I've made it my mission to not only find a 1968- 1972 Chevy Nova but also to restore it top to bottom. Can I find this car? I don't think I could ever had predicted the crazy journey this quest would take me on: abandoned car lots, cars left in the woods for half a century, the ups and down... the madness. Join us now on this crazy journey to see what happens!
Do you know where this car is? Go to our website and let us know.

    • @@SubdivisionAuto Just curious to names... and well, so we never met nor all that.... but Morgan is a right handy name for a girl or a boy. I was named after my great grand mother., I kinda liked Morgan Fairchild... real easy on a mans eyes and well it sure did help to popularize the name. Good strong name and got me through the service... just mentioning is all/LOL

    • @Morgan Adair well Morgan it's funny you say so because the first one I knew right away (Lex) because I always liked that name and my wife liked it too. But for this child (we don't know if it's a boy or girl) and we don't have any names picked out yet. Been so busy with life. Quite the opposite of being locked down during covid with nothing to do. Morgan is a cool name for sure.

    • Morgan I hope you been well. Comments like yours motivated me to turn up the intensity and this search and find this car. Well since mid February I have been looking hard. We saw a lot of vehicles and to date I can honestly say I have seen over 50 cars (Mostly online but I filmed the interesting local ones). Anyways I am happy to say we have found our car. Part 3 of the search is now up. You told me you are in poor health and for me to get serious and find it... well sir mission accomplished. Hope you check it out let me know what you think. Thanks for the support.

  • Yes, would love to see online build. Now for the car, you should go with what your heart tells you. Your family will support you as long as they know that is the car you really wanted. Don't get a car that someone else loves, Remember, your dream, your build, your car. Your family will support. Your car will show up, be patient. Hope this helps and happy hunting.

    • Great advice Tony. I was honestly ready to do go for something different by the end of filming this. It had been 6 months of "no good". But after seeing all the comments, ones like yours, it keeps me on track. Going to be patient, it will come... I got time. If you check out the 85 Ford CL9000 ep on this channel it took Randy a full year to find his "dream truck".... but it also took me 12 years to restore it! But that smile he drives around with tells the story. Thank you Happy new year!

Looking back at this it was really neat to capture all these moments.. this journey would really end up shaping what life is like right now. Never would I have thought we would make 6 episodes of the search but that's what happened so if you are curious there is much more to the story. Personally I'm more into my bikes, not been able to ride for a while due to a broken shoulder but you had me hooked with the whole production and story, kept it interesting and the personal touches, showing what it means to you, made me feel like I'm part of the journey also. This isn't a regular car show and about where it will end, it's about the journey and all the things you/and the viewers learn along the way. Looking forward to seeing Your own Nova on the channel, let's get it bro!

But you just never know if its actually going to translate so seeing this comment makes me really happy. No it's not like any car show because I dont want to lie to people and pretend to be an expert, Ill put myself out there and just keep it honest and hopefully people will learn from my mistakes. Heck people like yourself set my straight, I am no longer even considering another car, just waiting for the perfect nova. I didnt include the other dozen or so fails (they just weren't interesting enough) so by the end I really thought the Nova was not going to happen. So at the moment still no car but yes man I will not give up and I will find this car! Thanks for this again means a hell of a lot!

Right now I have a rat rod, a 76 Chevy Camaro, 82 Honda CB450 cafe racer motorcycle, and my current project a 81 Ford F100 step side pickup. My dad had a 75 Nova back in the day beautiful car. I have been blessed and have had a lot cars and each one gave me joy. Keep looking for your Nova when you see it you will know it’s the one. People are surprised when I tell them how old I am I think classic cars are the fountain of youth.

  • This particular video came up on my feed, and I quite enjoyed it, more for the story you tell, than the car itself honestly. I liked your comments in the end, regarding your age getting in the way later on, so I'm here now with the grey hair, and was looking at '67 Chevy II Nova's, as I had one in my youth, and would love to find another, but I don't have the tools or space to do it myself, so I realize I'll have to buy it already restored, at least to some extent. I'm not looking for an all matching numbers car like my old '67 Chevy II with the 327 4 speed, but one with these very similar options, albeit an SS would grab my attention, which my car was not. As you probably know, restoration takes time...alot of time, patience and $$ in the end, but something you can be very proud of. So, it's nice to see you wait, until you find the car that grabs you and says 'take me'! I hope one day I find the Nova I want, and that you too find yours, so I've subscribed, and will check in occasionally to see if/when you find yours, and updates on any restorations you get done. Once done, keep the car for the long term, as it will only go up in value price wise, but as you get older, you'll thank yourself, as I'm sure your son and any future children will. Best of luck, from a Canadian on the west coast! On edit- I see you did find one...so I'm off to check that video out.

