You Will Wish You Watched This Before You Started Using Social Media | The Twisted Truth

This might be one of the most important videos I've edited in 2018. After everything that has been going on with the privacy crisis and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg going to Washington to speak with members of Congress, I felt that this video was timely. I think social media can be good but we must be careful with how we use it.

I made this video with the intention to help others in a motivational/inspirational form. The clips and music I have used I do not own in most cases. My understanding is that it is in correlation to Fair Right Use, however, given that it is open to interpretation if any owners of the content clips would like me to remove the video I have no problem and will do as fast as possible. please Email - Navidbakhsayesh@gmail.com - if you have any concerns at.
These videos are transformative in a positive sense, I take clips from various sources to help create an atmospheric feeling that will help people in different situations in their life. Be it overcoming hard challenges, giving them more fuel in various sporting scenes or act as hope for those who need to hear encouraging words.
I also do not wish to use the heart of any piece of the work that would perhaps decrease the market value of the original content, if anything I hope to promote the content so that people can reach out and subsequently increase the market value. These videos are to educate people in an entertaining fashion. Given these are very short videos the short parts I use them to act as a catalyst to further reading.

  • Hey everyone, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found some insight in some of the destructive behaviours that can be developed with excessive social media use. This was interesting for myself and my team to understand and learn more about. I will say a couple of things. I really don't condone the hurtful things being said about Mark Zuckerberg's appearance, I know the thumbnail overdramatises the video. Many people are saying quite a lot of unsettling things and I get it you are like "he is rich, who cares", but that's not the point, bullying is bullying and saying hurtful things is bad. I hope you can see where I'm coming from. Doesn't matter if they are a billionaire or some outcast from some part of the world. This is not what we are about. It's important to be critical of big companies and it's important to be fair and objective in your analysis. I don't think Mark is a bad person or Facebook in general are bad or even social media but as Chamath says in the video, "if you feed the beast the beast will eat you." This is the most important point of the video. I encourage you all to take a more nuanced approach to the video and not to view it has a pure condemnation, how we grow as a society and as people is to understand and use empathy. For me the video serves as a cautionary tale as to what can happen when you go on autopilot mode and what can happen is that your time and attention is controlled by others. This isn't just about social media it is about anything in life. Anyways, be kind. Be fair and objective. Speak your mind but respectfully, if you hate social media say it, if you love it say it. Share why you think so or don't. The most important thing is that we engage in a dialogue together. With love, Nav

    • Yes. We are all now part of the 'attention economy'. What to do? Feel more fear and create more enemies? More likes for hating those we perceive to be controlling us? Not a solution. Talk it over with others...debate but don't despair. Dare to be different: switch off your phone when you can...explain your actions to others...value the quiet undisturbed mind. It is the basis for personal peace and social harmony.

    • I liked being able to be in contact with friends and family I haven't seen or talked to in years, but if you share content not to their liking even if it is true, Facebook and Twitter will tag it as false content. I deleted my Twitter and only use Facebook to check on family and friends now. And I rarely get on there. Its a waste of time. I mostly use my phone as a phone and at times watch videos if I'm bored. I truly agree with what you said in this video. I'm just sorry so many kids are bullied and commit suicide over social media. Its really sad!

      @jerri44@jerri443 жыл бұрын
    • I would usually agree with your point about ad hominem comments about Mark Zuckerberg, however, when you consider all that he can do to us and all we can do to him it is the equivalent of being run over by a bus and the victim scratching the chrome off the bumper. He can addict our children and younger generations to Facebook causing immeasurable damage to society, ban political, social and individual pages that he and his employees dislike, influence elections and put pressure on governments, harvest our data and sell us to the highest bidder and in the process become so rich that he can buy his own island. We can call him a few names. The fact that I think he has head shaped like an egg isn't going to keep me up at night!

    • @@burtingtune yep...hearing your sentiments, especially for the generations to come. Luckily some of us didn't grown up with " tech-social-media " Some of us grew up on donkey Kong hand games, playing in our front yard safely, talking on telephones and generally no devises except a tellavision:.so we are lucky we know how to switch these distractions, controlling mind-bending machines OFF. It is sad and bloody unfortunate, let's hope 🙏next generations will hopefully learn from parents who genuinely give their time and a ...hoot about their children. The people who I see in person deserve my full attention too, so I put my phone away. I keep in mind that my gadgets are my tools & I use my tools - my tools do NOT use me. Food for thought: If my "friends" won't call me and talk vs social media, then perhaps they aren't my "friends"... just sayin'. A phone call takes LESS time than scrolling on a screen anyway.

    • Not really. The flesh is weak, considering how difficult it is to manage emotions (which are what addiction and dependency is built upon), it is smarter and more efficient to simply remove the trigger, remove the root cause. Not MANAGE those emotions, we're not robots - we're humans. We're built to think smart, not FEEL smart. Being self-aware is key, but true self-awareness will show you your flaws and tell you to move away from the trigger rather than depend on hopeful thinking. There's a reason why Monks don't entertain certain things. They know this.

