Lyrics
Hide in your shell, cos the world is out to bleed you for a ride
What will you gain making your life a little longer?
Heaven or hell, was the journey cold that gave you eyes of steel?
Shelter behind painting your mind and playing joker
Too frightening
To listen to a stranger
Too beautiful
To put your pride in danger
You're waiting for
Someone to understand you
But you've got demons in your closet
(You've got demons in your closet)
And you're screaming out to stop it
(And you're screaming out to stop it)
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you can scramble for
Don't let the tears linger on inside now
Cos it's sure time you gained control
If I can help you
If I can help you
If I can help you
Just let me know
Well, let me show you the nearest signpost
To get your heart back and on the road
If I can help you
If I can help you
If I can help you
Just let me know
All through the night as you lie awake and hold yourself so tight
What do you need, a second-hand movie-star to tend you?
I as a boy, I believed the saying the cure for pain was love
How would it be if you could see the world through my eyes?
Too frightening
The fire's becoming colder
Too beautiful
To think you're getting older
You're looking for
Someone to give an answer
But what you see is just illusion
(What you see is just illusion)
You're surrounded by confusion
(You're surrounded by confusion)
Saying life's begun to cheat you
Friends are out to beat you
Grab on to what you can scramble for
Don't let the tears linger on inside now
Cos it's sure time you gained control
If I can help you
If I can help you
If I can help you
Just let me know
Well, let me show you the nearest signpost
To get your heart back and on the road
If I can help you
If I can help you
If I can help you
Just let me know
I wanna know
I wanna know
I wanna know
Oh I've got to know
I wanna know you
I wanna know you
Well let me know you
I wanna feel you
Oh I wanna touch you
Please let me near you
Let me near you
Can you hear what I'm sayin'?
Well I'm hopin', I'm dreamin', I'm prayin'
I know what you're thinkin'
See what you're seein'
Never ever let yourself go
Hold yourself down
Hold yourself down
Why d'ya hold yourself down?
Why don't you listen? You can trust me
(So whatcha gonna take it to?)
Oh there's a place I know the way to
(So whatcha gonna make it do?)
A place there is no need to
(So what's he gonna)
To feel you
(So what's he gonna)
To feel that you are alone
(So what's he gonna do?)
I wanna feel you
(So whatcha gonna take it to?)
I know exactly what you're feelin'
(So whatcha gonna make it do?)
Cos all your troubles are within you
(So what's he gonna)
So begin to
(So what's he gonna)
See that I'm just bleeding too
(So what's he gonna do?)
Oh, love me, love you, loving is the way to
(So whatcha gonna take it to?)
Help me, help you
(So whatcha gonna make it do?)
Why must we be so cool?
(So what's he gonna)
Oh so cool
(So what's he gonna)
Oh, we're such damn fools
(So what's he gonna do?)
Without question it's one of the greatest songs of all time by any band or solo artist. ❤
One of the best songs in rock history - I listened to this iconic album at least one million times
I'm lost for words. All these years after first listening to this masterpiece it still sounds magnificent.
Heard this as a young teenager in mid 70’s and have listened to it decade after decade and still am in awe at its brilliance. Truly a masterpiece👏
Truly a masterpiece
Me too
Supertramp had some of the most honest lyrics!
A masterpiece music. WONDERFUL lyrics. Amazing song. I remember so much listening during my teenager times. Thank you Supertramp.
Such songwriting skill, such command of the instruments.. And there are so many more songs to discover by Supertramp..
My girlfriend bought me this album in a cassette for my car and I played it relentlessly. It was the first thing she ever bought me. We have our 40th wedding anniversary very soon.
That's beautiful my friend I'm so happy love still exists
❤
That's beautiful 😍 💕
Que recuerdos es alucinante la abre escuchado más de 1000 veces y con 60 años que tengo todavía me pone los pelos de punta empecé a escucharla a los 14 años y todavía me emociona que grande supertramp
Thanks for reminding me how I only got 11 years with my spouse buddy. I am so sick and tired of hearing people brag about their 20 to 40 years with their spouses. Yes I am very bitter about it. God is EVIL and cruel! This is how unfair my whole entire life has ever been. I have lost everything that ever meant anything to me!
I heard it first in 1978 and it touched my soul forever.
alright that is pure genius
Mine to.