It certainly gave me perspective of what shape the remaining cars are and how hard it's to find them. In terms of your own goal I would like to see you find a Chevy II. Just have to wait for the right one. Lots of good solid cars in the west coast I know youl find one. Thanks for the support lots of videos to come...

  • I would definitely watch this series. I have been a nova fan since i got my first car, a 1978 nova with a 4 speed. I have also had a 1972 nova that I did complete floor pans and trunk floor replacement. I have done autobody and paint for 30 years and the best advice i can give you is that you may want to widen your search to warmer climate novas. The money you will save with a low rust nova will more than pay for the transportation cost. Yes 10k is way too much for that ss nova. From what i understand there is no way to tell if a 68-72 nova is a true ss without original paperwork. So be sure to keep that in mind when you see an (SS Nova). Good Luck and i will keep my eyes open for the right nova for you.

  • I thought I'd pause about halfway and tell you a life lesson I learned from reading Richard Petty's autobiography over 40 years ago. RP was relating his experience on the track and realizing when encountering a critical situation knowing when to do nothing at all is the best knowledge you could have. I took that statement regarding racing as one that could be applied to any situation in life. Often we may find the best course of action is not to turn left or right, stop or go, but rather stay the course until the path ahead is clear and then proceed to your best destination. Like the Jeep Series from way back when we first "met" so to speak, I will be catching up on this all at once. LOL Great to be here with you again Max! PS. I was right about the cinematography! 😄 ...and editing, etc. etc. etc. So... looking forward to this.

    • Johnny.. thank you for the kind words as always, it's encouraging and made my day. In terms of Richard Petty... being a old school Nascar fan I love the advice! (I used to watch the 60s & 70s nascar as a kid when they would re-play them along with the regular season in the late 90s during the Earnhart era). But yes that advice is absolute gold. I have been living by that I think I mention it in the video as the rush song says "If you choose not to decide you still have made a choice". Great advice Johnny I have to keep it in mind I sometimes forget and get burned... THanks for watching the series this will be a little more regular than the Jeep series and will last several years.

That was 1992... it use to be this other kid from high schools car. He was a bully I remember. I had a 71 Chevelle that I was working on and I put a 454 in it. I raced the bull in the Nova back then and beat him... Long story short I bought the car from a different kid like I said and rebuild the 454 in to a 468 and that now rest inside my Nova. I took the 350/350 out of the Nova and put it in to the Chevelle and sold it. Then the car sat from 2002 till A few months ago. • great video. the hunt is part of the dream. but. sometimes they fall into your lap. I am a huge Monte carlo freak. I have restored an 86 SS and currently working on an 88 SS. I got an email from a friend who knew I was looking for a t-top car and he knew where one was but knew little about it. I travelled 20 minutes from my home to a storage lot in Carp. Sitting there in the lot was a forlorn looking 87 ss t-top that turned out to be my bucket car....it was an aero coupe. 1 of 6052 made. keep searching and you will find the car for you. just stay away from the cars sitting up to the rockers in a field. nothing good will come from them!! Can't wait for the next episode

  • Hey Ken here, I find your story very real. I looked for a long time to find something that was restorable. I will pass on the advice I learned watching a u tube video. He said buy a car as complete as possible with in your budget. And man was he right. These parts are very hard to find, and if you do find them you better have a big check book. Well good luck! It's just another adventure, make it fun, when it becomes work it won't be worth doing. I enjoy putting some sweat in to making an old car come back to life.

    • Wise words Ken. Since I started this I had to adjust my expectations and requirements. The main was not accepting a car that someone had previously "abused"... trying to find a car as original and complete as possible. And they have been popping up believe it or not. 8 Months into this thing and I can honestly say NOW things are starting to get interesting. Because we waited the "unadvertised" cars are starting to appear and it's like night and day. I'm still filming everything that's happening. Next episode comes out next week . • When I was a teen in the mid 80's the "Bubble Nova" as the 68-74 Nova's were called here in the U.S., atleast in the Midwest was my dream car. I just turned 50 I litterally just stumbled upon by accident and bought a 1970 Nova with a 250 Inline six. I'm going to rebuild it and keep the 250 and just make it a daily driver/weekend cruise-in car, I'm going to make it look and run well but I'm not going to sink a bunch of money into it or do an LS swap. I just want a nice little cruiser to have have fun with. Good luck finding yours.

