Atomic Monster and Blumhouse, the producers of M3GAN, high dive into the deep end of horror with the new supernatural thriller, Night Swim.
Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscar® nominee Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle, this fall’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren, Fear the Walking Dead).
Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.
Night Swim is written and directed by Bryce McGuire (writer of the upcoming film Baghead) and is produced by James Wan, the filmmaker behind the Saw, Insidious and The Conjuring franchises, and Jason Blum, the producer of the Halloween films, The Black Phone and The Invisible Man. The film is executive produced by Michael Clear and Judson Scott for Wan’s Atomic Monster and by Ryan Turek for Blum’s Blumhouse.

  • I highly recommend all of you to watch the short film version (Night Swim) by the same directors, Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire. They used many refraction of waters to give unsettling and subtle scares. So glad James Wan came on board to make it into a feature film. Similarly to Lights Out directed by David Sandberg, I really hope the film makes a profit so I can see more original horror from these directors.

  • As a kid, swimming at night in the pool was actually creepy. Only because it was the closest thing to swimming in the ocean, and I was thinking about sharks. 😂

    • For me, it didn't have to be swimming at night. The relative with the pool, had porpoises painted on the bottom of the deep end. To me, they were sharks. Needless to say, the shallow end was my friend!

  • I have always found water to be oddly soothing and relaxing. I’ve always enjoyed swimming in the pool and the glow of the lights at night. Growing up in FL my only fears of the pool at night were gators and snakes and you always checked before you went in. This movie turns that on its toes. I’ve never thought to be afraid until now!

    • ​@agent2ez Actually, it's not. I've had it for years, and now I'm 25 and only found out in my last semester of college this year. The same with megalohydrothalassophobia. Didn't know the word. I honestly thought I was insane because so many people around me growing up loved swimming. Now more and more people are coming out and saying they found out they have it too. So, it's not really common knowledge. At least at a young age. Just interesting to know and I honestly feel like more people should know about it.

  • There's something chilling about the deep end of the pool, a little like thalassophobia but not as extreme. I remember looking down at the 10 feet deep section as a kid and it felt like I could "fall" from a great height. Watching this trailer recreated the same feeling. Looking forward to seeing this.

    • "Tale of the Dead Man's Float", and yeah, my mind immediately went there too. With that said, it looks like the filmmakers are doing more here than YTV and Nickelodeon did with that episode 30 some odd years ago, with some clear inspiration taken from The Amityville Horror, and some visuals and themes from Lucio Fulci's more supernatural films and John Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy (especially Prince of Darkness). At the very least, it looks like it's going to be more psychological than slasher in the horror department, which I'm all for.
