A collection of "back to the camera" shots. The character stands center frame (most of the time), looking out at some epic landscape.

The craziest part of this video is that someone remembered all these shots and was able to go through the movies and collect them all. True talent!
I love how every scene brings on a different story, the chills.
8 years later and this is still one of the best videos on youtube
Every time i see this montage i have goosebums
The epiloque of The Duellists (1977) by Ridley Scott deserved a place in this "back to the camera" collection.
The greatest supercut that has ever or will ever be made.
my heart did a flip when rose tylers back made an appearance:)
This montage is one of the best things I've ever watched. Seriosly. I don't know how many times I watched it. Choice of movies and scenes and music is really great. I recently watched "Youth" I wish the scene where monk starts to flow would have been in this video as well. But unfortunately Youth is a new movie. And I just love the fact that you put "What Dreams May Come" at the end. My heart skips a beat everytime I think about that scene. Congrats mate.
these supercuts tell us exactly why we feel those chills
When I think of Back-to-the-Camera Shots, The Fountain really stands out in my mind. Glad to see that one in there. Beautiful choices.
I like everything about this. If people are complaining about a scene not added, they can make their own. This is perfect.
fucking love it. I always come back to this video
Bond on the London rooftop in 'Skyfall'!!! No, seriously, excellently done video. Bravo.
I could watch more of this for hours...
Great compilation, Barry Lyndon would deserve a place in this too (especially because this kind of composition was invented by 18/19th century artists, to which Barry Lyndon is a tribute)
What a love letter to cinema !
Beautiful.. just beautiful
After 3 years I still remember this masterpiece
Lovely! Was watching Heat and immediately recognized the track over the last scene, which is the exact back-to-the-camera shot you used. Awesome!
When I saw Heat in the theater, I went on a freaking crusade to find this song. Took me a bit longer without the internet being where it is today.
Totally mind blowing. I could watch this over and over. It is so beautiful. This is why I like to watch movies on the big screen. The whole panorama of it all.
You couldn't have chosen a better song for this video. Goose bumps!
Instant Classic, i have heard Epic, it is transcendental, most excellent with no doubt. Thanks.
This gave me goosebumps.
Thanks for providing us with a list of all the movies, it seems like I missed out on a few gems.
There's a great back-to-camera shot in "Up in the Air" when Clooney is told his assistant quit suddenly towards the end of the movie.
In my opinion, your best work so far.
While I was watching it I recalled that moment in Conan The Barbarian after he decapitates Thulsa Doom and look down at the top of the tower, amazing shot.
How does this not have millions of views yet? I almost cried the first time I saw it! Great job, this is beautiful ^_^
this is amazing. i want to see (again) all those movies now.
That´s why I love film art...
This was oddly beautiful.
9 years and not even one dislike.
what a magnificent video! the music choice is so beautiful and it totally fits with the video!
absolutely breath-taking Another shot I can't forget is in the movie"1917", that shot shot is so powerful and mesmerized.
This is a perfect demonstration of film being a stronger device than digital. However, if used correctly, digital has good merits too. Example of great use of digital camera: Life of Pi, Hugo, Skyfall.
stunning. your editing choices are flawless. kudos and thanks
Is this the best montage on KZhead? Yes.
I. LOVE. This. I keep thinking of that scene in Requiem for a dream, on the board-walk.
thank you so much Zach for this amazing work! this is not just a supercut, it is a emotional and philosophical experience and underlines how great and important movies are. cheers!
Excellent stuff. Had no idea it there would be so much variety. So many amazing, iconic shots are apparantly taken from behind a character.
its great that you found the song. i saw it when i was 3 and i still remember watching it. its my favorite film of all time. you should look up this version Moby - God Moving Over The Face of The Waters [Heat Film Edit] its practically a copy of the version used in HEAT.
:17 = Beyond the Black Rainbow. Nice work!
