A buffalo mother and calf who somehow managed to stray away from the protection of the herd was ambushed by the oldikidiki pride.

@@pairrynwatson4229lions death is always very tragic also. Safety comes in numbers for the cattle and for whatever reason these two left the safety of the herd. It cost the two their lives. As harsh as it looks the life cycle is important for all living things. Lions live and die in extreme conditions. This meal was harvested for survival and in no way shape or form was it extra food.

I had to turn it off because, like you, I know this is nature but I feel so badly for the mother trying to protect her young, innocent offspring. Makes me cry.

The birthing Cows have to move away from the herd in order to give birth. Quite often they get lost or make poor decisions just afterwards

Buffalo usualy leave the herd when they are going to give birth. While it doesn't look like it, it's actualy safer for the calf to be born away from the herd
The land is flat, but the grass is long. And matches the lions' colour, perfect for camouflage. Plus, lions know how (and where) to crouch very low and hide, patiently waiting for unsuspecting prey.

I think its mainly to draw as little attention to themselves as possible, big herd draws a lot of eyes, you’ll see it in domestic cattle as well, they’re go off in the pasture to give birth

Yes if she had abandoned the calf she could have escaped in the beginning. But yeah once the 5 lionesses came there was no chance in hell she was getting away.

@@pairrynwatson4229 She would not have abandoned the calf at the get go, maternal instinct was too strong, of course the lions knew about that and laid the ambush. If she would have left the calf and ran away the moment she saw the first lioness there is a chance she could have escaped but obviously she was not going to do that and the lions knew that too.

Almost all the credit goes to the lioness that bit the bulls mouth.. notice how the bull tosses her around over and over again and the lioness won’t let go.. I think the bullmight have escaped if it wasn’t for this lioness
It’s a buffalo cow. It’s not a bull. Bulls are more difficult for lionesses to kill but less difficult for males to kill than.

calves that size simply dont survive even 1 bite from a decent size lion their bones are so soft comparatively they simply crumble under the sheer psi of a lion bite 1 bite near the skull or neck or even the spine and that lion can feel/hear the damage its done and they simply walked off and focused the mother

@lesroy4902 I get that it's just you see them quickly bring it down, but buffalo calves are much more resilient than that. But they quickly abandoned it and went after the mother, and then the video ends without seeing the calf again.

No, the lions need to survive and feed their cubs, it is not our place to interfere with nature. Unless an animal is caught in a trap or something caused by humans and a veterinarian is nearby.
