    • @Just A Chair Did he though? I'd imagine a video titled "20 Mistakes Noobs Make in Don't Starve Together" would serve more to show noobs what not to do instead of berating them for being a noob. Surely you watched the video? Did he sound that toxic? Quite possibly the dumbest comment I've seen in a while.

    • If you do survive past fall, you are gonna HATE it. Unless you are using willow as your character then it will be kind of hard to keep yourself warm in the winter, and I suggest if you create a new game that you don’t put it to winter, because that’s gonna be a huge challenge :,,,)

    @Leon_-@Leon_-2 жыл бұрын
    • If you're just base sitting then any gear will not really matter. Anyway, it is still more efficient to just use thermal stones as you can just juggle between fresh ones instead of cooling down/heating up for a while beside a fire.

    • @@eien1107 I'm curious the bases you build that are that close pressed, you can just stay near your source of warmth or cold and still manage your farm or all else without catching mass fire or getting stomped by a giant. lol

      @Leon_-@Leon_- Жыл бұрын
    • @@Leon_- I'm saying you can do pretty much whatever you want, but you'll be more efficient in general if you let the heatstones hug the heatsource for you. We build our stuff away from the "dwarf star area" so we can't hug it while cooking/farming, we still put the polar light there as it'll freeze you if you are too close. That or we have mushlights or just wear a CC crown. A bunch of heatstones are beside the furnace, polar light, or in a fridge, swapping between them when needed.

    • @Shinobu Oshino This great impairment called a job, other games, and different hobbies. I don't play using meta strategies because why would I? It's not a competitive game, it's an open-ended survival game. So I play the way I find fun. Besides the fact my original comment is nearly a half year old, I don't tend to have Chester at base with my teams, since they take Chester for their boss things, I assume. And yes? Manage the farm, what's "lmao even" about that exactly? When I did play more regularly, I enjoyed base sitting. Part of that was learning how to grow giant crops on my own. You use ice Chester. Congrats. I use campfires, endos, fridges and thermal stones.

      @Nana-tx2mu@Nana-tx2mu Жыл бұрын
    • @@Nana-tx2mu the way he speaks of the other players, and diminishes them gives him a bad rep.... Not to mention that he doesn't understand the game well enough, even when this was released, there were many fallacious claims in this video, such as farming being useless.... Which simply isn't true, and it's potentially necessary for a large group of people. Farms have food items better than blue mushrooms, like 40 HP for dragon pies(3 twigs and a dragon fruit in a pot), or potatoes and tomatoes, which also give 20 HP each without the sanity drain. Some of the information is correct, but there is far too much belittling on the part of Edgy Rick, and he thinks he knows better than the rest of us. Like how he was dissing on stone fruit bushes, that many players enjoy, or saying that you have to play the way he does, eating raw blue shrooms, and being constantly chased by sanity monsters, bc "you will be strong enough with strong magical items", despite the fact that many experienced players wouldn't even do this... Because there is little reason to be insane all the time, many players simply don't enjoy it, and it wasn't really designed to be a pleasant experience for players. There is also no reason to fight everything with a dark sword or Hambat, there is no shame in having other mobs fight each other while you reap the benefits...on and on, ect. There are many different ways to play DST, and Edgy Rick simply lumps them all in with noob behavior, because he thinks they are dumb, because anything he doesn't do ...is dumb. This is the first video I've seen by him too, I was getting irritated and came to the comments, and discovered it was Edgy Rick, who my friend told me was an infamous toxic you tuber before. • The insanity filter is meant to show uh The insanity your character is going through so taking it out feels so wrong Also how is there anything wrong with healthbars? That's most certainly a quality of life mod.

    @izukumidoriya8971@izukumidoriya89713 жыл бұрын
    • I totally agree with that. I think that insanity is deliberately meant to be avoided unless you instantly need nightmare fuel or fighting Fuelweaver. Unfortunately, Insanity creatures being easy for professional players is one of the reasons why you see them always looking around in paranoia (Their characters, at least). I personally avoid insanity because it's effects look downright horrifying and make the gaming experience worse, even if you can deal with them, knowing that there are insanity demons hunting for your soul is anxiety-inducing and so on.

    • @@aidansevigny3580 It's simple, head slot doesn't have any items besides armor that are really useful (top hat, garland, and other sanity-restoring items aren't nearly as effective like green shrooms or cactus). Body slot on the other hand offers you either armor or a backpack, the latter being extremely useful in all parts of the game. You also have to consider the cost of these items, for football helmet you need a pig skin and a rope, for pigs skin you can just smash 1 pig house for 2 easy skins, on the contrary, for log suit you need 8 wood and 2 ropes making football helmet way more efficient and easier to come by.