❤ I had the record album lol Man we're Old We used to stare at the cover Art 😉
One of the best songs ever written
they where GREAT
Not one off . The only one made me have so much emotions . When the sound can moove you 40 years ago at your freedoms moments in my first car .some heavy tears come and all instrumentation details made me in heaven
Crime of the Century blew my mind when it was released! I'm 68 now and still love it, and especially this song! Yes, Roger, you could help me with this magnificent song!! 💯🎸🎤🎧🎹
this album is the greatest masterpiece of supertramps history
Fabulous from start to finish. A treasured classic !
I put this right beside debut self titled Boston as a perfect album start to finish
This is my favorite album.
Agreed. Better than Breakfast!
Hey John you said it perfectly I think it's the best album ever at that time period 😢😢❤❤❤😮😮
s a victim of 1960's kids home abuse when I first heard this song 30 yrs later..., the floodgates opened, and the healing process finally begun. £0 0d years later I was strong enough to help another. Thankyou S8upertramp!
beautiful
There is as much beauty as there is uglyness. We need to keep pushing. Destruction yields nothing.
YOU SPELT SUPERTRAMP WRONG.
Theme song for abused kids from the 70s
this album is the ultimate masterpiece of supertramps history
One of the most amazing tunes of supertramp. I had to hide in my shell from abuse and this song has protected me all my life
I hope you emerged a better person with resilience
@@sleepyexcitedbitch I hear ya
@@slyspy9819 no?
@@sleepyexcitedbitch I'm sorry to hear that , no one deserves abuse and if you can seek help because it's out there only when you're ready. When my life was a living hell because of my own doing I thought when will it end? I wanted more for myself and said there's got to be better than this . I decided to listen to others and take a moment each night and say a prayer and talk to God with sincerity and asked for the misery to end. You may find a little solace in this and maybe just maybe things will start to change for you .
@@slyspy9819 okay
crime is the greatest production of supertramps history a true genius timeless masterpiece
Bless you Rodger Hodgson you make me feel that I'm not alone. You have a big heart my man.
No matter if at 62 yo,I'm always hidind in my shell. I have two sons, I live my life. But with this song, maybe I will get out.... To see if love, peace and understanding are back at last. 5 stars song indeed !!!!
This, my friends, is classic rock and roll. Absolutely perfect!
This song is like a good old friend to me, it was there in rough times. I love it!
Best song ever written. Let's not kid ourselves.
Their best song? Not the #1 catchiest, but their best combination of catchiness and a lyric with emotional punch.
That "So what you gonna do?" always hits me hard...
"It's sure time you gained control " Just too many good lines,,
This song brings back so many good memories for me from my high school days back in the late 70’s. Love Supertramp!❤
Crime of the Century....awesome album.
Their best, easily.
My favorite Supertramp song. 🙂
pareil
😄
For me it's this one and Babaji
I agree!!! Mine too!!!
Mine 2
I bought this when it came out back in 74 and I still play it today ....now that's staying power !
Did it "really come out in the 70s. Or do you mean 84😀
@@robnorman7305 Hi Rob , This was the 70's no doubt because they toured and I was lucky enough to see them at Boston's famed Orpheum Theater in April of 75 . They did the whole Crime of the Century Album , I was a sophomore in high school
Same here. Still have the original vinyl I bought in the 70’s. Because of this song.
Stopped wearing out the original 1970s vinyl now bit too crackly. Big disappointment when the concert at uni was cancelled in 74. Had an original poster but it got lost somewhere in the distant past.
Absolutely stunning production, and the sound some of these bands in the 70s created is just wow!
I agree 70’s analog production values, though lacking in compression and auto tune (both of which I hate) could be and often were truly excellent. Think Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons and 10cc. Just a joy to listen to.
💯 %
My second oldest brother was moving out of the house for the second time. He gave me a double cassette deck and a SUPERTRAMP album along with a new band called QUEEN. What gifts!! Thanks Terry.
It was probably “A night at the Opera “ classic ; what amazing gifts were you given.
I got to see this great band from orchestra seat tickets way back in the day. Wonderful. This song, somehow, got me through a very hard young life. Now, as an old man, on one of the worst days of my life, it has helped again. Thank you.
Roger Hodgson, un génie.
I agree.
This is actually one of my favourite albums ever it’s so goood
This song is one of the best rock songs of all time. Every song on the album (Crime of the Century) was great and personal to everyone at the same time.