While it is great to get to know people from other parts of the USA and the world, it should never come at the expense of face to face communication with people in our local neighborhoods and communities.

    • Not only that but nowadays people don’t even use social media to virtually communicate anymore, it’s more about mindless scrolling which ironically transforms us into the opposite of “social” and makes us cluelessly isolated into our own rooms. And it’s quite sad because considering that even if you try to quit, it’s not like your friends or your family will too, and you will have to helplessly watch them consume this messed up algorithm in exchange of their attention and neurons. As a teenager there is no way you won’t lose a big fraction of your friends and have the reputation of the “weird kid” in the school you are in. But nevertheless you should put your mental health first and search for the people who are also conscious, even if they are not around you right now.

    • The major problem with traditional social media (i. e. fb, Twitter instagram, etc), is that most people develop a virtual image that seems to be perfect, and many others compare themselves to that image, making them feel that their life is miserable or that they haven't accomplished anything, the social media algorithms make people to see all the time people with apparent wonderful lives, and the latest problem is, because politics have become a major topic in the latest years (specially with certain disease), a lot of people that you have in your contacts (friends, family, etc) will insult you if you share something opposed to their opinion, also most of the social media will keep censoring one side, so, it will seem that the majority of people have certain sentiment and will demoralize anyone that thinks different even more; it's a bunch of problems, that's why there are many mentally ill people nowadays.

Women have this "plenty of fish" mentality, so when they see a profile that doesn't have pics of a hot guy or if the profile doesn't fill out their shopping list...they move on because, there's hundreds of other profiles to browse through. Online dating is something else I quit doing, because my greetings being constantly ignored was just making my depression even worse and making me feel I wasn't worth anything to anyone. 14 years worth of off and on use of date sites has almost destroyed my hope for ever finding romantic love again.

Lol I never went back to recover it anyway. And I remember it is very complex to find the way to delete it because I searched at many sections in my previous fb account but still couldn't find it, so I googled and went to a link that brought me to there. I did this like... 2 or 3 years ago because I don't need it at all. News feed rarely helpful in any way and I don't care if my friends drink milk for their breakfast (yes literally, some friends posted that). I remember the first thing I woke up scrolling for news feed in fb even though I knew it will never bring any useful information to me. I don't know why, it's just the things my housemates always did and I followed it. When they got something trivial they would share it with everyone as if they have found treasures.... Wake up, lie on the bed scrolling for an hour or 2, scrolling whole day, scrolling when having meals and another scrolling session for an hour or two before bed. Best way to demolish your life when you couldn't control your temptation.

    • @@imy5279 That's not an example of addiction. It's simply being without a functional tool, when you actually needed it. If you were on the highway the anxiety would undoubtedly be greater since you could potentially drive farther distances & find yourself farther out of your way than you intended. If you were on a schedule, the problem of not knowing where to go would heighten that anxiety, understandably. GPS is not always reliable. *Suggestion:* Think what you would have done to prepare to get there _before GPS was a thing_ & do that as a backup. Anxiety & full on panic is typically rooted in unpreparedness, which heightens our fear, depending on the circumstances & the person's ability to handle stress of the unknowns. Also, it would be a good idea to learn the phone numbers of 3 of the closest people to you (if you don't already know them). It's important info to have in an emergency when you don't have access to your contacts. Be prepared. Just a thought

How many people can say they couldn't be the person they should be because they were left behind and ignored because of the problems of our Society? i can defo say that... I've had zero support with anything even back in my school days in the 2000s because even they couldn't give a damn and only want to make money... and i tried college too now everybody in the entire world are concedended, kept from progressing and treated as dangerous even when not all of us are SO addicted to Social Media :\ which means they judge and assume about everybody... but all i felt is that none of them wanted to be happy for me and i felt SO unwelcome then even the staff started rumors about me cos they knew what they did, and other students were full on Toxic because of Social Media they were incapable of being able to Socialize properly in any manner and just wouldn't quit trying to start drama, then i got blamed for being a little behind even when they kept taking a long time to do things on purpose, i just can't... which means even when you quit Social Media you could quit every single account you'll still get dragged into that behavior in real life, How is this real life? LOL i've no idea how it got here except The Government do not care about releasing dangerous things into the public when they should, nothing is thought about and now i really DO feel like an experiment.

  • Deleted all social media 7 years ago and since then I find myself having more time to do things around the house, more time spent with my kids, less drama, less division amongst family and friends. You truly realize how bad it is when you get rid of it and try and go to a social event and have a conversation and everyone is staring at their phones and your just sitting there watching them all and they have no idea.

  • i deleted social media in 2022 and that year was so fun and my mindset was so different but i downloaded instagram back and then soon twitter and then facebook, etc and i deadass don’t know why but i started feeling super insecure all of a sudden, my anxiety was worse, and my confidence was LOWWW 😭. i deleted it again in the beginning of the month and been watching positive/knowledgeable youtube videos, meditating, listen to only reggae and life feels way better and i don’t plan on downloading it again.
