Both Fabi and Nepo fought valiantly. What sadness Fabi must feel to not see this through
All of the top 4 played brilliantly. Hikaru and gukesh both had 98% accuracy in their game. About as good as a human being can play.
Bro became a world championship Challenger while im here deciding what to have for dinner 😭😭😭
In India legal age to start working for livelihood is 18 years but Gukesh at 17 going to play world championship match😂😂😂
@@haqsedesi1622 and he's gonna get atleast 800000$ ( 6.6 cr ₹) for being challenger in world championship. That's like 10 years salary worth 😭😭

@@ayush.ambhore25bruh someone's a bitch . Chill my guy I'm still a student.
Well, that's what Anand was thinking about as well, so....
Fabi: Draw?? Nepo: Okay ………I am sorry ( says a lot about Nepo’s Personality ) Both heartbroken 💔
When does he say sorry ??
@@guccibubbaits in this channel short

Fabiano is probably even more devastated after seeing the analysis
This is why the eval bar should not be used in commentary Naive fans would realise how difficult a position actually is
Exactly 💯
Danya does a fantastic move to explain and show complexity. He is amazing.
That's exactly why it's useful though. It makes you understand even the most natural moves can still lose a game.
who cares if they understand or not, its more about narration in chess streams to get more viewers and get them to stay. I am 1500 even i cant watch these high lvl games without eval
@@Lolkop555 the computer will never show how hard it is practically to win a position Ultimately chess is a game between humans "Caruana couldn't win a +5 position what a fool"
Ian said : I am sorry, because he know he is lossing, and if Fabi win it, Fabi will able to play a tie breaker game, but the sportsmanship Ian show makes him keep playing for the best move, fighting for a draw. Fabi response : That's my fault, because he let the winning chance slip on his own. It is a sad result for both of them, but they earn everyone respect.
Thanks for explaining it, as I had still not understood
Their post-game interaction where Nepo says "I'm so sorry" and Fabi replies "It's my fault" had me broken; even though I was rooting for the Indians.
The draws with Abasov costed these two the most. But it is what it is
yep every game is important. even last place can be the king maker so to speak.
@GetRealSin By that logic Vidit helped Gukesh win by winning twice with Hikaru
Yeah like Abasov was just there to be milked
@@sudeepdalbanjan8595 I don’t know where did you find that logic in what I said.
@@RyperAMV In every tournament, in every game there are the weak seeds, the strong seeds, the outsiders and the favorites. No one said that he is there to be milked. Even results show that he was the weakest player among them. Geez
Queen endgames are known to be complicated. Any natural move could cause you to lose all advantage. That check, which is a natural-looking move that I (I'm rated 2000) and all the commentators would've played is apparently a blunder... Even Magnus has trouble with Queen endgames. It's just that there are hundreds of thousands of variations to calculate by the third move for Queen endgames.
So if I am playing GMs I keep the Queen till the end. Got it. 😅
Yeah. Back in the day when GMs could still (somewhat) keep up with the engines rule #1 was to get the Queens traded off when playing against an engine : ) Because the availability of Queen moves creates so many lines that you're guaranteed to get outcalculated
This game was very difficult for both players. The pressure for Nepo and Fabi was unreal. Fabi will probably regret this game for the rest of his life, it was his big chance to be world champion.
Definitely, I just hope that either one could get into the next championship but tbf they're getting older and newer players have been popping out 😢
Man i feel sad for fabi
you see the interview they gave. Fabi said he felt like an idiot after that game.
Just a title.. Everybody knows who the world champion, number one, the GOAT.. actually is
I just want 3 things before 2035 is hikaru, fabi and ian t9 won atleast 1 championship of chess
I was listening to this game earlier on twitch audio, in my car. NGL this was more intense than a Super Bowl.
Gukesh's game itself made him world championship challenger 😂
here it meant there were no tie-break with Rapid format because of this draw.. 🤔
Gukesh played well, but likely had no chance in a rapid tie break...there is luck involved in the candidates, and gukesh definetly got lucky
Luck was a major factor
@@blainelacquement8808fabi chokes under pressure it's better he lost
@@VivekSharma-sn7hl If Ding can do it then Fabi can do it too… they have similar play styles after all
Gukesh vs Hikaru turned out an uber boring game. Fabi vs Ian gave me tears. Spectacular match.
