Don't Starve is turning 10 years old, so why not celebrate by putting myself in one of its most desolate locations for 100 days?

This is a giant opportunity to teach the community about the Moon island, the Monkey Island, the Fig Biome and the stuff you can do in the ocean! You could do a challenge about having a "main" base at sea and only being able to go to those islands for farming and resources a lot of people don't know about how useful the Monkey biome is, or what you can acomplish with those giant fig trees!

@@vibez2806 yes it's called the moon quay island and it also has a portal that spawns resources and you're able to get stuff like plantable reeds
What about an ocean only? You can never leave your boat to mainland, and see how long you can survive? You would start off with an oar and a wooden raft.
this looks like a fun challenge, maybe another time, you could stretch the rules to just being "no mainland" so you could visit other ocean biomes, and also still get grass
"kicking off day 15 with our avian friend's eternal imprisonment" sounds like something a very sane person would say, i know because i wouldnt say it and i consider myself insane(ly annoying) enough
33:05 damn so close to extinguish the fire, that wiped out your twig farm. But did you know digging up a burning sappling can put out the fire aswell? I would have loved to see you clutch it, by removing the burning plant, before the others start smoldering. I love your whole idea of surviving only with lunar materials, and the way you play it out seems very methodical and near flawless. Even just the idea of playing the game without using grass, is a challenge I never would have thought to consider. Very inspirational video, to go think outside the box, starting to enjoy the game from different angles, and maybe finally cure that pk addiction we all seem to have when building a base in pub servers.

I can't even survive a year on the main land lol , this has some nice tips on surviving as well
The lunar island is such an underrated area even without grass you can get the ekvivalent of a dark sword
I had the idea for this challenge too! Never made it public though. So while grass is absolutely unavailable, flint for pickaxes is non renewable too, as is wood. You can't make bug nets to replant lune trees after all. So you would need some way of getting flint or breaking hot springs lest you will freeze to death in winter. When attempting the more long lived version of the challenge (how long can you survive instead of survive X days) these problems would need to be adressed. One method would be Maxwells shadow miner but since you can't farm nightmare fuel that option is limited too. Perhaps Wickerbottom has some use too, I haven't checked her after the rework. Lastly, Wormwood. First: Rot actually consistently heals 4 hp, it's just a health over time effect so you can't spam it. And with the new Wormwood skill tree you have a few more options. Sadly since bees aren't available you can't make bramble armor which is sad. But you can make lunar saplings and even lureplants. To craft a fleshy bulb you need leafy meat (kill unripe saladmanders) and compost wraps. The nitre and rot are easy to come by but for the manure your potential only option is ipecaca syrup which I know nothing about, which might be uncraftable or require pigmen and the like. Lastly Wormwood can turn dragonfruits into allied saladmanders which would increase your combat power. Great video!
That's why I valued Wilson so highly: Twig > Log and Rock > Flint transmutations makes both renewable with Saplings and Stone Fruit bushes
I almost never make bee boxes as Wormwood now because I find that taming a beefalo early on reduces the need for honey poultices and if you stay in a bee biome for a day or two you can collect easily hundreds of stingers. I've never based on Lunar island but my gf plays Wickerbottom and those two as a pair might be ideal for a lunar island base. Bramble traps will kill hounds and penguils easily and both characters have advantages of staying on there (Super growth formula for WW and book spamming for WB). Honestly I think the main thing would be missing is you isolate yourself from the rest of the games content. Creating a boat pontoon between the main island and lunar would probably be best. It sucks that after all these years there is no easy option to connect the two biomes (I guess this is what the new shark boss is trying to solve).
I've never thought of how easy krampus farming actually is, woah If i ever sink another 100 in don't starve and do a personal world run it's probably going to be on my list to do😊

The moon stuff in this game heavily reminds me of Rher from Fear and Hunger: Termina. Like, the similarities are uncanny, there's even moonscorched enemies. Common inspirations between the dev teams, mayhabs?
Transformations related to the moon are legions in mythologies. Plus, both games are inspired by cosmic horror - thus why there’s a sanity mechanic in both games. This genre is very interested in space and threats from space, beyond what humanity understands. What is better than the moon for it, as it’s both an occasion to twist something familiar into an eldritch horror as well as to use the mythological implications to dwelve into body horror? It’s rarer to see the sun receive the same treatment in fiction, but it’s done beautifully in Fallen London, Sunless Sea and Sunless Sky.
26:07 did you know that wobsters can only be put in the crockpot ALIVE? Abigail auto kills the fish you caught so i couldn't cook one for wobster dinner. If you also cook wobsters in a fire you can no longer cook the In crockpot
True, unfortunately Lunar Wobster are too... made entirely out of glass to cook alive or dead

I’d like to enter the giveaway and personally when I did this challenge a while back I found that Wes was one of the best people to do, easy sanity management and his tool preservation and I never found that food was really an issue.

Actually, wormwood likes eating long pig (human meat) he has some VERY interesting inspect dialogue… And he doesn’t get the health debuffs from it…

Don't things only go on fire during summer if they are on screen? 'didnt want to leave my base in case anything caught on fire' is actually the oppisite of what would happen being at your base is the only way things could go on fire :D
I meant more if something starts smoldering as I leave it will basically guarantee it catches fire

I really like this video and since I haven’t played this game in a long time I’m really grateful for all of your explanations. There is just one little possibility for improvement here: You could pronounce some of your words more clearly. It’s not a big thing and most of the time your words are loud and clear - but sometimes you start mumbling. Since english is not my mother tongue and I‘m not very familiar with the game, that makes it hard to follow sometimes.

got an idea for a challenge don't plant any trees you said that you survived without any cut grass so i thought could you survive without trees but that seams impossible so i thought what else could you do and thought even if you cant survive without trees then how many do you need to survive? and that turned into no planting tree's

i really wish we would have seen just a blind challenge. After knowing that he restarted and scouted for the perfect biom it was very clear that he would win. This took all of the fun out of it. How is it a challenge when you just restart until everything is perfect.

• Can eat Monster Meat with no penalty • Can befriend Shattered Spiders and make them attack each other for easy spider loot • Low maximum sanity means they can lower their enlightenment easier

wendy is better than webber on that list?????????? webber can place a normal spider de so if he wants silk he doesnt need to bother the shattered ones and another thing is he can tame the shattered spider while abigail is just a single follower with nothing special besides an AOE also wormwood i agree hes a chad (im a wormwood/webber main so im biased)
Killing Shattered Spiders for 0 resource cost is way more valuable in my opinion, but the Spider Egg to start is very strong
