The Hulk used to scare me as a kid. Now I'm laughing at the taxi driver's reaction when he sees him. 😂
Nothing like growing up in the 70's and early 80's and being a comic book nerd and seeing one of your favorite super heroes on tv! That was 300lbs of real muscle, not CGI. And an actor like Bill Bixby put his heart into the character. Ferrigno and Bixby will always be my favorite version of the Hulk. Great scene music and New York is always a great back drop.
Yep I am just old enough to remember The Amazing Spider-Man live action TV show.

I remember growing up loving this show, it was the dukes of Hazzard then the incredible hulk, I'm 55 years old now😁
Wow, you gotta love the heart these actors from the 70's & 80's put into their performance. No CGI, no green screen, no advanced prosthetics. Such a time warp to go back and see what super hero TV was like from this era.
Lou Ferrigno said that the mere applying of the face prosthetics, make up and wig took hours and it was unnerving. He described the glue they used as very cold and wet and they had to wait until it was dry enough to apply the prosthetics. Ferrigno had to take meditation classes to go through that every day. Sometimes if a mistake was made during the application, they had to start from scratch. Other days they were behind schedule and Ferrigno couldn't make his scenes, which meant the whole make-up process was done for nothing. Lou described having all the make-up on as a strange state as he couldn't use his ear piece. He was totally deaf and half blind due to the wig and the lenses. Due to his general appearance (and the fact that he had to stay in a special trailer with a specific temperature so his green make-up wouldn't melt) he could barely socialize with the other actors and crew, which made his work as the Hulk very lonely.
@@DocRunaway Wow! I never knew any of this. Thanks for sharing!

That must've been the most cardio Lou ever did. It's not easy for a bodybuilder to do that much running
Are you an imposter? lol
I was afraid he was going to have a heart attack running in the freezing city. Massive bodybuilders are not set up like that.
3:34 - Lou Ferrigno told that that blue truck almost hit him for real; it was a real truck unaware of the shooting. The crew didn't have much time to shoot and the weather was freezing so Lou kept it going and in character so the shot could be used and didn't have to be repeated. Luckily nothing happened to him. If you pay attention, when the driver opens the truck's door, it's a white vehicle (not blue) and a totally d8fferent model. It was an attempt to incorporate the truck as part of the scene and not leaving it as a "mistake." Ken Johnson, the series creator and producer, said a few people called the police about having seen the Hulk on the street that day. A specific woman screamed in horror at the sight of the Hulk, although I'm not sure if they used that in the scene.
I like how the person that comes out of it is clearly in a different (white) truck 😂😂
I thought whilst watching it that alot of the people on the city streets were not just extras
He even apologised to the driver.
Whoa! I never knew this.
I didn’t like this
To me the Incredible Hulk was amongst the best shows ever in the 70s/80s
It has to be cold in New York when this scene is shot, but Big Louie's barechested; he has to be cold. 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
IKR
With his size and metabolism, Lou's probably not bothered by it that much.
Hulk don't get cold lol him just get mad 🤣
@@a.i.gdallas3581 ...well...he does look like a painted clown, escaped from a mental hospital...so he probably is mad 🤪🤪🤪
Ferrigno said in his book it was actually freezing that day and he had a lot of problems shooting those shots. The crew had to ask many businesses to allow Lou in them while they were not filming.

When Big Louie's running through the New York City streets, you can easily see he has green slippers on.
Producers had a problem with that when filming the episode. If they had done a color correction on his slippers, his hair would of filmed more brownish. It was decided too color correct his hair, making the slippers more noticeable.
Even the Hulk can get a splinter in his feet. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