Wasn't Hikaru winning the endgame? The engine says so
@@Colbert85 no it was a dead draw, engine showed gukesh was slightly better in some positions. Hikaru never had any lead.

Watching this live was about as tough as watching Nepo's last game in the championship
I said it Twice. Once more for you Nepo. You the best Nepo. We will get it another day Champ.❤
There are some things, more valuable than any title. Perhaps the cruel lines of history will forget all except the champions, but between the lines, we all will remember the honesty and high character of these two gentlemen.
We remember Bronstein, Geller, Keres, Korchnoi.
Fabi was completely winning 😢
technically yes but practically no. nepo made impulsive mistakes earlier but was clearly up on time because of that and in the end, it was practically impossible for fabi to find the winning continuations time and again under that time pressure.
@@coosoorlog Saying it's practically impossible is a big stretch. I am sure that Fabi would have won this game 90% of the time if this is not the final round. There are multiple points in the game that he could have simplified the game and went for a clear winning endgame. It's more like the nerve in this case. But I guess that is what make Magnus so dominant. He never miss this kind of position under pressure.
@@coosoorlogIt was not “practically impossible” , but of course very difficult. I think if not for nerves/ immense pressure, Fabiano would not have played Ka1 or Qc6+, at least not without spending more time in a position where he didn’t risk anything. But credit to Nepo, some incredibly tricky and resilient defensive moves. Heartbreaking all round.
Fabi and Ding have similar play styles and they both collapse when they're low on time. However, Ding is known to clutch when he's in a must-win situation, as shown by his dominance pre-2020.
Queen endgames are unfortunately way too complicated that any human, including Magnus, would have trouble grasping due to the variations. It's just unfortunate because before the 40th move, Fabi has an opportunity to liquidate and be up 2 pawns in a simplified endgame without the black h pawn, yet chose against it.
Kudos to heros Caruana and Nepo. Want to see them again in these contexts.
This was brutal for those two. I'm very sorry for Fabi.. this must be crushing him but the game was too complicated! Good sportsmanship from Nepo. There's really no fault from anyone. Only things to be proud of. And congratulations to Gukesh for the absolutely amazing run.
A great result for anyone, but for a 17 years old, virtually unbelievable
Atleast this time both the players lost even if they drew so they are both feeling the same, still very difficult in that situation but kinda puts you at ease that your opponent is in the same boat
Now players who went for quick / blend draws will feel even worse, knowing they could have tried with the 25min each...
Not because maybe if they went for thats Draw Will be losing
I would rather have any of these two to play in the championsip but all players played their hearts out. 👏
It was a very intense match! Nakamura, Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano seemed to be at the same level somehow but, at that level what can one say to judge their skills. Is tough. Congrats to Gukesh!
Games like this showcase how tough chess is.
Absolute heartbreaking for both of them. Ian quickly knew he had to fight for his life, and he was very empathetic Fabi could not convert this advantage.
Good to see that young player done this ,will give booster to other young players to create history in chess by defeating world top players ❤
Two of the greatest chess players and gentlemen ❤❤
This game was crazyyyy broooo.....Dayumn
This was hard to watch, great battle between both players, very emotional, it is incredible to see how Nepo apologizes, but Fabi tells him that it is his own fault, it was like a scene produced, in this case by reality.
Incredible players, I was rooting for Nepo to have another shot to become World Champion
I hope Fabi didn't go back to see the evaluation bar
Gg, 2 of the most deserving challengers!
Chess commentators on every single move: THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!
this game is so good that even Danny Rensch as commentator couldn't ruin it
"We're hearing them still talking" NO, we freaking aren't... jeez shut your gob at least for a sec, you can resume the commentary later
This is heartbreaking ❤
Thats crazy i would not only take the board but the whole table.
Ian, the Salieri of chess.
such a close tournament. 4 guys could have won it and Gukesh the iceman closed the draw on the final day what a mature performance.
Great job
The Candidates needs a review. If you look at the results table, the "winner" is not the person who plays the best against the best players, it's the player who plays the best against the lower rated players. The players at the bottom have the most power to influence the results - by either not playing as well (unintentionally) or giving up because they can't mathematically win any more. Don't get me wrong - Gukesh is a worthy winner. Neither Hikaru, Nepo or Fabi were able to win on demand - as you'd expect of a champion. But as Magnus said, the system needs to be reviewed. A round robin style in itself is not ideal when draws are more common than wins.
