MAKING CURTAINS FOR THE ANTIQUE BED CROWN!
It's a busy time at Lalande as I create bed curtains out of vintage toile de jouy to add to the antique bed crown in my bedroom, Ian the Plasterer starts in the downstairs loo and Andie chooses frames for her beautiful watercolours of the chateau bedrooms. But we also have to deal with some sad news...

My uncle is a farmer and he raised pheasants. He also has peacocks that are free to roam at will after they are big enough. He built a large, walk in aviary that housed the birds until the chicks were big enough to defend themselves against the introduced predators we have here like weasles, stoats and hedgehogs (that eat the eggs). The aviary also had quail being raised in as well. May be you could build an aviary down by the chicken house because it would also protect any chicks from predators. The mama birds and the chicks would not need to be long in the aviary and then could live free.
This is a perfect idea! Selmar, save the chicks!!! Honor Petite-Pois s’il vous plaît! Sending all my love to Laland - Maxximo Morabito
Honestly, she is not equipped or hands on enough for the responsibility of animals. So many injured or killed on her property....
💐 Yes, I agree about an aviary. In my rural equestrian portion of Los Angeles, we have lots of 🦚 peacocks & predators. Most ppl set up a large aviary for the peacocks to stay in safely @ night 🌝. There are always risks with freedom & roaming, but they typically only allow the adults out during the day. For 🐔 chickens, it's not so free range. The great number of raptors (hawks, kites, falcons & owls) flying regularly overhead alone would deciminate them. Some ppl create moveable 4 sided cages that can plonk down over the top of them. It can be easily moved around to eat the grubs🐛 in the yard, but someone must still be outdoors to supervise them. 🐺Foxes, coyotes & mountain lions can find a way in those contraptions easily. 🐱Sad fact is that outdoor cats don't survive here long. 🐶Even leaving most dogs unattended outside during the day is not wise. 😱Most canines aren't smart enough to avoid confronting snakes, raccoons, skunks〰️let alone a truly serious predator. 🚨Small dogs need to stay near owners. My neighbor barely got there in time to save their Yorkie being carried off by a coyote in their backyard. 📍Fun Fact: Audubon Society has a link for 5 distinct owl🦉 calls in North America. We recently learned my neighbor has a couple of "screechy" barn owls atop his trees, while we have a bunch of "who-ing" Great Horned Owls on our side. 😉 Trust me, the former might be prettier, but the latter has a much more civilized greeting. 💌ps FrancoPhiler: That's a rather gross exaggeration. Have a heart. No use being evil toward LaLanders for this loss. They clearly want to give the birds their best life🎊. It's not nice being locked in a tiny enclosure 24/7 for sure. 🥺The peachick's ultimate sacrifice while heart-rending 💔 was not in vain. In the end, predators gotta eat too. 🔄Cycle of life. 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑👑 Her crown is lined with fabrics fine, to rival any royal. To place it where it does belong, the servants had to toil. They scrambled up to lofty spheres, to lift the golden dome. And screwed it to a sturdy wall, so it won‘t start to roam. Looking at it from below, with extreme delight. Only fabric from Jouy will see you through the night. I had a lot of fun writing this poem. 😄
🎊 Bravo! ✒️You penned a lovely tribute. 💫 It's quite fitting for our Princess Stephanie and her stunning golden antique bed 👑 crown with the beautiful two tone cranberry & white toile fabric. 😊Your clever words bring joy to all 🏰LaLanders who read them too! Well done👏. 🙏God bless you🕊️! 💚 Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
@@teresacarle294 😊Thank you.
Poor wee little chick. It’s life as it’s meant to be. It became too independent because it was an only chick. I think shooing them into the walled garden is a great idea with a shelter for them. Their mum won’t wander away from them. People will just have to be super careful to close the gates.
@@TheFrancoPhiler don’t be ridiculous. Baby chicks don’t always survive. They’re perfectly well cared for. I lost many chicks and even full grown chickens to a fox who would strike in broad daylight with me right in the yard. Hawks kill them. Cats kill them. You can’t prepare for a neighbors dog to savage your birds. My dog got attacked by the neighbor’s pit bull TWICE before they got evicted. That wasn’t my fault. It was theirs for not keeping the thing on a leash. Animals die when they’re in the world. Especially when you give them freedom to live natural lives. Don’t try and pull your bullshit with me. Obviously you know nothing about letting animals live the way animals are meant to live and are trying to find a way to turn people against Stephanie.