That’s because other freaks have been there. Such as the Daleks, Weeping Angels, Jason Voorhees and King Kong.
They took much more notice in 2012, maybe because of the aliens and the other Avengers. That's what it takes to impress New Yorkers, I guess.
@mattjacobson5774 This was filmed around 1977 or 1978, not sure where 2012 is coming from in regards to this TV show!
@@vansnk12 It's a call forward to the 2012 Avengers movie. It is interesting to compare this episode with Hulk rampaging through New York in 1978 with him rampaging through New York later in 2012.
I like that this hulk doesn't try to scare and hurt everybody in his path he's actually fairly intelligent and knows right from wrong
The Hulk is driven by David Banner and his compassionate personality.
There were some later episodes where David Banner questioned what would happen if he kept transforming in to the Hulk
Yeah, unlike that Dell Frye Hulk
David's Hulk was basically a more PRIMITIVE version of himself.
@@leighwright7642 True. He just had his intentions and motivations.
To think 30 years later the Hulk would be in New York fighting Abomination absolutely destroying Harlem.
I would still rather watch Big Lou any day over the CGI stuff.
@@antonioallen1763 ...the trouble is you can only match hulks size with CGI. Who in the hell is big enough in real life, to play the part. Also CGI is only going to get better, in future. I'd rather see a fairly decent CGI representation than a real life, looney looking, painted clown running around busting up mostly flimsy furniture!...I mean, common now!...the Hulk in the comic books slings battle tanks in the air, thumps the ground creating a localised earthquake. So funny that Hulk still remembers where he has to be and how to get there.
The Hulk is driven by David's last goal/mission prior to his transformation. After the objective is accomplished...the Hulk becomes completely lost.
He's still got the same brain
"The Hulk "" is driven by Banner's personality since they have become one .
Banner becomes an angry 3 year old who looks like a green monster. He’s still a human powered by Anger and cosmic gamma radiation. The intentions are easily the same.
funny? what is funny how you're a hulk fan and have no fucking clue about how the consciousness of hulk operates and its connection with banner. LOL
The Times Square scenes seem like Hulk found his way into a 1970s Scorsese flick
The music, the way the transformation, the way the hulk movies and the slight slow motion really adds to the powerful effect of this creature. They did great work back in the 70's on this show.
One of my favourite Season 1 episodes like the cab driver really pissed David off good.
"Ow, I hurt myself changing this tire!"
Rip, Bill Bisby, the actual David Benner and the incredible hulk of my childhood in the 80s.
My Late Mother loved this show, she also liked Bill Bixby. She felt sorry for Banner and The Hulk. She told me she would not have been scared of the Hulk and definitely helped hide him from McGee who she simply despised.
The Incredible Hulk in New York City? Now, that's more like it! Imagine if this version of the Incredible Hulk had met the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from the live-action films that were released in 1990 and 1991.

Hey, if turning into The Incredible Hulk makes the Uber go quicker then we're all here for it.
That cabbie must be hard of hearing if he can't hear the sound clothes ripping.
@@kevinmiller6380 probably a good explanation for why he didn't turn around when David was changing. He is an older man, obviously. I've thought a few times times that the Hulk transformation must be loud. Take a piece of cloth and rip it. It's a little loud. Multiply that as his shirt rips in various places, his feet exploding out of his shoes, and he's growling through the process, it would be quite loud.
😂🤣😅
Simmy Bow as the cab driver. He was a regular on TV in the '70s and did some film work in the '80s, most memorably as Rocky's corner man (who advises him to retire) during his first fight, the trucker in "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" who tells the tale of Large Marge, and the janitor in "Beetlejuice" who informs the Maitlands about the Lost Souls Room.
I have seen Pee Wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice but had never realized this actor was in those. Now I can totally see his face.

Wow the Hulk in NYC that must have been a sight to see.
That guy's reaction to the transformation was just amazing and hilarious.
Running through Times Square like that was one of the Hulk's best episodes.
This episode has to have the oldest hitmen in TV history! This guy were running with Luciano and Luchese in the 1930s and 1940s!
Hulk has a good natural compass. Some of us were born with it.
If you look closely, you can see the Hulk wearing shoes. This was done for outdoor scenes so Lou wouldn’t have to worry about any injuries to his feet.
Understandable .
Lou Said in an Interview, Even The Mighty Hulk wouldn't want to run Barefoot in Times Square 😂
tbh, you don't have to look closely... they're pretty obvious. I noticed them right away without reading any comments.
The Old " Don't make me Angry , You won't like me when I'm Angry " line , used by Eric Bana , comes to mind . Eric Bana's real skill was comedy , but a Good Serious actor too , like most comedians are .
