This is the new DS7, and Mat’s about to find out if this family-friendly SUV has what it takes to compete with market-leading small SUVs like the Mercedes GLA and Volvo XC40!
So let’s check out the design. It’s fair to say the DS7 certainly looks the part, with this updated model coming with all-new taillights coupled with the brand’s 3D name badge on the back. The model we have here comes with black cladding around the wheel arches, roof bars and some chrome surrounds on the windows. But the star of the show is up top, with an all-new grille at the front of the car that has some chrome inserts added to it. It’s also flanked by some new headlights and newly-designed daytime running lights.
But while the looks are pretty impressive on the outside, it’s a different story on the inside. Clearly, DS has tried to make the interior design unique, there seems to have been more of a focus on being different rather than quality. There are lots of diamond patterns throughout the cabin, but the quality of some of these elements could be a bit better. The updated model also comes with a full digital dial display, but the graphics aren’t the best. All-in-all the interior is ok, but it’s losing out to its competitors in this department.
When it comes to engines, there are a few to choose from, with the entry-level being a 1.5-litre diesel that drives the front wheels and delivers 130hp. There are two plug-in hybrids available, with the range-topper coming equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine coupled with dual-electric motors to produce four-wheel-drive, as well as the ability to put down 360hp.
If you’re looking to pick up an entry-level DS7 the price starts from around £37,000. However, top-of-the-range models come in at over £60,000! So is it really worth it?! Or could that £60,000 be spent on a much more established player in the market? You’ll have to stick with Mat and find out for yourself!

Mat, I like your back-to-basic reviews as I think they can help make your mind up on narrowing down your alternatives when buying a new car. Quite often it is the little things in a car design which can put you off buying the car, things like no normal buttons for operating how warm or cold the car is; a bonkers trend!
Car reviewers often complain about the missing buttons for temperature. What I don't understand is who's adjusting the temperature all the time? I set it when I get the car, and then I pretty much never touch it again. Why would I want 21 degrees today and 22 tomorrow?
@@adagio1980 I change mine all the time. Where I live, the weather fluctuates like crazy. If it’s 30°+ outside then I need to adjust the AC to be lower and speed higher since there’s a lot of heat coming in from the windows. When I get in the car, I set it to Low to get cooled asap then slightly raise it. On cooler days and at night, it’s the opposite and I just generally like to be warmer. Some people’s bodies just built diff I guess
@@adagio1980 Because people live all over the world and weather/temperature can change drastically even on a daily commute in some places. Yes it's not the end of the world, but removing switches just stinks of cost cutting and cheapening. Anything the manufacturer says is pure marketing BS.

I would like to argue that padel shifter in road cars should always be fitted to the steering column because when you are trying to manually shift while having the wheel upside down it's impossible to do it fast. Learning to do it would be an option but then you could argue to just learn to use messy infotainment system. I get the argument that Matt pointed out in the video which is very much true in cars that don't need steering inputs that would cause the wheel to be upside down and you having the need to shift. For example on racing track.
Your "new" glasses do compliment the car pretty well

The old DS7 crossback topmodel is fantastic! Insane reliability, cheap parts, great luxury and honestly the driving is quite decent in sport mode. Ventilated leather seats, reclining front and back, massage, sunroof, moving headlights and adaptive suspension is what people really notice. (This is crazy at this pricepoint)

with regards to the back seats, where when you push them forward and they have a raised sections, is that because manufacturers have gone away from lifting the back seat bases up prior to pushing the backs forward? You never seem to mention whether seats have this feature. my seat ibiza, has a similar raised section if i only push the seats forward, whereas if i lift the seat part first then push the backs down, then i have a virtually flat back transport area for larger items.

I have seen a Video of this now being launched in the US

Citroen DS3 and DS7 for me are equally impressive.
Its not a Citroen. Its a seperate company in the Stellantis group. It actually has more parts from Peugeot and the Entertainment System is the same like in the Peugeot 5008.
Over the decades the Citroën 'tradition' / 'heritage' has been steadily diluted. In more recent years, the famous marque has been pushed towards the background in favour of the ephemeral 'DS' brand which is a dressed-up Peugeot i.e. more 'luxury' and gadgets. In short, pure marketing, even to the extent of nonsensically invoking the DS as inspiration.

