    • I think Ian thought, their friendship would improve or at the very least stayed the same when Anthony left. He was probably hurt/offended when Anthony just blanked Smosh. Now we know that both of them understood each other’s position, and I’m glad they worked things out. I knew for a fact for the past few years they weren’t on good terms that much because they’d just acknowledge each other on their birthdays/Smosh anniversaries with really old pics.

They bought SMOSH when it was at its all time low and they helped it out, Rhett and Link are basically older versions of Ian and Anthony so I feel like they really sympathized with the situation and it’s so cool how willing they were to let SMOSH go. As someone who is uncomfortable showing emotions (let alone on camera) i know how hard it is to even just talk about these things. And you can see in the way he talks about their friendship that he's clearly spent a lot of time reflecting on it, and it shows great emotional intelligence. Not everyone wants to be completely vulnerable on camera for millions of people to see, and that's fine.

    • Yeah, you could just tell for awhile there that he was NOT ok. I was so genuinely worried for him there for a bit but then now with Anthony being back I. The picture you really do see him act as if he does actually feel better

      @lisafox3448@lisafox34484 ай бұрын
    • I’ve experienced being numb since I was 12 till today (I’m 19) because of school, just school. I love learning but have adhd so struggle to get stuff in on time or even ever. When I say I love learning I mean that I get really upset if I can’t learn something like math cause I know that there are cool concepts there. So like Anthony and Smosh I resented school but unlike him having a friendship and success tied into it, it was mixed up in a feeling of love for learning. And like Ian I felt like I couldn’t take a step back and give up on what I could gain from school in his case the potential success of his company. Anthony’s videos hit me at the beginning of high school when I wasn’t feeling the thrill of the transition to high school and relied on KZhead to cope. His videos on many different topics were great, especially the one about DID which got me learning about that for a bit. And so I started looking into who he is and found Smosh for the first time (and was surprised that I hadn’t seen it before) and when I found the videos talking about him leaving his business I was as invested as I could be at the beginning. As time went on and defy went out of business and Smosh was left to survive alone, I was there. When Brett and Link bought Smosh, I was there. And when they bought the company (this video), I was there. Seeing this video, seeing how they coped is invaluable to me and I’m happy to have been part of this journey even if it was simply as a observer. I’m in college and I’m considering dropping out, and i feel like I’m going to be floundering around like Anthony was when he left Smosh. I connect to the journey of two men’s video making venture, through a need for success in a conventional way. Which is ironic since creating videos on KZhead is not conventional, but with their success there is a conventional path your supposed to take in business which they did cause they didn’t know what else to do. Now that they have their creation back, thinking outside the box even in relation to business is key. Cause people do the conventional because they know it’s safe and supposedly guaranteed. But it’s not. And I feel like this story of two best friends estranged by a business is a shining example of that. Thank you for reading this to the end (or not). I’m excited to see where Anthony, Ian and Smosh go next. I hope you have a fulfilling life (and if you can’t imagine it, that’s alright) and always remember that’s it’s ok to consider or genuinely take the unconventional path the whole

  • It's heartbreaking to see the difference in emotion between these two and how they converse during the video. Since his seperation, Anthony had time to declog all the emotional resentment he had for the company and was finally able to do his own creative thing. This interview was likely the first time he was able to lift those weights off personally to Ian. And it's why he was able to cry at the thought of remembering their first lunch together, and how he realized that his childhood bestfriend was still there. In the meantime, Ian was left to manage this big company all by himself; he went through Anthony's seperation, Defy medias abrupt collapse, being adopted by Rhett and Link, the rewriting of Smosh's brand, managing a team of talented people, and handling criticism from the public. I couldn't imagine just how much emotional baggage Ian had to carry that he had to seek a therapist. And he mentioned getting therapy in this video like it wasn't a big deal. But it was a big deal. Because Ian learned how to compartamentalize all his issues, he likely dealt with the emotional trauma a long time ago. Which is why, despite discussing all the things he went through in Smosh and with Anthony, that he got so used to not expressing his emotions. And its why we see him talk somewhat slower and emotionally un-phased in this interview. It's the image of a person who went through so much but still wants to put a smile on our faces. Though Anthony went through his fair share of struggles, I feel like Ian doesn't get enough credit whenever people talk about Smosh. And I think that's where the fans had it wrong - that Smosh wouldn't survive with just Ian in the picture.

That entire ordeal and watching everything around it was hugely inspiring. Rhett and Link were superb for giving Smosh a chance, with confidence for sure, and are the best for agreeing to sell it back all these years later with grace. Ian is a truly capable leader and the entirety of the Smosh crew really brought their A game to get Smosh through a very turbulent time and flourish to boot. Edit: Refined and added needed praise.
