Paul Byron scored a highlight reel shorthanded goal in the third period that proved to be the game-winner and the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 to take a 1-0 series lead.

Anderson and Byron had two beautiful goals (especially the shorthanded winner), and Price once again went God mode; he quite literally stole a game for us. That Tavares freak accident looked super scary, I literally froze when I saw the whiplash/hypertension his neck sustained on that hit. Thank God he's responsive and hopefully he has a speedy recovery.
Ducharme silence all the doubters. Staal who is kks replacement, with an assist tonight and some amazing passes and Paul Byron who could've been subbed out for cc get a beautiful winner also ppl wanted cc with zuk and toffoli but armia stayed and also got an assist in the game winner.

Well... to everyone saying that Price wasn’t good enough and that he let 2 goals on 4 shots in the AHL... there you have it, he completely stole that game. Habs also have another big advantage: they’re quicker... 4 breakaways this game 2 were successful. My prayers go out to Tavares and his close ones, hate seeing stuff like that may he have a quick recovery and nothing too bad 🙏

Yeah, the habs played hard and they brought their game, the Leafs did not do the same sadly, they were lethargic all night, there was no energy even before the injury and very little after.

I'm hugely disappointed that you didn't include Tavares being stretchered off the ice. I fully understand not wanting to cover the incident itself, but simply showing him on the stretcher would probably be a good compromise for a very important moment. Also brings context to the fight.

As a habs fan, the injury reminded me very much of pacioretty's injury on chara s hit. Always scary to see a player knocked out on the ice. In hope of a good recovery
If you weren’t a Habs fan I would say you are trumping something up here. The Chara hit was intentional and nasty,, the Corey hit was a terrible accident, he felt terrible for what happened, they are completely different. Only the result was similar, but you need to be very clear when comparing those two situations, cause people will take it the wrong way.
That being said, I hope Travers is ok. Cause that’s something I don’t want to see happen to anyone.

Even though the Canadiens won and they played well overall, they got to do a lot better on their power play for sure, it's very rare that teams have great success in the playoffs without the power play but the Canadiens pk was great this game and against a team that has an elite power play.
The last Montreal's PP when they put both Weber and Petry at the point was a lot more effective. They had more scoring chances in the first 30 sec than in their 4 first pp of the game.

Why exclude such an important part of the game’s story? Stop being cowardly and recap the game in full, good and bad. Sportsnet constantly censors undesirable or uncomfortable moments from the games in their highlight packages and it’s infuriating.
Classic first game for the oldest rivalry in hockey and first time since 1979. Don't like either team, but that goal by Byron was awesome, he is a guy the habs put on waivers 3 times this year. Tavares injury was scary, wishing a speedy recovery for him, losing JT will hurt the Leafs, but still think Toronto wins this series in 6 maybe even 7 games.
1 game at a time boys, Montreal wins this one, series still isn’t over. Let’s try and win both in Toronto!

Price is really amazing! What a stop on Nylander and Marner’s 2-on-1 in the 3rd period. Matthews had 8 shots, while Marner had 5. Both were unable to outsmart Price, even from the enclave, sometimes. The only goal he gave tonight was lucky (it deviated before he found himself on the Nylander pallet) and he only had to push into the cage. But Price just stole a game.

Ateka, yep the gigantic contract guys continually fail for the Leafs. 10-16 in playoffs since Matthews and others started this "rebuild". Lou had them on the right path. He sure has the Islanders doing way better than Toronto. Rank amateurs like Dubas and Keefe don't know what they are doing. Sure they won the Calder Cup together but this is the big time. Shiite, Coach Brophy even won a playoff series over a damn good St Louis club back in the day. This bunch of Leafs don't have the gumption required to win any thing. And sadly I am a big fan. Just another usual early exit coming.

This is why I wanted the Leafs to play the Jets in the playoffs instead of the Habs. Leafs would've won a playoff series against the Jets because the Leafs matchup better against the Jets than they do against the Habs.

To me the way Anderson plays kinda reminds of kinda reminds of that former Eric Lindros but Lindros was a center and Anderson is a winger, both were power forwards, both very physical, both very quick for big players I believe Anderson is quicker though, both very skill when it comes to scoring goals but lindros is a greater playmaker though by far and they both will drop the gloves with anyone, they don't pick who they fight.