@@TheFrancoPhiler Unfortunately any type of fowl especially the young are easy pickings for predators. I have had coyotes chew through wire to get my chickens. Raccoons can open latches on the coop door if you don’t lock it. Hawks swoop down on free range chickens. Heck one of my large dogs even has killed a few chicks… he was walking by a hen with chicks, she became aggressive and attacked him and in his panic he stepped on a few. Where there is life there is death. It’s a fact of life. You do the best that you can do and hopefully learn from your mistakes.
@@rhondahoehne9143 Sure, but there's not even an attempt here to keep the animals she is responsible for safe. I'm saying if you can't be responsible, if you're not equipped for an agrarian life with animals and wildlife, don't involve animals who can't take care of themselves and rely on you for shelter and safety.
@@TheFrancoPhiler Yes, it is true you need to have everything in place before you get any type of livestock. It at least gives your animals a better chance at survival.
@@rhondahoehne9143 which they do not do
Phillip is SUCH a dear man!! What a treasure of a friend!
I could not live without a seam ripper! I think I’ve managed to hold onto mine for 30-40 yrs!
Yes it’s so so useful, I have inherited my Mums one now she’s no longer with us, mines green, hers pink.
Andy's water color paintings are just gorgeous.
The bed crown looks stunning.
Sooooo beautiful!
Selmar is an artist.
It is a real Princess bed. Welldone!
You are such a sweet lady. No wonder everyone loves helping you with your beautiful chateau I’m living vicariously through you! ♥️♥️
I do hope that Mummy and Percy are safe and sound.
And Scotman. ❤❤❤
I was thinking the same.
Yes, I was also wondering?
Aww so sorry dear Stephanie. I remember you mentioning you were worried about petit poi . He was free all of them are .
I love the fable about the miller, the son and his donkey. I wish everyone knew that story.
Andie's illustrations have a markedly whimsical and juvenile quality that remind me of Fritz Siebel's illustrations for Amelia Bedelia, a favorite from my childhood.
Graham ... very good observation
The bed curtains are perfect with the crown, can't wait to see it when you make the bedspread! It is sad about the pea chick but that is nature. I once watched a live Eagle cam for a season, from the mating, laying of eggs, and the fledging of the Eagles. It was quite an emotional experience and I soon came to realize that in the animal kingdom Mother Nature is the boss and we humans cannot control what happens.
It is so sad about the peachick. I was wondering if Mummy and Percy are going to make another video. I enjoyed their last one and I miss those two, we have not seen them for ages.
They have their own channel? What is it called?
@@ibosquez5238 No they didn't, they send it to Stephanie.
@@jpat7726 Ok
It’s beautiful Stephanie. Sorry about petit pois 😭
We have peacocks and they are allowed to roam, but when we have hens that have hatched chicks, we move them into a large wire covered enclosure for a few weeks. The hens tolerate it … it’s just for a short while. To get the hens to go into the enclosure easily you must work with them a few times a week for months by feeding them in there.
Responsible approach and stewardship.
Time for your mother and Percy to come back. Hope all safe.💟☮️
What a beautiful bed crown! Thank you so much once again for bringing such joy to my day! Isabelle and Percy - I am in Cape Town - I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
The bed crown and curtains turned out beautifully. So many wonderful things happening. My heart goes out to Siff, Thor and all at Lalande. I'll say a prayer for the safe return of the peachick but if the worst has happened then it is little Ian. So very sorry 💔😢🙏❤️🏰🦚
The bed crown and the curtains are stunning. The crown goes so well with bed. Amazing seeing them all together with the curtains done. Beautiful.
The finished bed crown with the toiles is spectacular. Fab work! So sorry to hear about Petit Pois…
We need a photo of Stephanie plumped up against cushions, under the couronne de lit, being served tea on a tray, wearing a tiara. :-)
Aww sorry about Petit pois poor thing, RIP little one . X I love to hand sew I do have a sewing machine but not a fancy stitch one just straight stitch. But most of my sewing I do by hand it's very soothing once you get into the vibe . Stephanie your crown looks lovely well done
The bed looks so beautiful, fit for a princess. I think you should wear one of your tiaras to bed. :)
I would display Andies art into each room it was painted from. How beautiful that would be.
