Lyrics
I can see you in the morning when you go to school
Don't forget your books, you know you've gotta learn the golden rule
Teacher tells you stop your playing and get on with your work
And be like Johnnie-Too-Good, don't you know he never shirks
He's coming along
After school is over, you're playing in the park
But don't be out too late, don't let it get too dark
They tell you not to hang around and learn what life's about
And grow up just like them, won't let you work it out
And you're full of doubt
Don't do this and don't do that
What are they trying to do? (Make a good boy of you)
And do they know where it's at?
But don't criticize, they're old and wise
Do as they tell you to, don't want the devil to
Come and put out your eyes
The piano solo is one of the greatest solo in the rock history , but of course the whole song is amazing .
I must agree
The drums are amazing too
@@hmz_amkcompany Yes, all band members were amazing .
Everything Roger hodgson does is amazing.
@@applesfuturistic In my book the Supertramp was amazing , I'm not Roger's purist ( "everything he does amazing' ..every amazing musician has average songs of course , just listen to Roger's Hai Hai album per example) ...do not forget that this song was a collaboration between Roger and Rick. The harmonica part , some idea, and the full piano solo was composed by Rick. Yes. Roger was amazing ,but for me Rick is on the same level of geniality but 2 very different styles , voices , sounds . You can choose based on your own preference but both songwriters were amazing , the whole band was amazing.
Great song brings back memories I was 17 now 65 still listening
Me too
Ditto... 😎
My favorite Super Tramp song. I'm 62. Sounded Awesome at Alpine Valley in 79. ✌
First album I bought for the first sound system I bought with my first job at 16... :)
Me too
My dad used to play this in the car on the way to school. He died when I was 20. I was old enough to have had a load of arguments with him in my teens but not old enough to have made amends later. I guess now all I have are his favourite songs, such as this :(
everybody regrets ,but we still love ,mostly, you still love your dad.Awesome
All will be well.
Tu me fais pitié
God’s blessings for you
Even though it was hard at times, he probably wanted the best for you and left you with great music that's been instrumental for a lot of people of different generations and influential to so many.
From about 2:15 on, the transition from guitar to keyboards then drums and piano is incredible. Every time I hear it , I time travel...1974, I'm in the backseat of my family car, a Chevy Chevelle sitting next to everyone I loved at the ripe old age of 9.
Really great comment, Brother!
@@D-FensDogG Thanks man! Appreciate that you feel it too.
Agree. Great times and music back then . Music like this have no expiry date my friend cheers .
Indeed
That transition is so cool…. I can’t agree more… my fav Supertramp song is actually this song…..
Qu'est ce que j'ai pu danser sur ce titre en discothèque, j'avais alors 23ans, j'en ai 53 aujourd'hui et j'apprécie tjrs autant les Supertramp, nostalgie 😭😭😭❤❤❤❤❤❤
We don't go looking for old music , we look for the memories they carry with us and they have no expiry date cheers !!!!
Well put my friend....
@@ogrebattle22763 🍻
Great Perspective ... wore this LP out playing Frisbee on the asphalt road in front of my friends home. Heavy 165 g ...would sale several hundred feet... we got so good we would one rail it off the road... then 2 rail it off of light poles and parked cars.
You are right ! 😊
@@HaraldPuetz-gk1xy 🍻
One of the most genius songs ever.
I love the piano 🎹
Supertramps drummer is highly under-rated. So clean and sharp, yet jazzy. Reminds me of Yes's drummer; another amazing phenom
What an incredibly beautiful song. Such a talented group. 40 years later, and it still sounds as good as the first time I heard it.
September ‘74… #USA Release
One of the first pieces of vinyl I ever owned which came through the US mail from Columbia Record & Tape Club. 1977-78 I believe this was released in the early 70s, 1974-75
Agreed
I feel the same tooo
50 years later! It is trippy I know! School and Bloody well right go from happy into the deep, dark dive pretty quick and awesome.
one of the best groups that exist on earth. Thank you for being there
I grew up with Supertramp & still love their music ❤
Same here ❤ them
Me too and it used to be that you couldn't find it on KZhead
My all time favorite group in my teen years @@kgoss
Me too ! 😊
This album of Supertramp takes me right back into those days when I was a teenager. It's so good to listen to those songs after a very long time right here and now in 2023. Supertramp surely is not forgotten!