  • 20 Mistakes "Noobs" make when they try to play as Edgy Rick. Some of they are not mistakes actually, just when you play Wolfgang you will play comfortable, if avoid they. In DST you can play way more character. Wickerbottom can get much food with farms and her book. Wurt cant eat meat, so she really need a farm to eat dragonfruit and other veggies, because berries and caps dont restore much food. Also sanity shouldnt be low in early game, because killing nightmares are spending time, when players actually dont need nightmre fuel (they havent shadow manipulator). P. S. Beefalo hat is awesome, if you wearing helmet instead of it, you just cant kite.

    @Jukanella@Jukanella3 жыл бұрын
    • The beefalo hat is completely worthless. Go test out the difference in-game between wearing a football helmet with a full thermal stone and a beefalo hat with a thermal stone. The difference is not worth the time it takes to make the hat, and the sacrifice of armor. You can survive for over a full day with the thermal stone and the football helmet which is more than enough to make winter feel like autumn.

      @bongus6754@bongus67543 жыл бұрын
    • @@bongus6754 that maybe true but dont forget that beefalo hats are also useful with keeping willow warm in winter, going to collect more manure for spring (or winter) and when paired with a thermal stone is actually one of the best combos not to mention the puffy vest you can craft from koalaphant trunks

      @derphatchief7899@derphatchief78993 жыл бұрын
    • @@derphatchief7899 The thermal stone is where 95% of your insulation comes from, yes the beefalo hat is useful, but it takes the headslot which should be used for a helmet. Also I'd say that puffy vests waste the chest slot, which could be used for a backpack or a yellow amulet if you have one. • I'm okay with your other content, but wow this is just wrong. I've been playing dst for a few months now (I know, not as long as your 2k hours that you oh so love to boast about) And for a veteran in a game called don't starve TOGETHER, you quite clearly have no concept of other playstyles. Not everyone wants to play as wolfgang and beat up every mob in the game with a hambat or dark sword. Some people may want to build a base, or build big farms to get efficient crops such as dragonfruit for dragonpie. People might want to download mods, as you fail to realise that for new players, dst is incredibly hard, and for older players mods can add a whole new game experience you just can't have in the original game. In addition, clothing items such as the beefalo hat and winter hat are incredibly useful for your first winter, coupled with a thermal stone you can stay outside for days without need to heat up next to a campfire. So, how about you stop putting people down because of your own closemindedness and actually appreciate other people being different to you. (Go on, call me a noob in the replies, I dare you.)

      @MrOrzech1@MrOrzech13 жыл бұрын
    • MrOrzech It usually happens after the first year which is first summer You need to manually check if this healthy grass/sapling is infected by inspecting it and the character has different dialogue when it does, if it obviously looks different compared to others, you cant save the plant and need to uproot the nearby infected ones You just have to dig it up and replant it Or else it infects other nearby plants and make them unable to give resources when its too late Its more annoying since you have to check each grass/sapling if you have massive farms that is not grass geckos or twiggy trees and doesnt really add anything other than a nuisance

  • Having to stop all your forward motion just to enter a menu just so you can see numbers on your health/sanity/hunger meters (that's how it works in an unmodded game) is pure bullshit and a mod to fix that is just quality of life. Same goes for mob health. It doesn't make the mob easier, it simply reveals information that the game hides from you for no apparent reason. As a video game designer I've always struggled to understand what purpose does it serve. All it really does is discourage new players from engaging combat since they have absolutely zero tools to compare themselves to enemies and whether they are close to finishing it off, or their efforts might as well stop because they've been hitting the monster for 10 minutes with a weapon they don't even know how much damage it does, since that is hidden too. And your argument against it being just convienience is "What are they talking about?". So yea. No argument there. It is quality of life mod, and nothing more.

    @Pablo1517@Pablo15173 жыл бұрын
    • The only way I can think of hiding health bar being a good choice is in some games like monster hunter were you need to pay attention to the monster's animation to know how badly you damaged it. Dst give you 0 clue about that. It's like you fight a bearger, you know it's going to die because you know how to count kites, but it's just: I'm fine, no wait I'm dead.