What a cope. gukesh won on demand against nijat and alireza. If these player were champion material they wont wait for on demand opportunity to performance
high on copium
Buddy remember sports is bigger than sports player . Don't take it granted for any player.Gukesh is a younger kid thats what he achieves ,if your thought apply then gukesh one draw against this seasoned player is more than winning this tournament .players are strong but term and conditions are always on top priority not indivisual performance and rating
Exactly
Then what hikaru, favi and ian dont win agi st guku
Guys gotta relax with the eval bar. Its 3500 stonkfish. These are mere humans.😂
I feel for Fabi. Also, Nepo did not lose any of his games. He still did not qualify. The only thing I will criticize is Rd2 to pick up the h2 pawn earlier. I saw that myself though I can see the pressure getting to them. I also saw Ka2 as the winning move, the moth into the flame, by Fabi. Though I was not sure of the entire follow up.
Oh Fabi will be back alright. He's 2805. He'll be qualified by rating

Epic. I feel bad for Fabi. But the integrity of the game won.

Yea agreed
gukesh next champion
Жаль Непомнящего, ну и Каруану тоже. Оба скорее всего больше не получат такого шанса сыграть за титул
Most disappointing Fabi game ever, though, regardless of how difficult the moves might have been. At the point where he almost made a three fold repetition there was another check still available which led to the path of checkmate. Should have made that move, even if it meant risking losing because a draw meant not winning anyway.
Unfortunately they don't have stockfish in their brains so that's not possible
Funny to see all the three commentators keeping talking and talking but unable to give the relevant lines.
Fabi is the third most rated player ever, its sad to see he never become world champion...
Can't he participate in next candidates tournament?
i very thankful to nepo ..(gukesh).
I love Hess but dont speak over their little postgame discussions!!
How can fabi sleep tonight
They could be more neutral, Otherwise very good commenting.
can anyone brief me the context? why it's brutal?
As a magnus fan im happy neither fabi or naka won
Feel bad for Fabi 😢
They should give more points for a win, like in football, draw 1 point, win 3 points.
Not at all. Draws are very common in chess and a win would give the winner way too much of a lead. It’s fine the way it is.
What if one of them surrendered at the end to give the other a chance against gukesh? Would that be legal?
yeah
Yes, but the integrity of the game is questioned at that point. If for example Nepo would have resigned to allow Fabi to advance to tie breaks against Gukesh and Fabi won, then he went on to beat Ding he would be considered an illegitimate champion. I don’t think Fabi or Nepo would want to win it that way. Better to go down honorably and try and come back in 2 years.
first and foremost it would be unethical and very poor sportsmanship. theoretically illegal too, although it's a matter of whether it could be actually proven - but that's another story. there is pretty strong circumstantial evidence that the Soviet players did this sort of thing back in the Cold War days (throwing or drawing games to give eachother a better chance against foreign players in international tournaments).
"Chess is a draw 50% of the time" The other 50%: 💀💀💀
This game gave me motion sickness.
Love to see Gukesh win the championship. Would actually love to see Magnuts vs Gukesh instead! maybe one day. Then when Magnuts loses his fans can say oh well, he was past his prime!
I think Ding will defend tho
Magnus classical game has been rusting slowly for the last 2 years.. no chance for Carlsen against Gukesh
@@GoodOldFella970 Ding Liren is the champion , not Magnus. Gukesh is playing vs Ding Liren for WC title
Well ding just hv to take game to tie breaker to be fair.... Just take game to blitz mode against gulesh and I feel gulesh will crumble in pressure
Hikaru let this guys down, he’s not a creative enough to play brilliantly.. In fact, he’s not taking the game seriously..
