Lions Eat Buffalo While it Still Calls for Help
Lionesses generally don’t hunt large buffalo alone, but this ambitious female took on a buffalo one on one and came out victorious. After the hard work was done, the male then took over... However, this lioness obviously took some lessons from wild dogs, which are known to eat their prey alive!
BOOK YOUR TRIP TO KRUGER: bit.ly/BookatKruger
This brutal sighting was captured by 52-year-old General Manager at Jock Safari Lodge, Louis Strauss, at the Jock Concession close to the H3/S113 in Kruger National Park while out on a drive.
Send in your wildlife video here, and earn money: www.latestsightings.com/partn...
Louis tells LatestSightings.com the story: “Early morning, I had I heard a bit of a buffalo commotion from out in the bush. I climbed onto a nearby rocky outcrop and scanned the vicinity. Around 2km away I then got visual of a herd of buffaloes running, while a few of the big bulls turning around, so I knew a chase was on!”
“I know there are lions in the area, so with the distress calls, it surely must have been a pride of lions chasing the herd.”
“As I got to the scene, I spotted a lioness in the reeds. The lioness’s sisters all have cubs at the moment which is why they are all hunting individually. I was really excited, as even after working in the Kruger for 12 years, a lioness successfully catching a buffalo on her own is not a common sighting.”
“I immediately called the sighting in on the radio so the other rangers could bring their guests to see the action. The rangers know that when I say “Shova”, it means “get a move on” and that the sighting is good, so they all responded extremely quickly!”
“In the end, just before the lioness could get a proper feed, a male lion took the buffalo from her and spent the day feeding. But, in the late evening, 3 lionesses then fed on the buffalo. The next day, at night, the dominant males of the area chased the first, Mpondo Male lion, from the buffalo and while that was happening, hyenas took over and finished off the buffalo to the bone.”

The buffalo was already a goner, no point in wasting precious energy to save him.
We will always remember your sacrifice Billy!
Something tells me he fell down the steep drop off and injured his back legs. There’s just no way a lone lioness brought this big boy down like that.
good point..
Anything can happen in the wild. It may well be that it’s that one in a thousand moments when such fits of strength occurs. I wouldn’t rule it out completely.
Yes it's probably injured
Yeah, that lioness was just at the right place at the right time!
O' yes, most definitely, Something was amidst.
The buffalo was like "yeah your fucked. Sorry man gotta go!"
Let's say that watching a single lion taking down a grown up buffalo makes me think the beast already was debilitated for some reason. That attack couldn't be successful without a packmate's support.Albeit being a brave female she couldn't stand a chance in a one on one challenge with a buffalo in good shape. That's why I assume that beast wasn't going to survive in the wild for long.
the other bufflo is that type of friend who is always like " i got your back " but never actually help

Actually, the lion is the one who got his back

Lion fans in every Hyena video : Lions are better because they kill the prey before eating Lions in this video : I'm about to do what's called a pro-gamer move
It's ridiculous isn't it?! Far better to just start eating than waste energy killing it first if there's no hope of it ever getting back up. Hyenas/dogs also lack the claws to grasp prey before applying a throat bite so people should blame God/nature/evolution etc. if they don't like the killing methods and don't blame the animals.
This is exactly what I've been trying to tell these people for ages!
Pro-gamer move? That makes no sense.
Yeh lions have been known to eat their prey alive if there is no point in killing it. I saw one video where they ate a baby elephant in shock without killing it first
That buffalo was a goner. Looked like its hindlimbs were broken or it was really sick. The lion pride appeared in need of a good meal as well. The buffalo will feed them well.
or in the process of giving birth...
It looked as though it either fell off the cliffside or the male lion broke its spine but got ran off by the others.
Its a bull and I think its an old sick one incapable of even getting up, otherwise no way a single lioness is going to kill a bull, a male lion could but not a lioness.
@kąlsjzj Maybe an old bull or an injure bull maybe not a bull in his prime.

The buffalo must have felt really doomed having to witness itself being eaten by the lioness..

It’s wonderful that y’all continue to post all of the myriad ways wildlife interacts and create a record of the reality of nature. Even if some of them are hard to watch and certainly never featured on Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.
I don’t mind watching man bow hunt lions. They are very brave men that earn a great trophy.
I was somewhat surprised by this. I've seen many videos in which lions and tigers clamp down hard on their prey, choking them out in their mighty jaws prior to feasting. I had thought that devouring live critters was the purview of wild dogs, hyenas, etc. 🤔😕
The title should be "Lions eat buffalo while help left"
The other buffalo probably thought “See you on the other side, brother, peace out.”
Lion fanboys: Lions are noble they kill first before eat unlike wild dogs or hyenas. The lioness: nom nom nom nom...
This is why tigers are best. Normally they hunt alone and they go for the kill ie. the throat and finish the animal off
Buffalo 1: "HELP!!!" Buffalo 2: "What's going on here?" Lioness: "Oh nothing just trying to eat your relative" Buffalo 2: "Well... can you keep the noise down we're trying to graze in peace" Lioness: "Okay boss"
There are many many hundreds of thousands of buffalos but merely a few thousand lions. This means the realistic probability of getting eaten by a lion for any buffalo is extremely low.
I am impressed by Buffalo with how they try to help each other

True it’s actually funny if u think about, the same animals they cry about would eat or kill them in a split second in the wild if they we’re hungry or territorial. I don't think so, it's clear that Buffalo is dying, the herd can't just stop and protect it because it can't move it will die eventually, you all need to understand that herbivores aren't the most power efficient creatures they need to eat most of the time, so it make sense that they won't waste time protecting a diseased member nor an injured one.

The buffalo was injured and can't walk. So other buffallo were helpless. Any creature born is bound to die. So nothing bad to feel about it. It's nature in its own form. This is not injustice so no need to feel bad about it. Only thing to be remembered is fight injustice (especially for humans)the body is to vanish, but why do we care of body so much is beyond my understanding I need courage and fighting instinct to live and let live
Most have a bigger issue with the horrific way the poor buffalo had to go
Its about the suffering
Why do they always bite right at the back end on the spine? I’m guessing it was injured and couldn’t walk.
Is this an injured Buffalo? I’m surprised one lioness can keep it down that easily
agree with you. Only one lioness can't bring down such a big Buffalo. On the begin of the video it was down on the ground and not able to stand up and to break through the herd. The weight of one lioness is to low to keep it down, when the Buffalo would be in healthy uninjured condition.
That buffalo was already injured. When the Lion 1st came to it , he couldn't even stand up. Absolutely raw mother nature. But if the buffalo couldnt get up , his fate was sealed !!

That's the thing that sucks about living in the wild. If you fall ill or get injured. You either die because you're easy prey and it's not deemed the effort to save you, or you can't hunt causing you to starve to death.
Change the animal to Hyenas doing this and the comments section wouldn’t be so nice, crazy how it’s ok when Lions do it