Oh my goodness I remember that bathroom when you first moved in they're finally getting to it 🎀🙏
Is the toilet still lost in the mail?
My favorite sewing tool the "unpicker" I call it the " picker outer".
“Seam Ripper” here.
It was introduced to me as the 'quick unpick'
@@charlottecashmore84 That’s much more interesting than Seam Ripper.
It's the frog here ...because you "ribbit" out the seams.
Jodie Hebb That is adorable!
So sorry about Petite Pois! I support the free life of the birds though, and understand the grief! Every life that touches ours is so precious. Sending healing thoughts your way. Keeping busy can only help.
So sorry to hear about the peachick! I’m glad you were all there to cheer each other up.
Broken-hearted about the peachick. The bed crown is amazing and the bedspread, what luck! I always put these fateful quirks up to Henri.
Oh my goodness , the bed crown and curtains are absolutely superb.
When I work on a project during a period of grief the grief attaches to the project….the memory remains….
Interesting...I will have to ponder on that but it makes sense
I made a quilt when I was in depression and I think of recovering from that, when I look at it.
Oh Andie - the whimsy and beauty portrayed in your work is simply magic!
The bed curtains look SO BEAUTIFUL, Stephanie. The frames you chose for the toile were lovely, and the ones for all of Andie's beautiful water colors were perfect. Andie's reaction to you choosing to hang her art in the Grand Salon was so sweet. Her paintings definitely deserve to be placed in a place of prominence, where everyone who comes to visit can enjoy them. Well done, Andie!
So sad to hear about the dear little pea chick. Blessings and love 💛🙏🏻💛🙏🏻
How sad. Hope your Mom and Percy are safe here in South Africa, especially if they are in KZN. This country is up in flames 😭 So much loss around us all.
I wish they leave to go back to France ASAP
Prayers. That's so concerning...my goodness.
Bless u all in Southafrika 💝💝💝💝💝💝🇸🇪
Isabella spoke yesterday on Stephanie's PREMIERE that she & Percy had just arrived home from the shop as the insurgents had arrived where they had been but are safe, she stated.
@@MC-pq5cj I am in agreement, if it's safe for them to travel... God willing they return to the safety of the Chateau.
Bed crown is coming along beautifully. So sorry about the pea chick.😢😭
guard dog is a must
They travel to often Stephanie stated. It wouldn't be fair to the dog according to her. But it would be a great idea but i certainly understand Stephanie.
@@Tracy_R I understand as most dogs bond most closely with one person, but there are so many lovely people at the chateau that I am confident a Border Collie or an Espanguol Breton would be very happy there with many jobs to do. Working dogs need a job and could be happy hunkering down with many who will love them when their work is done.
@@kathrynschumann5254 yes, that is what Stephanie had stated when someone asked for her to get a dog when the rooster got a nibble from the neighbors dog.
@@Tracy_R Yes, I think all the loved animals at LaLande need a protector and someone who can train it. Im partial to the Brittany breed.
I like the name "unpicker" better than 'seam ripper', which we learned in Home Economics class. You're sew talented...(groan). I'd have been terrified cutting that fabric.
Stunning, just beautiful Crown and drapery ❤️ So sorry for your loss 💐
Stephanie, your bedroom is looking marvelous. I loved what you did with the curtains. Also thank you for adding the CLOSED CAPTION option on your blog. It really helps your hearing impaired loyal subscribers like me. 😍
Stupendous job Stephanie ⚜️
Steph, I would have done the same--not going to bed until both sides are done. It's absolutely gorgeous. Philip's taste and hands make the project so much more enjoyable, didn't they? Great job!!
Selmar needs to build a night time bird house for the birds.
A Rooster house in the garden is on the list to get them away from the Hens. The hens have a stone hen house and run in the garden. The peacocks can fly over the wall so they don't go into a shelter (where the wood and Jaguar are) unless they want to.
