Captain Courage : A Woman's Truimph at Paro Airport's Risky Runway | World's Most Dangerous Airport
Here is the video of Paro approach flown by Bhutan’s first female pilot/Captain from Drukair, Royal Bhutan Airlines. The video takes you over head Paro airport before making U-Turn for runway 15 landing.
The crew encounters rain on arrival which makes it even more challenging for the crew to land.
Beautiful landing executed by the Captain at the end.
About Paro airport:
Paro airport is considered as one of the most challenging airport in the world for the commercial jetliners to land.
The airport is located at an altitude of 7364 feet above mean sea level with runway elevation of 7362 feet and 7310 feet respectively for runway 15 and runway 33.
The runway length is 7431 feet ( 2265 meters) and width is about 30 meters which just covers the minimum runway width required by ICAO. ( one factor why Paro is considered one of the most challenging runway to land for the pilots)
Note: All Airbus aircraft are developed based on 45 m wide runways because it reflects the most frequently used runways by Airbus aircraft.
All flight and simulator certification tests linked to directional control on ground are performed on 45 m wide runways.
Her gender has nothing to do with it. She's just another well trained pilot with nerves of steel!
Well Trained, and has made this landing before,(I would guess). And absolutely doesn’t matter which sex is at the controls. If she wasn’t properly trained as well as had the experience, she would’ve been in either seat.
1:05 you missed the vodca in the water bottle 😂😂
And she paid how much for this?
Would you object if it said “well trained man”?
Full professional perfomance
Probably the best execution of this challenging approach I’ve seen on KZhead.
👍
Nothing can shake up that crew! PIC looked totally unfazed by the whole thing. Beautiful display of professionalism.
Beautiful Flying and the Lady Captain Looks so calm and Composed!! Best Wishes from Canada!!!
What a fabulous video. That girl must have nerves of steel. Well done lass.
High terrain, inclement wx, and look at how relax she is while doing the job... just-another-day-a-the-office like stuff. Simply superb
Sterile cockpit below 10k? She did a good job but looked like a bit of talk not about the approach
@@barry4666 Come on... Never ever been "flexible" with that rule... ever ?
@@barry4666 You know what....I wasn't going to say anything, but since you pointed it out, yeah, I had the same thoughts too. But she still crushed it ✈️
@highcountry 2:23 autopilot comes off. No approach is made using autopilot into Paro
Because she’s flying an Airbus
That approach took my breath away. So much more for both pilots to do and be aware of. I can't even imagine learning an approach where, even on the best days, you will at the very least be straightening and leveling the plane until a second before you touch down. Kudos to both of them.
I was holding my breath from 1000feet until the end of the vidro. Just the turns would necessitate my wearing a diaper! Wow. They’re both so relaxed about it too. Very impressive!
So much pilotd
That’s what real pilots do
There aren’t any other flights, so they don’t have to worry about that!
The visibility was so poor that at the height of 100 m also there was no trace of any runway. Excellent and brave landing.
I used to dream to become a pilot but I end up being an aircraft mechanic... But still an amazing profession with amazing jobs... The fact is aviation is my passion...❤❤❤👊👊👊👍👍👍
Aviation pays diddly squat until you make captain in an international carrier. It's also boring--planes never leave Earth
One detail: autopilot OFF since 2:30 of the video. Fantastic
She was staying frosty all through. Surely a pleasure to fly with her. Safe flights and God speed. Regards
Wooowwwww! That was pure joy. Despite the age of equality, it shouldn't and doesn't matter the Captain was a woman but I cannot lie the sight of that tiny lady almost weighed down by the four fat gold stripes on her shoulder boards, operating the controls in a focused yet effortless and graceful way - and seeing the aircraft swoosh and bank at her behest - added an extra special blend of spice and piquancy to an already incredible clip!!!😀❤❤❤ My thanks to the people that brought us this marvellous sequence and of course to the Captain and her copilot....
Nice landing. Really impressive to watch the pilot flying get it lined up at such low altitude and with late turns required on final. Not a single wasted motion and few corrections.
I just came back from Bhutan, the landing at Paro really is something to experience. And Miss Ugyen Dema was in the cockpit for my flight.
Oh! What can I say? A brilliant, cool piece of effortless manual flying!!! She made it look so easy...a hallmark of the true professional!!
it wasnt manual. notice shes not moving a stirring wheel.
