A budget Lamborghini Urus?!

Say hello to the all-new Peugeot 408!
We’ve got our hands on Peugeot’s all-new half hatchback, half SUV, and we’re about to see if it can stand out in this oh-so-crowded car market.
For starters, the 408 is clearly a looker. With loads of creases and sharp angular taillights, we’re getting some serious Urus vibes from the rear! The good looks continue up front too, with a cool grille design and Peugeot’s instantly recognisable fang daytime running lights.
What’s more, the good looks continue once you step inside the cabin. There’s a cool dash design up top, and the seats aren’t only comfortable, but also come in an Alcantara-like material. The infotainment system is a real winner, too, with both the central screen and digital dials being highly customisable.
It’s easy to choose an engine, as there are only three to choose from. The entry-level comes with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, and then there are two plug-in hybrids, with the range-topper being a 1.6-litre turbo petrol coupled with an electric motor which can deliver 225hp. It can also drive for up to 40 miles on electric power alone.
All sounds pretty positive, right? Well, there’s one key sticking point… The price! The 408 starts at around £31,000, and the one we have our hands on here will set you back around £46,000! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

  • As a french guy i always found that french cars (recntly 2000 to 2015) looked not that good. But i have to say that with DS it was the start of our comeback ! Peugeot has stepped up its game since the new series. I can safely say that i could go for a french car by now which was something unimaginable previously in terms of design. However I still feel that the engine and motorisation needs a bit of work. These new looks are kind of sporty and aggressiv which is great but now we need to have better engine to fit with those amazing looking cars

    • I feel exactly the same way. Politics killed our sport cars industry. But even with that we managed to be pretty remarkable with the RS brand. It's a shame that we let these idiots comand our industry. Apparently electrical powers might help us to be more competitive power wise. The bummer is that we are the champions of luxury and excellence and our auto industry keep doing cheap/middle status type of cars... we could bring so much to the table, it's a shame.

    • Problem with Peugeot (or any french manufacturer really) is the reliability. Even with strict maintenance their engines have a *lot* of flaws and defects that can easily cost an arm and a leg. I myself have a 208 GTI with the infamous 1.6 THP 200bhp engine, and when you end up with a receipt of 5500 euros for a full upper engine change (so cylinder head and gasket) when the car is barely 80,000km and january 2014 old, it hurts.

      @HysteryProduction@HysteryProduction Жыл бұрын
    • @@HysteryProduction well, maybe because that engine was co-engineered with BMW. The 1.4 Hdi and 1.6 Hdi were quite reliable and economical, the current 1.5 Hdi has some problems with the adblue system, but that's something that the majority of cars have and the 1.2 puretech, after the belt redesign (2018 onwards) is quite reliable and punchy (it's noisy though). My family has 3 PSA cars with the 1.4 Hdi engine, my sister has 350k km on her c3, I've 208k on my c3 and my mother has 150k km in her 207. They're quite reliable, on mine I've to change the fuel valve in the next service, but considering my parents home is 150km from my current work (I'm a teacher in Portugal and we basically have to travel through the entire country) I put 300km in a single weekend, with the car packed with clothes and some food. My sister's car (she's also a teacher) is from 2002 and it's still going strong, the best part is the consumption (my mean is between 3.8 and 5.1, so it's quite frugal)

  • Dude it's a security feature if you accidentally unlock the car and not proceed with opening the door, the ECU will sent a lock door request after 60-90 seconds of inactivity... it's somehow anointing but you just need to open the door slightly to interrupt the mechanism and it will never lock up again......and the steering wheel is amaising but then again I am 186 cm and it never blocks the HMI...personally I love the fact that it's position is customizable...

  • hi mat just a few things to mention here, with the windows once they stopped going down push the button down again and they go slightly further down both my 2019 308 and my mums 2019 5008 do this. the other thing is with that silly visio camera system if you reverse and it fills it in if you stop say because someone had their door open and you had to wait after a little while it forgets what its seen and then shows the greyed out bars again so now you cant see what it remembered like 15 secs ago i had this issue when driving my mums 5008

    @RealMaGicXz@RealMaGicXz Жыл бұрын
    • the other thing ive noticed is with my 3cyl 1.2l 130bhp 308 is my economy is awful only 24mpg and i dont rag it around also with my mums 5008 if you accelerate it takes forever for the auto box to downshift and aso revs far too high someties before it decides to shift ruining mpg and if using cruise while its good that when going downhill it shifts down to keep the car at the desired speed because the engine then revs higher than before again it ruins economy