1974, i was sweet 16,love this song since them... 48 years left, where is all the time gone.....
I don't know friend... it keeps speeding up..
Best piano solo EVER!
This, and Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin absolutely tear my heart out. They are both a worm hole back to my youth. Timeless.
Bring me to tears every time
Me too ! 😊
One of the most incredible albums ever
This is one of the greatest album openers ever
Just a timeless masterpiece !!!!!
AND HOW AND MORE ITS JUST LOST THOUGHING 74 19YEARS OLD O HAPPY DAYS GONE BYE
Absolutely!

Just feel What's your Think It's all in your ❤️ heart
My dad introduced me to this song. Can’t wait to see him again in a couple weeks.
Bands like supertramp, Floyd even dire straits, music with a soul.for me anyway it feeds mine
Sounds so fresh and current even almost 50 years after. Amazing.
My dad used to love this song. That piano solo is absolutely beautiful!
I don't get into who's great or not thing for what it's worth. If you know anything about music, you know this album has set it's mark as one of the "Greatest Album of all Time"!!!
I think the best Supertramp cut ever
Me too.
Yes, they were cool then, before they got wimpy and went all commercial.
This song gave me an eerie feeling when I was young hearing this. Still does
Yes the entire album is very spooky.
Only one Word: masterpiece.
Le piano, j'aimerais qui s'arrête jamais 👏
moi aussi
Idem
O.O.G ! Was introduced to this song at a military site many years ago. Thanks Mr. R. and too many others. It was a freekin priv. to have served our Uncle Sam : ) R.I.P. Sgt Body & those 2 others : ( God dam the rip tides : /
Great atmospheric sounds. Tight bottom and of course great song writing and vocals. Rick's piano solo was inspired. Everything just comes together so well. Just a really good band hitting on all cylinders back then.
Yes. Try Bloody Well Right, from the same album.
I just cried listening to this.. this takes me right back to teenage summers...esp summer 2010.. I can't even imagine how someone who was actually a teen when this came out feels listening to it now
It feels like home. I would be so happy to transport back to the evolution of my childhood and teenage years from the 70's and 80's.
@@mclare71 💖
I just cried again lol
asockworkorange1958 As someone who was there when this came out let tell you it was freaking awesome. Were things "perfect" then .? No and some will say that we have progressed since then I'm not so sure about that.
1978 was a great year, so there was also a lot of good bands. Supertramp Santana Pink Floyd etc and then Dire Strait the list never stops.Caroline
Remember when songs were a soundscape of changing rhythms with lyrics that lead you into other people's lives played by talented multi instrumentalist? That means you're over 50. I genuinely feel sorry for kids now. They may have some brilliant new toys to play with, but that'll never wake up one day and hear songs that sound NOTHING like anything that's been played before. Crime of the century was an album full of those songs.
Born in 55 when music came alive I've listened to them all to capture the real brilliance of these awesome musicians you need to put on head phones to listen esp bloody well right my favourite is the masterpiece child of vision supertramp no gimmicks proper music by the best musicians to have walked the planet no arguments coming a close second best musicians are the moody blues you must lister to before you break on through to the other side Rodger Hodgson defo the best keyboard player of all time
I agree that Hodgson is great keyboard player , and guitarist also but do not forget that both piano solos ( Child of Vision and School ) were played and written by Rick Davies.
This what music should be. No gimmicks just pure story telling. There will never ever be music like this again. 🇨🇦
One of my favorite Supertramp 🎸songs for sure,I have a nice copy of Crime of the century on vinyl. I once read somewhere that this album was recorded in a barn in Scotland.👍
This album and RUSH live "All The World's A Stage" were my into to "prog" rock and a lifelong obsession with all music because of it.... Rock on!
Un autre chef d'œuvre de Supertramp. Ma tte petite enfance 😊😍
Among the best sounding albums there is.
Yeah, the production is ace.
In my humble opinion, this is the band’s magnum opus. Of the thousands upon thousands of secular songs that I’ve heard, maybe 20 or so truly and profoundly speak to my soul, and this one of those. 🎹
This song.... just throws me back in high school, wearing my Ditto's, Wallabee's and drawstring top. Hanging out after school in the parking lot with Supertramp blasting out of the popular kids truck until we were run off by school security. Best times & music of my life. 💙💙
I remember, walking across the quad at LSU, with this record under my arm, going to the library to listen to this! God what memories! Now I’m old, trying to still do the things I love, riding dirt bikes, getting more parts replaced, not the dirt bike, me, went paragliding yesterday, felt pretty close to the next thing, whatever that is. Came home, made a gin and tonic, thought about my dead wives, cried a bit, miss my damn dog, she’s gone too. But, this is life, sometimes so damn hurtful and sometimes so exquisitely beautiful. Well, enough reminiscing, time to go do something, what, I have no idea!