    • Yeah Ive been looking into cars in the state since posting it. Just so many more options and way lower prices. Yes it would be amazing to bring a car like that green nova, or the ventura back from the dead, but there is more rust than metal left on those. I have to be realistic and look for something more solid. I think field finds are out, but it was cool to learn that lesson the hard way... feel like thats going to be a common theme on the show. • If you want to protect this car and be definitively efficient against rust , you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and pour old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

  • I have restored a few cars in my day and I would advise you to buy a mostly solid rust free southern car to get away from too much rust. I quickly learned that getting a better car to start saved a lot of time, frustration and money. Getting a virgin car that has not had body work done is a prefered as you won't have a bunch of hidden surprises.Prices people ask for a lot of these cars now is stupid crazy , that one for $10K was a joke. Back in 1972 I owned a 1970 Nova SS with the 396/375HP and 4 speed . It was just a bench seat with dog dish caps and traction bars , that thing was crazy fast. Years later I found a solid 1969 2 Dr with a 6 cyl 3 speed auto. that was an excellent driver and family car. I put new 1/4 panels and some other body work into it and painted it a metalic gun metal grey with a red pin stripe.....damn it looked great as it had the original black interior which was in excellent shape. You might look out west too SK. and AB will have more solid cars. I bought a 1961 Chev. Convertable out of SK that was very solid. Good luck with your search , look outside the box. 👍

I dont mind putting in the extra hours but at the same time all the extra time could be spent with family rather than on the grinder. Love your story the idea of having a car with 375hp must have been incredible. Cant get that raw experience with a modern car, they jsut arnt the same. • New subscriber here (going to be a long comment). Man you didn't find a car and I'm already hooked on the series lol. I'll just give you some of my input, I'm not a professional here but I'm 33 years old with 2 kids under the age of 5 and I'm restoring a 67 Chevelle with a ls swap. 1. Happy wife happy life, if you can find HER dream car that's always a plus. (that being said I promise if you get the nova, once its finished she will love it as much as a charger.) 2. Charger 69' very hard to find/parts are more expensive/not as many parts available... Also if you're dead set on doing the LS swap you will be doing a lot more custom fabrication work. 3. Stick with your gut (IMO get that 1968-72 Nova you want, IT WILL SHOW UP.) I searched for a good year for a 67 Chevelle SS, I was getting frustrated by not finding one I started looking at all make and model classics. I almost bought an Oldsmobile 442 and my dad talked me out of it. A few months later I found a 67 Chevelle malibu someone dressed as an SS. It was posted online and I found it 20min after it was posted the guy already had 3 calls on it and about 10-20 messages. (You gotta be ready! and look all the time i showed up with cash and a trailer got a running and driving 67 chevelle project for 8k. he was asking 12k) 4. Your father in-law is right, you will know exactly when that car shows that it's the right one it will speak to you. (Good job on passing on the 10k SS.) 5. When it comes to the LS swap which you seem to be set on, that nova will be a lot easier to swap. ICT Billet makes basically everything you need for your swap solutions.

Also don't be so wrapped up in what car you build. Be open to a compromise with your wife on which car to get. In the end your building memories and emotions like the ones that pull your wife towards the Charger. Be patient. The right one will come along. It will almost choose you.

It's not my dream car but I would be very happy with one... just not sure I can do the engine the way I've been planning. I didnt include it in this video but someone contacted me with a barn containing a few 70 chargers that had been sitting for decades. • I’m looking for a 69-72 Nova in the Southeast US right and can definitely relate to your search. Be careful with the 68’s, they have a lot of parts that are slightly different than the 69-72 and hard to find and expensive. I seem to find a lot of in the dirt $2k cars here or restored cars for $15-20k hard to find those low end good base $6k Novas in those 69-72 range. I’ve also considered looking for other cars but I want to find and build the car I love, and I’m afraid I’ll miss that if I am not patient and find the car that speaks to me. Be patient.