We’re talking about people who can’t even survive till winter or die in it’s first days, and you’re telling them to kill a boss. “Kite him to a swamp” Assuming the noob can kite him and survive the swamp long enough for the deerclops to die by tentacles or merms or spiders. As a lot of people pointed out: this is not a noob guide, a noob will die trying to follow it, this is a speedrunning guide for people who don’t need guides with exception of updates And as if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s the comment replies... @benismann@benismann2 жыл бұрын
    • To be fair, I died much more when I dodged Deerclops since the Eyebrella is the only item in the game that makes spring and summer bearable. Deerclops is the only boss you really, really should beat in your first winter and if you can't, keep trying... If you don't, your first spring and summer will likely kill you or force you to waste your time standing around doing nothing as you can't gather many resources or kill mobs when you got to hold umbrella all the bloody time and for summer if you don't have certain things ready such as bird cage, bird, fridge, bee boxes, etc. you'll be in a position that even experienced players would struggle with. Killing deerclops in a swamp is honestly the most noob-friendly way to kill him. Pigs can't do it, neither beefalo so there really isn't much else than direct combat and swamp tentacles. I have no problem with this bit but I agree with the rest.

Its fun for the challenge but it doesnt make them more pro than those who enjoy basebuilding. For example youre telling people not to chop trees and instead break down pighouses... thats only for speedrunners not pros.

    @nicholasng9814@nicholasng98142 жыл бұрын
    • You should be breaking down pighouses because the only pighouse you'll ever actually use will be in your base. And if I'm proven wrong, since you now have a pighouse farm in your base, you can build a pighouse anywhere on the map. That's as stupid as avoiding digging up berry bushes, grass and twigs.

      @shinobuoshino5066@shinobuoshino5066 Жыл бұрын
    • The first part was correct... The smashing pighouses information is actually really useful since most people wouldn't guess that a wooden structure gives you pig skin. The other thing about sanity not being a problem if you just get really strong weapons is useful too. The problem is how he doesn't explain anything about HOW you get good weapons and armor outside of weird speedrunner knowledge about how you can rush through a cave dungeon thing to get a thulecite helmet???? and then they dont explain how in the world green mushrooms and a hambat have anything to do with that.

    • Example as to it not being quality of life: During the Ancient Fuelweaver battle, the boss has 16,000 hp, can become invulnerable, and can heal by eating his minions. It's basically impossible to tell what his HP is at any time, and he absolutely can sustain himself forever if you fight poorly. He may be at 50 hp for one moment, then suddenly heal 8,000 the next moment. If I have that mod enabled I can just kill him, but if I don't I'm not going to go out of my way to get one hit in, I may think he still has 10,000 HP when he's a moment away from death. How anyone can think that is quality of life is beyond me, and it shows how nooby you two are.

  • Well, I have a few things. Yes, I'm not an expert at dont starve, but I've been playing it for a few years now and have learned a lot. I do agree that turning off everything hostile and turning up everything useful is not a great learning experience, but it's ok to lessen them and slowly introduce them. Don't Starve is a VERY challenging game and to be honest you are not going to be able to learn everything on your own. You're going to have to do extensive research on about everything because it's basically impossible to find everything by pure trial and error. I think the one thing I understand for beginners is turning off the bosses because it's better to learn how to survive normally first instead of trying to learn the basics of survival and bosses at once. And another note is that people play games to have fun and sometimes they do that in different ways. Some people just want to have an easy fun time and goof around in it and some people want it as hard as possible and are always looking for a challenge. There isn't exactly a "correct" way to play the game, there is only and intended legitimate way to play it. You bought the game, so it's up to you to choose. Just keep in mind that 90% of the dangerous things, especially the bosses, are VERY important to progressing and getting essential items. The game rewards risk, danger, and hard work. P.S. just wanna say that the game specifically warns you that your computer might not be able to handle the caves, so keep that in mind.

I like his videos, but maybe saying a simple mistake such as not breaking pig houses and chopping trees instead is a little over the top. I'm not trying to say this as an insult, but there is the fact some of the mistakes arent even mistakes, but tips to how to be a good player, somewhat to the effect of the amount of skill as him himself, thus helping but also somewhat interuppting the trial and error process of players. Edgy Rick, I enjoy your content but maybe you should maybe evaluate if giving a mistake lists instead of a tip list would help the learning process. In this game, having 200 hours means you are still a noob. You need to learn every detail of every thing that you can do and how to optimize it to be on that high level, and most people who play won't get there. His tips are for both, the brand new players, and the 200 hour players, I still learn a lot from him and I have 409 hours, give or take. I'm not as good as he is and still struggle. You can still play for fun and stuff, but with his guides it seems they are geared towards people who want to learn to optimize everything and become one of the good players, unlike beards guides for example, which are very much so geared towards new players and are easier to learn from if you don't have some experience with the game.

