    • @@tb5827 You think this film ISN'T woke? the "Hero" is a police officer with a cocaine addiction who is clearly meant to be at least a little bit corrupt, his brutal style is destroying his life, his marraige is on the rocks. The two police officers in his team who get killed or injured in teh shootout are the white guys, the black cop and the native american survive. The three crooks are white straight men with superficially happy materially comfortable lives, but underneath are deeply dysfunctional because of their need to fund the "American Dream". The young prostitute is an African American girl who is murdere by a white supremacist, who is the most vile character in teh film, and the one who we are all happy to see killed. The second most vile character is the sleazy corrupt banker played by William Fichtner. A person using a wheelchair is the one with the cool plan to rob the bank, no mention is made of the fact taht he uses a wheelchair, its not an issue because he can do what needs to be done. The only time we see Vinent show empathy or tenderness is when he is comforting the murdered girl's mother and when he finds his step daughter dying in the bath. Vincent realises his self image of masculinity toxic and that it is influence is destroying his wife and daughter's life, so he voluntarily leaves them for their own good. Chris's wife sheds Chris after realising that he is ultimately an abusive and controlling person with a gambling habit he can't control, she decides she will stand n her own two feet and raise their son herself. Vinvent sees reflections of himself in Neil (in that they are both driven professionals who have cut out personal attachments to achieve their goals), but his shooting of him at the end may be a metaphor for Vincent "killing" the old version of himself. This film is woke as f**k, you just didn't realise it.

DeNiro and Pacino gave my respect for 'getting' the extraordinary script abd signing on, and the extraordinary supporting cast that didn't over-play their parts. • *A clinic of acting from all the actors. Saw this movie three times when it opened. The audience was mesmerized with the bank hold up scenes. Even the seats vibrate. And the last scene with this background music. Michael Mann made a masterpiece. It could have been made two or three weeks ago. It's a timeless movie.*

  • My Dad and I watched this in the theatres together in 95-96. We rewatched it together a few days ago after almost 26 years. After the movie was over I turned to him and told him that for 26 years I haven’t seen anything like this. He just smiled at me.

  • I love the level of respect and honour the cop (Vincent) and the criminal (Neil) have towards each other because both of them understand themselves but they understand each other as for in the ending when Neil dies Vincent holds his hand as a sign of respect and honour even though he’s literally just killed him he still respects him and that is true story telling power on the big screen

  • This track came out @ 3 months before this movie. And I would put this track on while heading home after work . The traffic always bother me ( I live in L.A. ). But not at all while hearing this. As soon as I listened to this, I said this track should be in a movie. After a couple of months it was made the theme song for Heat. What a beauty!
