Hyenas Savagely Kill Buffalo Calf; Lions Attack || Masai Mara || Wild Extracts

2020 ж. 22 Мау.

In a case of reversed roles, the hyena kills, the lion feeds on the carcass.
Hyenas are known to be scavengers but every now and then they have to hunt and kill their own prey. Our wild extract today is on those days when hyenas are hunting and we witness a rather savage kill where the hyenas attack a buffalo calf as it tries to flee. In their power of numbers, they all try to get a piece, even dragging out its intestines until they overpower it. However, just when the hyenas kill the calf, the King of the Jungle arrives and the hyenas have to leave their meal to the lions

Look in KZhead how they eat warhogs alive , babyelephant, giraffe and hippo . Dead not always comes fast . Poor way to die . Africa don't show mercy to weakness and It's a struggle to survive each minute of the day/night

      @doktorhyena@doktorhyena3 жыл бұрын
    • @@doktorhyena Both lions and hyenas kill most of their own food (above 50% at minimum, usually above 80%). Relying on scavenging (including stealing kills) just isn't energetically viable for a flightless vertebrate, especially a large one. Dead animals/kills of other predators are NOT a reliably available resource; the vastly increased search time and search effort nullifies any advantage of not having to make the kill. There's a reason vultures are the only vertebrates today that actually rely on scavenging (other vertebrates commonly called "scavengers" are actually predators or generalized omnivores). As terrestrial soaring vertebrates they can cut down on search time and search effort in a way marine, active-flying, or flightless vertebrates cannot.