This is awesome. Well done. We'll include this in our morning roundup in the a.m.
That was so magical to watch. A beautiful cinematic escape. Thank you.
One of the best cinema supercut ever made :)
Fantastic work! I liked that you included two Aronofsky films. You could make a supercut longer than this just composed of back to camera shots in his work. The main character in The Wrestler is Mickey Rourkes back!
Beautifully compiled! Jessica Chastain and Brit Marling, two of my favorite actresses back to back :) - in two awesome movies. I think GMOTFW compliments just about anything. Awesome job.
I can't understand why you don't have 1 or 2 milions of subscribers...
Just wonderful !
Fascinating.
Absolutely amazing.
That was spectacular.
excellent, thanx 4 compiling/posting this ;-) really inspiring.
This is so perfect and so inspired, and I love it how you included so many shots from so many different genres... it really shows that you know films, all kinds. Bravo.
Beautiful
Very nice. Consider adding : The Illusionist and the Prestige. They both have some great ones.
the quality is much better on vimeo, much better experiencing it there imo.
Excellent work!
a masterpiece
beautiful.
amazing. Thank you for this.
The more I watch this film, the more I find myself thinking of a quote from Blade Runner that seem apropos to this - "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."
Well done! Pretty amazing!
I use this video during my creative/media/youth work. And 50 000 views is mine ^)
That's already in youtube, it's called "The Unflinching Walk" and it's edited by Keith Melton.
beautiful
Hey all, There's a new version of "The View" with new clips and better quality! Check it out here: The View: A "Back-to-the-Camera Shot" Montage (New Version!)
video is not available
The clips in the new version dont fit as well with the music. Nowhere near as well. A new version of this exact video in HD would have been perfect ! :)
Thanks for making this!
I love this video so much. Thank you for making it.
Great work mate!
Beautiful montage! It's really fun trying to name all of the films!
amazing!!
Here, have my LIKE, good sir. Awesome.
amazing!
Beautiful. One of my favorites not included was Joe and the Volcano's Moon scene.
Bravo, c'est splendide. Plein de frissons et beaucoup d'émotion ;)
Next video should be "cool people walking away from explosions without looking back" :D
I love this. But I was hoping for the Hitchiker's Guide scene when Arthur and Marvin sit in the snow.
The Soundtrack is from Heat. EPIC
TSK! I didn't know that the description was there. And I usually check. GOD!..... LOL!
Brilliant! :)
awesomeness!
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. Great work there buddy! (Y)
Love how you put the scene in Heat in. Using the same song and whatnot. :)
Thanks!
Most excellent video - saved the best for last! =0) Just my 2 cents - Last scene from A Serious Man (A 2009 Coen Bro's movies)
Nice Editing. Great Job on synchronizing with the music ;-)
And POUF, my "to watch" list just grew quite a few entries. Gah!
liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiindooooooooo
Ahh, thanks for the tip! Updated.
I confess I have no special love of black-and-white movies, but when your movie-compilation video has more all-C.G. shots in it than black-and-white shots, it's time to start watching more older movies, my friend.
You can also play Hans Zimmer's "Time" piece from "Inception" as you watch the video muted. It fits to the second! Works pretty well too. ;)
really Super!
Beautifully done. It is amazing how used that viewpoint is in films. This kind of video could go on for an hour or more if Zach had decided to go through tons of movies (which would have been very cool IMO. No cuts). I did notice scenes from several films had twice the coverage instead of only putting one shot per film into the mix. "Alexander", "Event Horizon" and "Valhalla Rising" all had double scenes. Why did you do that, Zach? Just wondering.
I want the part 2!
i respect u for this man lol u have no idea, id get u a beer if i could.
Awesome work, congrats! What is the music that is mixed at the end with Moby's song?
yes, sunshine and constantine
I like how you had the final scene from "Heat" in there, which uses the same song from Moby. Nice job!
Yeah, Moby needs a credit too.