A stunning track from a stunning and much underrated band.
Perhaps my Supertramp's favorite song!!!
I love the build up towards the end from 4.50 ❤
This song is absolutely sensational - especially the explosion of sound at 5min 41s!!!
Great great ending!! I wish the Saxophone would go on another 2 minutes atleast. Incredible!
When one realizes , that this whole album.. is the story of one man' s life... and the 2 main voices are him.. and his sub-conscious.. ( this song).. and the duelling and troubles they go through in life... It makes this masterpiece of music.... into a MASTERPIECE OF MUSIC. Long before PF's The Wall.. this is the first chronological album... and it is absolutely breath taking. This particular song.. makes me weep..... as the sub conscious is trying to " convince" his master.. of the choices in life.... Amazing stuff.
What you have said is very interesting as I have listened to the album hundreds of times but never made the link as I do not listen to lyrics but the music. This is an insanely good song and as a drummer myself what the Supertramp drummer does is very unusual. Many of their songs do not have groves like most music. To me this makes it incredibly interesting. Cheers.
You just blew my mind
Surely "Days of Future Passed" (1967) by the Moody Blues is an earlier "chronological album" , taking the listener from "The Day Begins" via (amongst many other tracks) "Lunch Break: Peak Hour" and "Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)" to the famous "Nights in White Satin" ... (Both are wonderful albums, of course.)
Actually surely the FIRST chronological album, based on the Riddle of the Sphinx, was Days of Future Passed by the Moody Blues? Released in that MOST important year in music 1967 - Days, Sgt. Pepper's, Pink Floyd, Status Quo, Deep Purple etc. etc. ALL in one year!
Wow! Thank you for the explanation 🙏♥️
Great tune❤ and the Logical Song also was my favourite 😊
Glad to see so many people still loving this misuc...and the lyrics...oh my...the lyrics are full of meaming and hope, we need all this in these troubled days.
One of my favorite songs growing up
I wore out my record player with this song back in the day. Now 45 years later, I still know the lyrics.
I don't think I've ever heard a more perfect and beautiful chorus. The variant at the end, with the sax coming in is just magnificent. Wow.
That's my favorite part too Chris. Love it
I wish the Sax would go on another minute lol. It replicates the song perfectly 🎷
@@kenkamerer1081I thought i was the only one who wished they made a longer solo on the sax… such a shame since all their songs featuring sax go on for a while.
Reminds me of being a teen..This was my song which summed up my teenage angst.
Me too!
Reminds me too. π•
Yes when I was 19 I listened to this song on loop
Loved this song over 40 years. Today I saw the beautiful perspective of it; a “prodigal son” story of potential redemption through communal & especially personal bonding.
These guys were one of my first concerts. Was in the arena in Sudbury, Ontario. The opening act was Chris de Burg. Cost me about 12 dollars or so.
One of their best
Good advice from a good friend. Saying perhaps, " You've got to help yourself a bit"
Timeless song, Timeless band.
Didn't have any older siblings but my friends on the block did and this is what was playing in their bdrms when the door would fling open n we were told " get out here ya lil brats " ..thanks for the introduction to the best decade of R& R, the high-water mark without a doubt.
I can relate to this song due to my depression, suicidal thoughts and the way my family treats me at times. It is like someone (the person singing) cares and reaches out his hand for me to take. My theme song is Nik Kershaw's Wouldn't It Be Good. Your friends are out to beat you, for me is your family and the beat you is for the words and how they use them to defeat you and make you feel worthless. There are three other songs by Supertramp that i can relate to too and they are Lord Is It Mine, It's Raining Again and Know Who You Are.
I was 10 when I first heard this. And how powerful this song was for me..and now at almost 40 my heart aches for society and the youth of today. In such need for the deep guidance of love's introspection.
Little children held hands, while walking to Switzerland after World War II - ON FOOT - from most European countries which lay in ruin - - THINK ABOUT THAT - the children were acting on the Red Cross promise to unite these little ones with their Mothers and Fathers. The parents could of course be DEAD. This was not some prediction of a nasty future, this was here and now. You see, if those tiny lives could take that responsibility with such nobility and heroism, then this lot of victim-minded moderns can learn to ... overcome. They gaze at their own pain. Futile. And so much pretense. There's too much cosseting. Life's harsh reality is always the SAME. But we think we can change it with words. With slogans. No. The human being must grow by doing. Anyway, kick some butt ...