This is the best I've seen on the internet thus far. I can watch this over and over and over and over. I totally enjoyed that approach and landing she hand flew it like a boss
I agree 100%
She surely did. I am glad you enjoyed watching and so did I. Need a good share so that everybody sees this video.
This was a great display of well trained and competent pilots flying through inhospitable surroundings such as in Bhutan. This is in the ceiling of the world. They manoeuvre through these mountainous surrounds, with the associated weather changes that come with territory. And do it over and over again. I'm in awe of their skills and dedication to their jobs!
That’s their job to do that. I wouldn’t expect anything less from any driver.
There's only a select few Captains that are even allowed to land there. And only Captains can be certified, if I'm not mistaken.✈✈
@@Sterlingjob Yes but many an incompetent pilot has failed doing their ' job ' with inevitable consequences - failure here is not an option with very little margin for error; so EXCEPTIONAL skills, ike the ones shown here , that go beyond being a 'jobsworth' are needed!
@@Sterlingjob Because we all know all drivers are perfect? Cretin!
@@Sterlingjob ,r
Badassery personified! Wow! Madam Captain Rocks!
This is just amazing how much skill, experience and pure intution it must take! By far from any aerial maneuvers including low altitude mach loops, carrier landings this is on par or above given the responsiblity involved in delivering hundreds of passengers safely to a destination. Standing ovations!
NOT seeing where the runway is until right before landing made this even MORE scarier to watch. Getting over that first mountain range and then almost diving to land made this even more impressive to watch with their piloting skills. OMG!! Bravo to them!!!
All times guided landing, no worry, except for any emergency.
@@michaelrmarak5597 You are MUCH braver than me! I do NOT have the nerves of steel to be a pilot and I salute YOU and all other pilots. My late cousin, Jimmy, was also a pilot and flew for Northwest Airlines for many years and my cousin's husband is still a pilot and flies for Delta Airlines.
@@DougCeleste "Trust in God, you will increase; trust in His prophet you will prosper". Trust in God while flying. Prayer makes difference.

I'm a confident flyer but that had me on the edge of my seat. Superb piloting.
Hard to describe as the video does it all, so calm and an amazing crew what aviators. Absolutely incredible approach and she stuck the landing. Getting that drink to keep her mouth from drying, just amazing.
Couldn't agree more!
Even though I know they’re going to land safely, I still tense up watching videos of such difficult approaches. 😮 I couldn’t even see the runway until the 200’ warning! Very impressive piloting!
That was an example of a brilliant pilot landing in crazy difficult terrain!👏👍
I’ve been a passenger several times on takeoff and landing at Paros and never had anything but perfection on landing and takeoff. Testament to the excellence of the flight crew.
The turns right in the final - wow great flying skills needed
She absolutely rocks it!!👍Awesome (fyi, have a look at the terrain map on the f/o’s ND, terrifying😂 and with the inclement weather too, super job)
The terrain map was the one with all the red, right?
@@trigonzobob yes that’s correct.
@@FlyingDragonCaptain Thanks. I'm not a pilot, so I wasn't sure. That was some amazing navigation through terrain, even with the radar. Major props to the captain!
Bravo for this women it's realy amazing , this the réal training to bécame réally pilot in this conditions !!! wow !!!!
I was a passenger on that flight! Thanks dear pilot for the safe landing. Hopefully next time I fly from Paro you will be my pilot again!!!❤
Congratulation for such professionals!

@Rob's Videos for Fun, is Paro Orly in Paris, France? like ORD is Chicago's O'Hare
Wow! I'm very impressed with both pilots. "Professional" doesn't quite go far enough. They look like they could handle anything. Fine flying.
This is one of the few airports where I'd probably clap after landing. That was some great flying!
Hats off to both.. it was indeed a scary turn.. i skipped a beat!!
WOW! Commercial jet 35 degree turns with terrain and weather -- and nailed the landing. So very impressive.
very very good avionics.
How could you tell about the tricky terrain and the sharp turns the pilot had to make and I think someone else said you need a special liscense to land at this airport. Someone please tell me where this Airport terminal is at State and Country please. Also please tell me how one could tell about the terrain just from watching this video.😀
Exception flying skills in this very difficult approach and increment weather. Her coolness and experience is so evident here. Truly awesome! Have watched this multiple times just to adapt to my MSFS flight.
Haha yes I’ve learnt from their pilots too how to adapt my approaches and departures out of Paro. It is so exciting!!
