    • @@glaxb17 Rhandzekile, meaning ‘loved’ in Shangaan, was first sighted in 2009 in the Umbabat Private Nature Reserve as a young sub-adult cow. Through the years since then, people who see her have expressed shock and awe that she has kept going. Rhandzekile has a large hole below her forehead, through which she breathes. Our vets suspect that her handicap is congenital. She appears on and off in the APNR and recently was seen lactating, with a calf in tow.

  • Although hard to look at, the elephant’s abnormality just shows the power of a good and super functioning herd. It certainly doesn’t seem to have affected her quality of life. It looked like she had swollen mammaries, which would mean she’s at least going to/ given birth. I guess it’s the equivalent to a cleft lip in humans. It’s not fatal, but it definitely not “cute.” Great catch of the zebra birth. Awesome footage as always.

    @LotsofLisa@LotsofLisa2 жыл бұрын
    • I've seen this one video where a guy talks about pre-historic humans and how some remains have shown us people born with abnormalities getting to live a full life, likely thanks to fellow humans enabling them to despite their disabilities. It's wonderful to know such a thing isn't unique to just us.

I'm a diver and my instructor told us most things in the ocean are smaller than a bread box. You have to get close and slow to see the good stuff. Everyone wants the rey or barracuda, and misses the life right below them. This vid had it all. That wound on the elephant was nasty, but it didn't seem life threatening.

Skin is vital for protection in that harsh environment. Watching those huge male lions walk right past that vehicle was nuts. It shows how acclimated park lions are to humans and vehicles and how ridiculously easy it must be for coward hunters to get close and kill them. They get shot by tourist cameras thousands of times and shot by a ruthless hunter just once.

    • There is protection, the guides carry rifles,but the animals are so used to humans and vehicles that they don't see them as prey so if they don't feel threatened they have no reason to attack. The guides would always try to scare the animals away first by shouting, making a lot of noise or maybe even firing their guns in the air before actually shooting at the lion/attacking animal etc It really would be the last resort and the guides are all nature lovers and really wouldn't want to hurt the animals, the gun is the last resort but they do have them in order to protect the tourists/themselves

  • It is a healthy female despite that congenital hole on the base of the trunk near forehead. And how do I know, it's a healthy female - It has given birth to a calf recently (before the video) - the mammary glands are swollen. That elephant could survive because of family setup of Elephant (most probably, if humans have not intervened in this case).