    • You said it perfectly. This guy is so alienated and full of himself, he really just tried recommending people rush the ruins if they're noobs in order to get better resources early on. 90% of these weren't "mistakes", they're literally required for noobs to do in order for them to get better at the game. Fighting anything in DST is difficult at first, so telling new people to just start randomly fighting is stupid. A better example of a similar "mistake" he could have said, was to not plant pinecones for treegaurds. They are excellent for practicing fighting, and low risk. They are the best creature to teach you how to kite. I honestly hope this video doesn't get a lot of attention from the DST community because it will severely harm any chance noobs had of continuing to play, they are probably looking for help and if they see this and realise that even with this "advice" they can't succeed, they'll just quit, because everything said here is trash. I could come up with a strong counterpoint to most things that were said in this video.

    • @@robertconners9865 First off, good job ignoring the few things I already pointing out and trying to bring up a new point. Second, the log and grass suit are "expensive", yes, but new players don't know how to fight werepigs so even if this guy tells them to get pigskins for a helmet, the advice is useless for the INTENDED AUDIENCE of the video, which are "Noobs." Things like the log and grass suit are made for newer players to be able to progress to certain parts of the game that they normally would not be able to. It's far easier, and if you're a noob it's far more efficient, to make grass and log suits. Not a football helmet. One of the only things I agree on here are the farm, farms aren't great and I'd definitely recommend new players looking into alternative sources of food since they're likely to starve if they focus on farms TL;DR - Telling noobs to craft armou that isn't NOOB FRIENDLY to get will definitely make them not survive. I agree, farms suck.

What you fail to see is while using it as your main source is not the best idea, having a secondary source of health foods to go with pierogis is a lot faster, letting you prepare much faster for something (A boss, going to the cave, moon rush, etc.) which is what you wanted. • I think many tips are bad advice tbh and let me explain why 1- log suit can protect you practically as much as a football helmet and is more affordable as pig skin is actually used for many essential crafts and if you’re preparing for a battle and only have one, it should go to a ham bat 2- sanity gain for some characters are very much needed and you really do need more then just a thermal stone to survive winter so using a tam o shanter during winter or when you’re low on sanity is a very good idea 3- even though farms are slow they can be extremely helpful during late game 4: a spear it always a cheap go to when you only need to take care of small things like a level 2 spider nest 5: one advanced farm would be equal to maybe 5 berry bushes worth of time and even though berry bushes are better early on farms are better later 6: he must only play easy characters such as Wolfgang and wx since he does not realize some characters need to fill some needs, like it’s harder to recover sanity as wicker so thats why they tend to save it for books and avoid blue caps or that warly needs farms for food diversity 7: screenshake is nice just for the feel of it 8: quality of life mods do exist and as long as it doesn’t affect the game, as in not changing occurences or lower the health of something the mod is fine, it dosent make you feel less acomplished 9: not getting wood is a bad idea as you will need to remake thise pig houses later on so for that time you’re just being lazy 10: stone fruit is amazing late game. More proof he never gets there I have onky one thing against rick and that he calls anyone who doesn’t follow his exact play style a noob and thats just rude and wrong, do not give him a sub also he really seems more like a very aggressive and not progressive type of player who just spawns in bosses and fights them instead of making worlds that go into late game and i don’t personally think new players should be taking some of his advice. Take it from someone who’s hosted a public world for 300+ days and done well as well as many duo runs that went way further. This is not very good advice for what will be a good world in late game.

    • 1. No, if you wear log suit, then you can't wear something more useful like a magiluminescence, which you should take to like every single fight, because there is really no reason not to. 2. Just kill the shadow creatures, or you know what? There is a glitch in DST where if you run away from 2 sanity monsters so they are offscreen, they will basically be frozen in time and more won't spawn. Also no, thermal stone is just enough but I guess if you got lucky with a tam o shanter you could use it, though the football helmet might still be better for surprise attacks. 3. No, because in late game you will likely get way more efficient methods like bunnyman farms. 4. Just use an axe. 5. No, 5 berry bushes produce a bit more, unless you spend days grinding all the manure, instead of being productive, and again, bunnyman farms for lategame. 6. You don't need to stay high on sanity, just fight the shadow creatures, also if the characters are so easy, why don't you play them? And it's just as easy to recover sanity as wicker as any other character, unless you meant the sleeping part of course, which you shouldn't do, it's a waste of time. 7. That's subjective, but for me personally when an earthquake happens in the caves, I literally can't focus on my screen at all because of how much it shakes. 8. yeh 9. Just break like a ton of them, and you can place a few near your base, and then save the rest for the raw materials (2 pig houses = alchemy engine, apart from gold!) 10. Not really, you can just use cacti as a replacement or BUNNYMAN FARMS, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS.