Hello friends, I come from China and have driven various models from nearly 40 different brands, such as Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Mustang, and so on. However, I have always cherished a DS5. The sound insulation effect, sound system, and driving experience of this car are shocking. It can be said that it is a French Rolls Royce with French characteristics and affordable prices. I drive an SX version of the Citroen ZX on my daily commute, Although it is a 20-year-old car, the driving experience is impressive.😊😊

Not too sure about the DS7 but the new DS4s are absolutely riddled with electrical issues. Why is this particular DS 7 missing a parcel shelf that u can use to level the floor ? Its standard on any model above the base - which this certainly isn't one.
Hey Mat. I am confused between the XC40 and X1. Both are great cars. XC40 comes with a smaller price tag here in India but has some flaws that really make you think between these cars. For example here in India XC40 gets 18 inch plain alloys which look boring and lacks a diesel engine but has more features. It would be great if you would take a look on these two cars' Indian models cause they are subtly different from UK models. Please note that there are only a petrol and diesel in X1 here in India and if I would buy a X1, I would take the diesel so to make it simple. Please advise between India's XC40 and India's X1 diesel. Which is better?

DS is really struggling outside France. Old DS 7 generation was plagued with issues : water in tail lights (which helped coining the "aquarium lights" term), rear train suspension, uneven tire wear... It was also said that it epitomized luxury "à la française". But with its abundance of chrome and flashy design, it didn't felt very French to me (or in the way Madame Lulu brothel would have been). The new one that I drive tested when I was picking my new car has a more sober style and the DS Veil DRLs are a nice trick. However ergonomics and certain design gimmicks are hard to live with (including the "cobra" shifting stick which does not feel or look very premium and is still a reminder of Madame Lulu's business) . PHEV which is the only way to pack enough power to move this SUV goes with firmer suspension that can get pretty unconfortable with the bigger wheels. This does not fit the supposed refined ride of a DS. In the end, when you look at the financial side of things, for a long term business lease, the DS7 gets pricier than its rivals.
Apart from a leaky tail light now after 4th year, everything else - not a problem almost 155k on the clock, and apart from regular service everything is like from factory. No chronicle tire wear that plagues forums etc, and i have friends who also bought theirs seeing mine, guess what , they don't have issues either. Thats 5 of 5 cars that i know off that have no problems. Issue is we all hear on internet when someone has a problem and keeps looking for answers , but rest of the bunch just don't get on-line and brags how got it is - they continue enjoying their car. Btw DS isn't really struggling at all. Just DS brand is not available everywhere yet. Even in Serbia, there is no dealer, yet I imported new one from Italy -because i liked it and wanted to do it. Except for some specific parts - everything You need can be done at any PSA dealer/service.
@@idimidodjimi6760 Well first of all, I am delighted that you're happy with your DS7, the info I gave is just feedback from one of the main forum from DS drivers in France (mainly PHEV version for related rear train issues). And yes DS is struggling as their main market was china and they are free falling over there. They are still strong in France (and do sell well as company cars) . The feedback I gave on business lease and ride quality are based on my personal experience
@@nicolascounio9906 Ok but how pricier its a premium product with a lot of stuff really for that price , but at a size of a class that is bigger than it actually competes in. It holds it price much better than its rivals, second hand market especially is filled with used ones and Q5's are literally the same price at it is. I dunno i think You were typically shafted in UK for anything that isn't German (maybe You are not from UK but remark still stands from previous experiences) or its something else. Personally i like having a gear leaver - buttons or some small tiny shaft seems ridiculous , and useless for me especially when You are reversing , or changing back to forward , You need to look down and find the bloody thing while the gear leaver comes instinctively and even blinded You can always feel for it.
@@idimidodjimi6760 No I am not English, and I do not drive a German car. The end result, I drive a Japanese made company car (with all the amenities I wanted) and own a 2009 Panda 4x4... Both of them have a real "gear" selector .