If Hikaru had won they wouldn't have qualified either. They had to win and they didn't.
literally nobody asked you
gukesh is just thanos
More like IRONman
Gukesh was just the only one who defeated Abasov 2.0/2.0 because he had him on the later Rounds and pressed for a win; meanwhile, the others had him much earlier and didn't press because they didn't want to take risks. That's what separated him over everyone else, especially Nepo who went 1.0/2.0 vs. Abasov
@@MasterInHD yeah totally it was Gukesh’s fault others couldn’t win with abasov. He just got lucky in getting 9/14 which includes an extremely unfortunate loss of a won game to alireza and outplaying Nepo and pressing for a win in a game which ended in a draw. Right???🤡🤡
@@MasterInHDcry harder 😂😂
@@michaelscott1231 I can tell you’re extremely garbage at the game just by the way you’re talking as if you know how chess tournaments even work. There’s psychology involved in it. It’s always easier to go for win in the later stages of the tournament then in the earlier stages even if you risk losing. You wouldn’t know because you have such low IQ and doubt you’re above 2000. Another U2000 trashcan
it is game of the year

Great effort but cmon, this looks like regular players playing rapid, i know the position is tough but they're gms, literal gms, you can't be making that mistakes, but i guess it was the nerves and a lot of factors, idk i'm not a good player myself lol.
yeah it's just Dunning Kruger effect with you
there’s a difference between gms and the all-knowing computer
@@purplewine7362i never implied i was better than them, hehe, i'm used to them making good moves in different tournaments
Tremendous psychological pressure (that's not a regular tournament) combined with overall exhaustion (it's not like they can fully recover throughout the tournament, even with the rest days). Even the best players get paranoid, start overthinking etc. Human brains simply aren't designed to play chess. And that's part of the (uneasy) pleasure
@@vibovitold makes sense, but still tough to witness all of this, really hoped better for them
Truely sad, one had to let other one win tbh
Yes, and they cannot resign or just throw away the game just to prolong or probably quash Gukesh seat to the WCC via a playoff. Gukesh played fair and showed fighting spirit so they also consider that part as to why they didn't just want to give their seat to the other in a dead-draw by suddenly blundering or unexpectedly resigning a drawn position which would be a black mark on both their careers had they done so. I think nepo felt more pain for Fabi, seeing how he salvaged this draw after being almost down multiple times. I felt nepo wished he lost to fabi base on the last seconds of the game and his facial expression at that lost opportunity for fabi.
That's stupid
You really see nothing wrong or unsportsmanlike about two players fixing a game result to reduce the chances of another player?
why they don't use a coin?
illegal
Because that's collusion, no matter if you use something random (like a coin) or a bribe (many coins). Anything else than playing to eachother's best ability is basically like a conspiration by two players to reduce the chances of another player (in this case Gukesh). How could that possibly be fair play? What's next then, maybe not playing a game at all and just flipping a coin, let's go to the beach instead : ) It's a professional sport
Nah man ,Nepo literally never lost.He deserved to win. Alireza and idiotsov ruined the tournament.
Never losing doesn't mean you deserve the spot. Giri didn't lose a single game in 2016 and finished 6th same for Ding in 2018 who finished fourth. You have to earn your spot with wins.
@@mnm1273 still you cant play the candidates tournament with a player like abasov in it. He never tried to win, just too draw. Gifted to many points to other leaders. Nepo earned those.
@@prioratodikingsbridge1717 Nepo played for a draw with Abasov that's his fault. Abasov earned his spot, and it's up to the players to win against "easy" opponents.
Abasov is a nice, humble guy, and a very strong GM (if obviously not on the same level as the rest of the pack here). He qualified legitimately and even if you don't like the format or the process that seeded him into the tournament, it's sure as hell not his fault. Calling him "Idiotsov" only shows what a bitter and immature person you are.
Draw = Lose for both of them. I dont understand why they don't do something to avoid the draw. Maybe play with 30secs on the clock and let's see who plays faster? Or just play Rock-paper-scissors and then the loser lets the winner win? Idk, but lose-lose seems the worst scenario. Maybe would be unfair/dirty to do that? Can someone tell me if that would be illegal maybe? Sorry I dont play chess.
its possible, but that non ethical, or lack of sportmanship
@@user-SkmBeats thanks for the answer! Yeah that's what I thought, but still seems a little bit stupid to me. Maybe they could've found an opening or a position where the % of draws is very very small and go from there? That wouldn't be unethical, right?
They have brilliant minds, I guess they already thought about all this and so much other stuff I can't even comprehend. Just trying to understand it.
If hikaru was playing fabi then as both are from USA yeah. Of course that will be non etgical for sure but again why won't u
@@riteshpathak6588 But even if they don't know each other, to flip a coin and the winner win would better than draw hahhah In a game theoretical pov that would be the optimal way to proceed right?? Of course, non-ethical, etcetc.