This always vividly takes me back to being a kid, it's summer time on a Sunday, the back door is open bringing in a subtle breeze, mum is cooking a lamb roast while this plays on the old Hi-fi system, my favourite Supertramp song
Isn’t it amazing that God gives us ability to only remember the good times in our past and not the bad. And music such as this is part of that thank you!
Yes indeed
I remember the bad times too but finding this album back then was one of the good times.
this tune holds up big time
Esto si q es Música...!!! Un temaso de mi época.....Desde Argentina Grande SUPERTRAMP!!!!
Probably the most creative song even written
Fantastic song. Brings back many memories.
It's a real masterpiece!!
This was my very first concert and I've seen hundreds of bands! Live music is the best!!
Genios idolos de mi vida!. Cómo se puede componer música tan buena. Con ese sonido! Me transportan a otra dimensión😮
Sometimes I listen to the old music that I grew up with hoping for disappointment, the music you can get enough of. The love is the words, and then I start to understand. Friends know thyself and those who ignore the message wake up on the other side.
my dad loved this song when he was 20 but now he is 60😃
Ye but it will be a lot better
THE BEST SONG EVER .
From the best album. Full stop
I saw this tour at the Sudbury arena in 1976?? It was fantastic from start to finish .Just happened to be visiting a friend, never heard of them before so we all went Boy!We where so supprised! I've been a fan ever since!
I remember listening to this on someone's Cassette at the bus stop and going back home in 1976 before I quit school and took off to Houston to live in the Men's Athletic Dorms at Rice University. I knew Houston was where I would spend my life, the most beautiful men, cars and women in the world!
Never None of younger generación could dimensión and understand what that gold era had generated. You have to live in this and act what it demands.
The mid-70's saw two great bands emerging: Supertramp and Genesis! Two quite different groups, but with certain similarities, especially if you listen to some of the quieter songs. Crime of the Century really blew my mind when it was released and I just could not stop playing it! Magnificent, and still is!! 💯🎸🎤🎧🎹
Had this album but, back in 79, dad bought a new boat, had an 8 track, I was 14, played Breakfast in America NON-STOP... LOL!!! Had one of those 70's conversion vans also, 8 track, same sht, played it non stop... Love this band!!!
M a s t e r p i e c e 🎹
Timeless just timeless
My eyes, Impossible forget Supertramp. Puxa vida, impossível esquecer está doce banda. Parabéns.
My favourite Supertramp song, just beautiful
Great song & super great recordings, Supertramp was one of my favorite bands. 👍😎👍🎶😎🎶🎹🥁🎶🎶
O melhor solo de piano da história! School! Supertramp!
Saw them in Sydney around 76,77, smokin hash joints, and just chillaxing…..great memories!❤️
Story of my and many lives. 🙏🏻
I wasn't a big fan of this band, but this song with its piano solo is a real banger.
I love this song!!!
Was this '74? Well, great music certainly didn't die with The Beatles. Another lovely decade for music, hey?
This music is about my tean age period, ....the good time...with my friends at school. It's a very beautifull song made by a super team!
Never gets old, and I'm talking the entire catalog.
This is my neighbors favorite song! (as far as I know)
Agree, greatest piano solo ever
thank you
My brother gave me this music when I was around 14. I isolated in my room and listened what is considered harmful or problematic. I'm 59 and still do it and don't care.
Simplemente genial, los acordes , ritmo

A great song that seems to be mostly forgotten these days
I love this still and I first listened this when my older brother hey had a awesome stereo system and would blare this from his room! Good times!!!
Bought a Supertramp cassette at a little store in Kuta Beach, Bali, in 1978. Loved it then...still love it now
Te acordas Fernando,? Escuchando este tema a orillas P de los Funes???? Q bellos tiempos ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Such a amazing song! One of my favorites.
I first heard this song in 7th grade when I watched Forum That for the first time. Perhaps one of the greatest songs to snowboard to of all time!
One of the greatest band of all time!
