Brembo Brake Caliper Restoration & Seal replacement - Mitsubishi Evo Tommi Makinen Edition

I restored the brembo brakes from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6.5 Tommi Makinen Edition. The old paint was removed by blasting with garnet media, the caliper's seals get replaced and the calipers were painted before new stickers are applied. Genuine OEM Brembo parts and seals kit were used.

I know sometimes my videos are very basic but hopefully they will help some people. I also like to document what I do to the car with video while trying to be creative. Most of the time I do everything here myself which is a big job and its hard to remember everything, But I shoot most of this stuff with my old iPhone and sometimes my old GoPro. The "Pieces to Camera" I film with my Canon 5D so I don't use a proper video camera at all. Although I would love to get a SONY FX3 some day and a Gimbal too which will open up a lot of creative shots in future videos.

  • Brilliant work mate.. The factory paint... or really the clear coat was awful. After 18+ years of my ownership.. it was simple servicing that killed the coating on my calipers...They were still red... not what is known as brownbros....lol I eventually got a professional guy to do mine (Cos I'm Lazy and had open Heart Surgery) after ( prior 4 years..) another set for my Legnum, I removed had soda blasted and then... resprayed myself... They came up perfect... pro job on the TME even more so.... Your's OMFG... wait Steven... they are just Brakes... they don't need to be perfe.............. Pure froth .... epic... Awesome vid mate... subbed...

    • Cheers Steve. Thanks mate. I’ve done a few caliper resprays before but this was the first one using 2k paint of the correct colour. It makes a huge difference having nice brakes. Everything is important.

    • @@UzumakiGarage mate Glad you've done the vid... The attention to detail shows. They really make the car look so much better... we're lucky nowadays as coatings have such better performance than 20 odd years ago...

  • Love your work! Did you replace the pistons along with seals? Thinking of doing this myself

    @kezzaj696@kezzaj6962 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks Kezza. No the pistons were still in perfect condition. I guess they're protected by the dust seals and submerged in brake fluid. Perhaps if the brake fluid hasn't been changed enough and has absorbed too much moisture from the atmosphere maybe they can corrode and get pitted. not sure. maybe they 're coating prevents that but I have noticed really old cars sometimes have seized pistons in the calipers.

  • Great job. I've folks use brake fluid in rhe piston assembly as well, is that okay? The OE seal kit for the front Brembo's is over $100 in the US, but found aftermarket ones much cheaper, just not sure they'll come with the assembly lube.

    @shautohaus@shautohaus3 ай бұрын
    • I would think brake fluid would be fine to use but assembly fluid is nice and slippery so i think it just makes the job a bit easier.

  • What rotors did you use?

    @jasond825@jasond825 Жыл бұрын
    • I used DBA 4000 rotors to retain the OEM look but to get better cooling.