  • Misstakes and sub optimally playstyles are not really the same thing. they are all good tips to survive longer for sure, but some of they are not necessarily mistakes unlike keeping lag compensation on or not useing the mushrooms or other resorces in the wild. For example the screen shake and being topside in summer might not be easier then the alternatives, but it adds to the experience of playing the game. Its not as much of a mistake as its just playing the game differently in a somewhat harder way. Same thing with mods and changeing the world settings, it can make the game easyer ( or harder ) and makes it harder to learn and train your skills in actully playing the game. But that does not mean its a misstake to use them. By the logic in this video the best way to play the game is to rush the ruins and just kill whatever boss or do whatever goal you had in mind and ignore everything else. But that in itself also ruins the actual survival experience for some people.

  • I remember seeing this video when it came out, i thought that it was like, i dunno, i sorta internalized it and thought that i'd been playing the game wrong this whole time, i had to unlearn a lot of the stuff this video "taught" me so i could actually enjoy the game again. When i play games, i play very VERY carefully, i usually dont put myself in dangerous situations unless i really need to, this applies to dont starve as well. I stay at my camp during the night (unless im mid exploration) and try not to fight things until i feel i have good armor. I also like making sure my meters are as high as possible. And yknow what? Thats perfectly fine! Its how i play the game. Does it sometimes limit my experience to not explore as much and play safe? Probably, yeah. But i also get very anxious doing the more advanced things sometimes, im still working up to it :)

    • Except if you follow tips in this video, you save so much time that you can do whatever you want to, while having almost best in slot items for armor and weapon and stable food source. You clearly didn't follow any tips here, because if you did, you'd be enjoying the game with all the extra time you never had before. The only thing that's optional here is rushing ruins because ruins don't have anything important enough to try and beat them in 10 days, other than fun.

    • @@shinobuoshino5066 yeah i obviously didn't follow any of the tips, i didn't say i did. I don't care about playing "optimally", i really don't. I play games how i want to play them, and thats how i find fun in them. I take my time doing things and learning the game so i can have my own fun. If you find issue in that, i dont care, and will continue to play any and all games in my own way.

I wonder what's stopping you from playing optimally for 20 ingame days just so you can get over the apparently "unfun" part of the game and have more fun. I guess it's hard to have fun when you need to put in more effort than watching world generation window which is the only part of the game that you don't completely suck at.

    • @@shinobuoshino5066 Literally never said or implied "i have fun wasting time and dying" you are putting words in my mouth in order to further your opinion. in my opinion, a more accurate fake quote would be "i think taking my time and spending hours on farming and farming only is fun even though i could be doing much better things." thats something i have done before, and its not limited to dst/ds. also who in the fuck uses the word "noob" anymore holy shit. also i can play optimally (kinda?), i know how to get an alchemy engine on day 2 (day 1 if i'm lucky enough). i have just over 300 hours in both games combined. also bold of you to assume i suck at this game btw. am i great at it? eh, i'd say i'm just ok at it, but fuck man at least im having fun. i think its funny how mad you are getting about me playing games slowly lol. if you think hearing about me playing dst is bad, you should see me play stardew valley, i literally go the entire spring without a chicken coop half of the time i play or i dont upgrade my tools to iron till fall, or i just wont fish for an entire season its actually absurd. it does make the game more interesting though because it means i have less money to rely on and i have to think harder about what to spend on. anyway, my point is, you sound like an angry 5 year old screaming at me to change my opinion for some obtuse reason, and you dont seem to realize that you are looking in a mirror and are actually mad at yourself for your inability to play games how you want to play them. or maybe you are just a 5 year old idk i'm not omniscient.

  • Please explain, why is mob health mods bad? I don't get it, it's really really nice, its super satisfying to see the health bar go down and I don't see how it makes the game easier. Edit: Just played without mob health mods, holy crap its so different and combat is a lot scarier, never gonna use mob health mobs again(although Il still use Epic health bars because boss health bars are cool).

    • Mob health could be considered cheating because, in my opinion, not seeing the health tick down keeps you on your toes, and makes the fights a bit more interesting given most mobs are easy to fight. The case could be made it also lets you know when to go for the extra hit to finish off an enemy like giants or tentacles too, but personally I just don't like knowing, I'd rather be excited to see whenever what I'm fighting goes down then know for sure. But that kind of boredom doesn't take until you have played a long time. It's why Rick says to play that way, it's how he plays because he's played for so long, and his guides are meant to teach you how to play well, but also how to play like him.