Same lol - had a few nasty accidents here
A brave lady Pilot. Because Paro airpot is surrounded by Himalay mountain. Only day time landing & takeoff allowed at that airport.
Outstanding display of Air(woman)manship Very well done. Only the Best of the Best can perform like this in these conditions
Just another day of work for her. Fantastic job..! ✈ women power. God Bless. 💃😊
Wow! For a minute there I thought I was watching Top Gun Maverick. Awesome job! Watched it over and over.
This approach is probably the most challenging in the world with the Captain only allowed to land the aircraft. Fantastic to a woman in the left hand seat doing such a great job 👍
@Andrew Flyer Why even say she is a woman and not say pilot? Sexist comment. (There are a lot of female pilots in the world, you dodo).
Loved touching the instrument panel cover…feeling the plane
Thank you for showing us such a brave approach from inside the cockpit. To get a view of all the performance factors like the speed and descent profile was enlightening! Paro will always be my favourite!
Now that is some amazing piloting skills! My hats off to her and the entire crew working in such dangerous and mountainous territory like the Himalaya's! KUDOS!!!
This airport requires special pilot certificación to land here, is a true challenge to those who dare, Her skills and self-confidence make her an amazing pilot! Amazing landing!
@highcountry This aircraft has a side-stick control column. She was flying it with her left hand... out of sight of the camera. Definitely NOT a computer landing.
@highcountry That may be true in Amurrica, but (this may come as a shock) the rest of the world is not always like the good ole U S of A. Landing at this airport is different. Only a handful of pilots are qualified to land a passenger jet there. Sure, computers play a large part in operating the systems of any modern passenger jet, but landing here requires exceptional flying skills. However, I do understand why pilots don''t like the degree to which computers have taken over.... especially if they are flying Boeing 737s, although with them the problems seem to be mainly just after take-off.... if you see what I mean... y'all. You got something against female pilots by any chance?
I'm glad I learned to fly in the nasty weather and winds of Oregon with all our small mountain landing strips. it steels your nerves. you either do it or you give up.
@highcountry lol
What Country is this located in? Or should I say what state? If in the USA, If not then where?
Perfect harmony between human and machine. Well executed approach madam, worthy of a chief pilot of any airline.
Good bless this skilled female pilot do this work.. Amazing work
Simply amazing. And one so adept, calm and fully focussed. And sooo..good looking. !! Cheers Dr Terrence Jayatilaka
Many thanks!
6:22 to 6:30. GPWS going bonkers. Amazing how she holds it at 200 ft still in a bank, continues descending while simultaneously stabilizing, lining up with Center line and from 100 ft, glides down to a touch down. About time too. I was holding my breath from the 500 ft callout. 😂
THAT was SO intense. The skill they showed on such a difficult approach, I kept saying WHERE'S the bloody runway. Respects captain.
Capt. You are Amazing! Greetings from Canada.
That is one more crazy incredible approach which was carried out exceptionally! There is something about a female pilot that is so empowering but beautiful to watch!!! Great job to both pilots!
Lady, you are a credit to your profession!
That is my video of the month ! Having watched Paro-videos with nice weather, this was an adventure just to sit and to watch. Thanks for every minute and thanks for nu music. Just the thing pure. Long time I wondered why they take this dangerous route to land, but recently I had had the chance to fly in an airliner-simulator where the instructor showed me that you can´t make steep finals like small propellered aircrafts I use to fly. Airliners need to reduce speed and height softly an so this approaching route is a must.
True
Great job done by these pilots! Kudos to their confidence and flying skills! They made a difficult job look easy. Bravo!
I caught a hint of smile when she glanced at the copilot after touchdown. It's fun every time😀
So proud of the lady Pilot 🌹 God bless her 🌹
She did a great job! I have seen other aproaches here on clear days and they are still always a challenge. I thought they would only schedule flights on clear weather VFR days only for this airport. The clouds or fog must have come in at the last minutes. Great job Captain!!!
I love watching people who are experts at what they do.
Pilot and co-pilot displayed calmness, coolness, and experience. Outstanding video.
Amazing skills. Every pilot loves a challenge. Getting the plane on any runway safely is the main thing. Well done.
Extraordinary! She can fly anything in any condition. As harrowing as that may be for the passengers, they are in awesome hands!
Amazing female captain pilot with great courage and experience to land in such a challenging terrain area with bad weather condition. I salute her.