    • Good to know I didnt know that about the 68. Sounds like a similar issue I had with Jeep cherokees. The 88-90 version parts were pretty bad and hard to find. It wasnt until 91 they became good and easier to find. Ill try to keep my eye on a 69-72 more for sure. Thansk for the advice your right about patience Ive almost jumped the gun too many times. Been running into a lot of "project cars" but theyre all half done... tempting but no story.

  • Heard any interesting point the other day. The cars that are in barns or in a bush are still there but that is another 10-20 years added on. They are almost all unrestoreable, and the parts on them are very hard to use. And the after market parts keep going up in price. Eventually all the cars will be restored and you won't have these after market places selling parts

    • James when this journey was going on there was a lot thrown at us and it became really difficult to figure out what's right and wrong. We filmed the Ventura scene then the video was up a few days later. Prior to this I had been on the since late July.. that includes nonstop checking classifieds, posting ads, contacting people I dont know, chasing leads... it was insane. Heck I only filmed the most interesting events but this was fulltime work buy the end. I can honestly say I enjoyed every second; however, the thing that it clouded was my judgment. There were so many instances I was ready to give up on the Nova and settle for something else. Seeing all the comments now and taking a step back reminds me why I started this in the first place. Yes there are Novas out there, and yes there is one with an awesome story in the exact condition im lookiing for. It's just going to take a while to find thats all. I just had to accept this and realize its not a face. So my heart says Nova + story. No project cars, even if its a great deal... (which is hard to say no to at this point trust me). Gilles was right and I have not seen a car yet and said "Thats the one". It just hasent happened yet. Turns out thanks to all the awesome comments we have confirmed that golden Nova was not a real SS and was a ripp off. Thank godness I said no.... Gotta stick to the Rush lyrics as I siad in the video "Choosing not to decide". Because its still a choice. Thanks for the comment sorry for the Novel

  • That buick is way better looking and way cooler in my opinion. Just make sure you get something with the least amount of rust. The car will find you. I have bought and sold hundreds of cars. Along the way I have learned don't force the sale. The thing with the LS swap is cool but you have to remember there is always someone else faster. If the car comes with a 350 or 327 I would just rebuild the engine with the best parts I can afford and make it a driver. Maybe even consider a four door or an old station wagon so the whole family can actually injoy it and be comfortable. If you are going to do cruises down here in the states your going to want Air-conditioning and an automatic transmission. Your kids are young and if this actually going to be something the whole family can injoy you're going to want them to be comfortable. There is no fun in cramming 2 kids in the back of a two door with all the stuff you will want to bring to car shows or long cruises.

  • You made the right decision to wait, because you didn’t find the right mix of price and desire. Was the 72 SS worth it? For $10k Canadian maybe, being a real SS car. However, you have to consider what it will take to restore it and what it might be worth down the road. I think your wife might be right though. I would buy a 68-70 Charger over the Nova. Why? That’s a car that will be a better investment over a Nova. I would look for a Charger and put the time and money and effort in it. You like the Dukes right? I think that’s your answer even though the initial buy in cost is a lot higher than a Nova. I would consider buying a decent running and driving Charger 500 and borrow the $ to get it. Forget about doing a ten year restoration on a heap. You can improve the Charger as time and money permit and enjoy it with your family and make memories with them. I did a full blown resto on a 71 Challenger R/T many years ago and paid someone to do a extensive body restoration including an acid dip. I know what I’m talking about from experience. I’m retired now and restoring a 73 Dodge street van. Putting a custom paint job on it. It’s going to take 3 years to finish it. It will be done next year. It’s not my first resto project. Good luck and hope you make the right choice for you and your family.

    • Turns out the yellow nova was not a real ss. Had several people who noticed things and pointed them out. Putting this video up I was worried I would get chewed out for not buying it... instead people all said it's not worth it. In terms of the charger I do think you're right it's just a selfish desire to do the nova. I was also careful with looking for chargers because people tend to get chewed out with ads for them on the net... everyone wants to find their general lee and i felt I was not worthy of such a legendary car. That said something did happen I didn't include in the video that could have swayed this a totally different way. Someone contacted me with a bank full of Cars, 2 chargers 70 and 71. He said all the cars been sitting since the 80s and 80s and were all Infested but all complete and original. Now he told me he doesn't want to sell them yet.... but he's considering it. I could tell he was attached to them but not ready to let go. But he's been thinking about it or he'd never contact me. If he actually let me see them it's possible I would do that because thats a hell of a story. Good luck on your 73 and happy new year!