Been remarking at bedcrowns ever since. 👑
'Because they are free i cant keep them safe' ...:( I'm so sorry for your loss !!!
Your bed looks SO pretty, Stephanie. Huge well dones to you and Philip.
Oh poor petit petit pois. It is heartbreaking, baby birds are so vulnerable. I am so grateful to have Ian, Lillian and Vivian, they are very precious to me. Their beauty takes my breath away and their calling sounds delight me every day. Xx
Hopefully your Mom and Persey are doing well in South Africa.
So sorry to hear about the wee chick...:( ....so sad. On a happier note.....love the new bed valance....Beautiful and well done the two of you!!!
Philip is so kind and thoughtful 💙 Thanks for keeping it real and letting us know about the pea chick. Life isn't always about laughter. Sadness happens too. Thinking of you all as you process loosing the baby chick.😔. The curtains look lovely!!💗Exciting to see the bathroom progress!!
Aw, a day of tears and sorrows. Comforting to see Andies art, you could curl up and escape in her paintings💛
I would use a stripe or a check for the bedhead as a foil to the toile. xoxoxo
Always impressed by Philip's talent and devotion to you. He's a dear friend. Must say when I knew something sad had happened I thought of humans and pets and became quite nervous inside until hearing the poor little pea chick was missing. It was a good vlog with creative projects, my favorite. The mats and framing are beautiful. Andie is such a lovely part of the creative Lalande family.
It looks stunning, well done both of you! I’m addicted to your videos and just want to keep watching all of them. Thank you
I love your smily laughter
Beautiful painting
Circle of Life...we pray for that precious chick. Your bedroom is going to be a show stopper Stephanie ❤
How beautiful your bed crown and drapes are truly a bed canopy fit for a chateau 😍

Omg those water colors are magnificent!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
With freedom there is pain, but also joy, in life we have to embrace both.
You have inspired me to start sewing again. Thank you, Lalanders!
We lost a goose……he flew into a car crossing the road….still hurts to think about it,, so sad to know you will never see them again……BUT the clown looks amazing❣️
I think you have a typo. I think you mean crown.
Wonderful job Stephanie! It looks magnificent!
The completed bed crown and bed throw are a gorgeous ensemble!!! Châpeau, Madame de Jarvis!!
Looks beautiful Stephany! Great job to all the helpers too! Sad about Petit Pois. 😢
The bed crown is spectacular!!!
Andie, you are brilliantly talented !!!! Love them !!!
The bed crown is stunning..stunning and stunning. I took a photo of it and kept looking at it. I cannot have enough of its beauty I am like you keep loosing my scissors. People loose their socks in the washing machine, i loose my scissors in my work room. I make curtains and upholstery and bought 6 scissors that kept in every corner of my work room, but still manage to loose them.
me too and my thread
Beautiful curtains!
Lo❤️e the bed. You, ve inspired me Stephanie. X
it's so pretty!
Absolutely beautiful, just beautiful. Looking forward to the whole bed done. WOW BEAUTIFUL, WELL DONE. Take care and God bless.
I always loved your headboard, but now with the crown and curtains...it really stands out and it all looks stunning together! I am so very sorry for the loss of little pea chick, that is so, so heart breaking. Take really good care of yourselves. Sending warm hugs to you all at Lalande. Much love Kathy x

I love the beautiful crockery❣️ You guys always find the best things
The bed crown is glorious!!!!
Bless you little pea chick, so sorry mumma seph. 🕊 Really enjoyable seeing you sew the beautiful bed piece Stephanie - thanks for taking us along.
Rest in peace, little Petit Pois, you had a good life and one bad moment. That’s what our farmer grandfather taught us grandchildren. Your Couronne de Lit is magnificent, Stephanie! And I love how you complete, complement it and the bed with different toiles. I did the same in my bedroom, using an antique 19th century toile valance with the original ball fringe and matching side panels. I found a pile of quilted toile at an antique market and I had enough to upholster a small bench and slipper chair and covered a long bolster. Sewing and seeing it come together is so much fun! I am glad that it helped you cope and lift your spirit despite grieving for Petit Pois. He is definitely over the rainbow. I am keeping Isabel and Percy in my thoughts. Godspeed all around!