Bravo, truly exceptional flying. At 300 ft. her right wing was much lower to the mountain rising on her right, which is why she had to make that slight left deflection. Nice.
Wow! I have the greatest respect for these highly talented pilots! Not many at all can fly into this airport! Respect and hats off to these special skilled ones who do this!
I like how they hae a stamp of a deity just below the backup artificial horizon... for extra added blessings on those approaches :)
Man, she is flying it like it is a Cessna. Big respect.
Hi Joe! How do we know that it is the captain flying the plane and not the first officer? I am not pilot, and just curious to know what hints to that, since we don't see who's holding the stick.
@@viavelum How do we know FO identifies himself as a man?
@@joeber3869 We don't. 😂But who were you referring to with "she"?
@@viavelum She has her hand on the throttle...
@@viavelum it's a captain only airport, normally only experienced captains with a special training are allowed to fly here. So it can't be the fo who is, by looking at his stripe ,a cadet /fresh starter pilot. Also if you look closely you can see her hand on the throttle in the middle of them...
With that visibility manually flying this approach is breathtaking! Kudos for that female Captain!
ZIRO VISIBILITY, mountains everywhere !!!! Totally INSANE !!!!
WOW unbelievable most of this is hand flying in rain with flight directors off totally visual approach so so so close to the terrain ... whew !!! that is well well done 🙏🙏
Have flown into Paro twice as a passenger on Druk Air and can attest it’s a very interesting experience. Fly in, out and around several mountain peaks before runway comes into view at last possible minute.
She made it look so effortless. It’s crazy.
Wow👌She captain nailed the landing👍
Wow, in between the mountains, in the rain, and no telling what kind of turbulence. Great job!
She needs loads of medals of accolades for her skills. Truly an amazing woman who knows exactly how to perform her job.
Any pilot can do that, the displays in the cockpit help with navigation so she will know where the runway is. If she really can’t see, if it’s possible, she can fly an ils approach.
good job captain ..in this " special " airport ...fly safe ..😉🤙✈
No one should ever again doubt the abilities of female pilots. Well done.
No one ever did doubt the abilities of female pilots. Female drivers in big-ass SUV's on the their cell phones?....that's a whole different topic for debate
no one doubted anyone
No one should ever again doubt the abilities of pilots
No one ever did.
what a stupid comment
My highest respect! Landing under such weather conditions (light rain) makes it even more challenging. The approach is visual only. When the plane is finally aligned it is only 600 ft from the threshold. There is no margin for error! Maybe it's good that most passengers aren't aware that at some points the distance to terrain ia not more than 200 ft at a speed of 180 knots...
There is one video of passengers screaming lol. Same rwy 15 approach. This was such a good landing, even tho the flare was a bit floaty, and always noticed they retard the levels bit late in Paro
Hats off... she deserves every prayer of great health and long life... A320... no joke.. lives depend on the decisions she makes.
she was piloting manually right and left until the craft landed, great job appreciated
I’m in love Captain 👩✈️! Absolutely amazing and superb maneuvering, relax 😎 all the way . Thanks 🙏
She really greased it! Great job Captain!
The pilot is like....ezzzzz peazzzzzz! Well done...
Wow! Perfect approach and landing! Like a Boss!
Holy crap.. High terrain, bad weather, hard place.. Nice job 👍
Respect to both pilots!!!
tashi delek... I love the windshield wipers... I used to have an old truck with wipers like that
tashi delek... all is well great landing, mon capitán
It was like the plaine was dancing through the mountains, through the sky .... beautiful ...
Wow. That really is nuts! 😮 Hats off to these skilled pilots.
Those last 60 seconds - fantastic
That's cool she takes a sip of water while preparing to land, no pressure, she's landed many, many times before
High altitude airport, short wet runway, autobrakes are set to low and she puts it right on the 1000ft marker. I think I'm in love.
Flew this in the full motion simulator a couple of times. Even there, it will get your attention. The single engine go-around is fun too. Great job, Crew!
They make it look so easy amazing job.

UNBELIEVABLE AND AMAZING. I admire pilots regardless but these 2 were so cool calm and collected. And the female captain was awesome. Such relaxed chilled and in control attitude. Super Confident display. Big kudos 👏 💐 🥳 🎊
What an approach for line training...hahaha! Hats off to them! Many safe landings!
iam just impressed, not by the fact the pilot is female. just the skill required and the chill she has is also impressive. great job maam