  • Totally know how this guy is .I refer to the movie Christine how Arnie looked at that 58 fury an fell in love with it .that's the story u want. So buy what you can afford. That nova sounds like yur Christine . Go for that nova sounds sounds like the dream is there .stay away from that gold nova that guy is a clown . Look for a nova shell as long as it has good wiring start with shell nova you can add parts but the shell is what counts most . Don't pay more than 2500-3000 for it start with a goal price .don't be afraid to look in junkyards shell nova is a start .

    • Very good advice. Looking back now I feel I ever considered the 10k nova. It didnt have a story, guy was rushing trying to get rid of it, I felt zero connection to the car. Your 100% on this thanks again

    • @@SubdivisionAuto it's cause growing up I've been in yur shoes , I've had many cars I felt a connection to but only one stood out to me in school I had a tempest fake GTO. But loved that car, an I got a Chevelle with a 70 - it had wrong front clip , an a guy painted it with a brush so I got it cheap an had fun building it .

  • Look for a nova it’s the car you want pay a little more and get a good one not one that has been sitting in a field they are famous for rotten floors and rear frame sections built it your self and learn as you go and you will appreciate more when you finish good luck and happy hunting.

    • Yeah I think you are right as cool as it would be to drag one out of the woods the combination of the rust from sitting and the uni body (in this car especially) just writes them off. Seems you could easily push your arm through the sheetmetal on most "sitting" cars I have seen. Not saying I won't go see anymore "field" finds because its good fun but unlikely one of them will be "the one"... especially here in Canada. Thanks for the advice

    • Hi Willa that's is a very kind thing to offer me, I am sure it means a lot to you having a connection to your late father... I am sorry for your loss. I am quite moved you would offer that to me so I am sad to have to pass but we did find out car lately. So our search is now concluded but thank you again. Maybe check out the latest nova video to see it and let me know what you think. Wishing you all the best and good days ahead.

  • It must be hard to find decent cars to restore in Canada, because unlike here in the US, the entire country is essentially the rust belt----unless the car has been tucked away for 40-50 years, it's gonna be rusty

    • Yeah your 100% on that we have really extreme weather here: cold in the winter and super hot/humid in the summer. Heck a lot of people put their cars into garages but unless they are conditioned the humidity rusts them out regardless (Happened to my 1994 audi S4, went from no rust to covered in 2 years in a garage). So yes since this video has come out I've decided I will likely be crossing boarders to find this thing.

  • Keep this series and keep looking for the exact Nova model you want. I've been wanting a Gran Torino 1972 fastback for a long time. One day, life gave me the chance to buy exactly what I was looking for sleeping in a barn for decades. When something is on your mind strongly, it will eventually happen. This is how the universe works. I documented my discovery in this video: kzhead.info/sun/aZWEp62vqaSeg2g/bejne.html

    • Wow man see that's the exact story I'm after. Love to hear you found it. I've only been looking for half a year or so so I can't complain this can take a while. But since this video came out people set me straight and I'm not settling for anything less. Going to wait as long as it takes. Been filming part 2 of the search. Thanks for the encouragement and happy for yoy

    • The same thing happened to me. When I was a little boy, my dad always stopped at the dealership that his military service buddy ran. It was near their hometown and 80 miles away from our home. So the three or four times a year we visit the grandparents often we stopped and he would visit his buddy and I got to sit in the new cars ,pick up free promos, cars and brochures. One time ,when my dad was buying the 69 Kingswood wagon from his buddy ,I must’ve sat in a 69 impala convertible super sport for an hour. I had many dreams about that car. Built that model car kit never stopped thinking about those pontoon fenders…. Three days after our first child was born, I find a 69 SS droptop in the Atlanta journal newspaper(1984). My wife went with me with our newborn. Well, it was magical, and was like it was meant to be. I spent 13 years looking for the right parts. On a very small budget…. it needed a radiator support and fender amongst the other parts. 13 years going through junkyards and people parting 69 impalas out. A lot of love went into that car. 69. Impala parts weren’t as available as they are now. Had to sell it for economic reasons. Yeah I wish it was still in my garage. It had the original blue paint from the firewall back. No rust … and from one of my buddies sightings of it couple years ago still has the same paint… I sure hope that owner is enjoying it. Take your time … find a solid body/frame… best advice.. A survivor if possible…those little parts will eat your lunch. Keep your focus on what you really want… I was going for perfection.. I should’ve lowered my expectations a few notches and enjoyed the car.