@@BlueBeeThemeMusic Well said !!
Wasn't it wonderful when kids heard an album like this playing out loud from garages, parked cars, dorms.... songs packed with care and soul. You could hear it even without most of the lyrics.
One of my favorite Songs! ♥️ (*1974)
Makes me cry. Just so moving with raw emotion.
Incredible masterpiece.
Beatles, Supertramp, that's me....
My older sisters and my dad listened to some really good music growing up .
And your name is Chris.
I've definitely felt like this before, I find this song very therapeutic.
One of their most precious gem.
Master piece !!! I love all the music of Supertramp and some makes your heart skip a beat.
Es la mejor canción de Supertramp
I know that Supertramp were one of princess Dianas favourite-bands ….I just imagine her listening to this song and finding solace …..it could have been written for her …..RIP 😅😅😅
the ultimate classic masterpiece
This is a little symphonic part by part work - so operatic in emotions - these gents music will live forever. And it is so bloody deserved.
The musical talent and synergy of these guys is just beautiful, godly!
This is my favourite Supertramp's song, but my favourite album still is Breakfast in America (1979).
@Igor Maxwel I could not have said it any better myself, and I totally agree !!!
@@farristolesome4419 Thanks from my heart, friend!
I enthusiastically join you, adding only "A Soapbox Opera"!
@@matildah7374 "Soapbox Opera" is another good song, is from Crisis? What Crisis? (1975), the "Black sheep" from Supertramp's classic period (1974-1982).

Best Supertramp album!

timeless masterpiece
Awesomeness at its best! Thank you for sharing. ❤️🎶🌎🌍
I can't help it this song is so relatable to me it gets me all weepy.
Such a beautiful song ❤
What makes Bob C. Benberg's drumming so damn good: "I was always in pursuit of being creative and solid. My job was to provide a steady but interesting backbone. If it didn’t need a fill, don’t do one; the transition setups could be served by just an extra bass drum kick or flick of a stick. If it needed a fill, make it count. Make it meaningful and keep the pulse seamless." (From an interview in Modern Drummer magazine)
Magique, envoutant, sublime, extraordinaire, à ranger dans les plus grandes chansons du rock.
Beatiful Song.
Brilliant, on many levels
Supertramp. A soundtrack from my youth.
Mine also..brilliant group.
Hide in Your Shell is the Best Song in the Music-History,Absolut Number 0ne.The Carpet Crawlers Number 2,and Comfortable Numb....Number 3!!!
A truly great song, powerful and emotional.
You have music taste if you hear Supertramp!
Beautiful melody, always felt! As well as Rick did lots, Roger is also embodying the incisiveness of enlightened intelligent teenage cynicism , but with that emotion-laden, plaintive, sincere passionate emotion: 'never ever let yourself go!...Why don't you listen?!, you can Trust me! There's a place I know the way to '.....Such a beautiful, expressive voice. Such a Soulful Human! Bravo Roger!

With Supertramp it's not listening to music, it's going on a journey.
Hits me at my core. Truly a beautiful song.
It's a shame that the only ones who are truly moved by this music are online. I guess we're all in our shells and can only express our true insecurities and feelings from anonymity, pity.............
i bought this album when it first came out in 74 , i had over 300 albums at one stage , i was a huge bowie fan as well but of all the albums albums i had this was always my favorite , so underated and i had stuff life " dark side of the moon " ect.
This is simple the definition of music
My favorite Supertramp song and probably my favorite song ever! this song speaks a lot about me =(
Whenever I had a girl over my place, I'd play this album, hoping she'd think I was sophisticated and sensitive.
No other band has been like then
This album through my dads B & O sterogram was just sublime. Totally timeless.
If I can feel you pls let me know !!!!! Marvellous
Fantastic song, and absolutely digging the musical saw.
Me too, it blows my mind everytime I hear it. I know some people think it's a theramin or synthesizer, but it's a SAW! The kind you cut wood with! Head exploding!! Also the sax at the end is great.
The first album I ever bought.
Awesome band. Saw them in Vancouver in the 80's. So so great.
Hummmmmm, so good. Quel plaisir, Nostalgie for ever......😍
A Super banda maravilhosa.
