If I had a nickel for every time Noesen scored a game-winning goal for the Hurricanes in round one, game one of the playoffs against the Islanders, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice

I watched him for years as a Caps fan. He's the only player in the NHL whose game has a sense of humor. He's got a whole highlight reel of goals that are basically punchlines to a joke he was telling as he skated end to end. He's sneaky, and he'll try wild stuff that other players wouldn't.

Kuznetsov's transformation with the Carolina Hurricanes is impressive to witness. While the Islanders made it to the playoffs, they'll need better luck next year. Predicting this round, it seems the Hurricanes will likely clinch victory in five or six games.

Carolina was cleanly struggling for the first two periods. They stole game 1, I hope they win the series but Islanders look good too.

Andersen is the man. One of the best playoff goalies out there.
An entertaining if not the best technical game defensively for the Canes, but hey they can work on that! More important is to get the momentum swing rocking in your favour. Freddie looked so strong in net, I bet he got in the heads of a few Islanders.

The set play that led up to the EN goal was beautiful. Normally, I'm not hockey-smart enough to notice these things in real-time. But Drury out-muscled the Islander for the faceoff win. At the same time, Pesce has already gone into the corner to pick up the puck. Necas was already making his way up the boards to pick up the Pesce's clearing attempt. Then Necas simply outworked Dobson for the EN. Absolute perfection.

The Islanders played a great game against a far better team until the last 2 mins of the contest. The biggest issue was not finding the back of the net when they had numerous great looks that they could have scored on throughout the game. The next biggest problem was the faceoff circle. The Islanders were OWNED there and couldn't find a way to break though. They have to do better in both areas if they want to be relevant in these playoffs. The Canes don't give you much to begin with so you have to grab your oppurtunities or go back to the Island for the summer.
Great goaltending from both teams, Carolina's was just better tonight. LGI

Carolina’s fans seem so calm and lame for it being a playoff game. Couldn’t believe the lack of reaction when Freddie made that sprawling stretched out save on the ground.

canes caught a huge break tonight because they were not nearly good enough. expect a much different effort monday night. if they drop that game then suddenly they’ll be staring at a 1-1 series where they could easily be down 2-0 and knowing that they’ve likely been outplayed to that point in the series. need a motivated effort in G2. credit to the isles though for making it tough and really forcing their will and style on this game. we’ll see if it was a sign of things to come or a missed opportunity that they didn’t capitalize and steal game one on the road.

Canes were lucky this game. Islanders out played them in the 2nd and 3rd periods, missed 3 wide open shots.

Canes were far better in the third period…. Isles outplayed the canes in half of the first period and the whole second period but you’re smoking something strong if you thought the isles were better in the third 😂

@@jcsandstorm919 Disagree, the Islanders had better chances then the Canes in the third by far, puck possession was about even, but the Isles generated better scoring chances. This could have easily been 4-2 or 5-2 Islander victory. And trust me, I absolutely detest the Islanders as only a Rangers fan can growing up in the late 70's early 80's.
