Hi everybody!
In this video I’ll show you how to make your own diy silicone swimmable mermaid tail.
DO NOT USE TAPE, use an existing monofin. use skin safe silicone! This is an old tutorial.
You’ll need:
Paper
Pencil
Measuring tape
Neoprene (a lot)
Polypropylene
Monofin/swim flippers (NO TAPE)
Waterproof paint
Aqua life safe silicone
The complete tail cost me around the 200 euros.
This includes the mahina monofin.
If you have any questions feel free to put them in the comment section below!

Wow such dedication and commitment into this tail I woulda gave up but yours came out looking amazing good job 👍 👏
Coco Sweets thank you! I know, I would have probably gave up too. But since I worked on it about an hour every weekend it was more doable. :)
I've always wanted a merman tail, but these ingredients are very hard to find in Brazil. Also very expensive :(
E. Noberto awww that sucks :(
Don’t worry! For starters you can get a fabric tail like the ones from finfun! The cost is WAY lower and it works the same :)
hard in germany too also thats not the method of my choice to do it for a outcome that low of quality it takes to much time also its not a real silicone tail but a hybrit
You can get a tail from amazon
The only problem is.... I can’t draw :(
Ah come on! I know you can do it if you try!
Then take it to your friend or a designer
Me too (I like how some people just don't click read more and just scroll down)
U can find a tail template u like online and trace over it I'm not condoning tracing other people's artwork, but a template is fine since it's a template
is that supposed to be funny
Wow u have talent THATS IT IM SUBSCRIBING 🤯
Astronaut TrixieKat thank you! Yay! :)
how many Bottles of Silicon do you use and how many meters of Neopren.
Buy 7 in case but you'll end up using about 5
Depending how thin you coat it
Sirenas Cubby Thank you
@@kaankilic1482 so late but if you made it how many did you need?
I'm about to make my first silicone tail, and I've watches this video time and time again for reference.
Chisiwellcat oh nice!!!!
Updating almost 2 years later, onto my second tail with more knowladge and skills :)
Yayyyy
You make it look so easy :) Well done and i hope you inspired other mermaids to give it a go as well.
Gwendoline Woudstra maybe it just is easy ;) Thank you!!
Seriously amazing video. I loved seeing the process! I’ve wanted to make a tail for years and finally gathered the materials to make one myself:) I hope it turns out as nice as yours!
I just wanted to say y’all are so talented 🥰☺️(also I love how you made yourself scales😊)
Awww thank you!
This is the best diy mermaid tail I've ever come across. I'm in the process of making mine. Hope it's good
This is really inspiring! I hope one day I can make my own tail!
you are truly amazing this is the work that the creators of h2o mermaids of the sea did to create those tails
Amazing video! I made a tail using this method in February(I still need to finish painting it😣) Where did you buy the neoprene from and did you do anything at the bottom to prevent it from opening?
Mermaid Estari hi! Glad you like it! I bought the neoprene at a Dutch store (they don’t ship worldwide) to prevent the fin from opening I used Velcro sewn at the bottom.
@@MytischCrafts thank you so much❤ looking forward to the swimming video!
@@MytischCrafts What’s the store called?
This tutorial is great. I like how it was telling you what to do, yet having a couple of funny parts.
This is the best video I could find on how to make one and I’m in the middle of making mine.... it is going pretty well except I still don’t know how to install a zipper lol 😂
thank you so much! this is the perfect and easiest way to make a mermaid tail!
This was my first time watching a diy tail video and honestly I’m impressed !! You dedication is awesome !! Definitely inspired me to make my own ! But I don’t have a sewing machine 😢 nonetheless, I really enjoyed watching this ! I definitely subscribed to your channel !!
I made few of my tails handstitched. Time consuming but not impossible 😉
Dude you’re so talented-
Thank you so much!

Wow, it looks so real!! 😍😍
Great job!
You’re crafty af
JoGar VizAh you’re nice af :)

Kiki from Holland, thank u :)
Finally one that i can make, thank God this wasn't full silicone. Gonna make my own soon but more realistic
Oh great! Good luck! I’m making a realistic one at the moment as well!
@@MytischCrafts have fuuuuun!
you have inspired and helped meh sooo much! could you send me a link of the polypropeen and neoprene you used pls??? bcuze i reeaaallyyy want to make a tail too
the plastic is a floor protector from ikea, they dont sell the neoprene I used anymore
Super slim!
Billie's Bish thanks! :)
Great tail.
LG’S WORLD thank you :)
My mom made me mine it’s not silicone tho but I still love it!❤️ great work!!!
Lovely tail! One question though what is the plastic stuff you used for the monofin called?
It’s a floor protector from Ikea! :)
@@MytischCrafts Thank you!
This is so cool
Where did you get the plastic? Have you swam in it? Any drag?
I got the plastic at the Ikea, i did swim in it but there was no drag! :)
@@MytischCrafts what's the name of the plastic?
Carla Pyke it’s called a floor protector
This is so cool now I really want to try making one. Also do you know how long it took you to make it.
Solo Studio not as long as my other tail! You can make it within a week. If your silicone cooperates
Love the tail and its so pretty. But I have one question What plastic did you use to your monofin. The one you cute out. I want to make one and I don't know what is calling. (BIG FAN! Hope you gonna make one more video with you making a mermaid tail again. I LOVE THEME!)
Heyyy! I used a floor protector from ikea, but you can also use lexan plastic. It has to be a bit stiff, or else you won’t get propulsion. And yes making more tutorials in the future ;)
@@MytischCrafts Thank you. I have used the notification bell so I not miss anything. :-)
Are you maybe gonna make a Mako Mermaid tail? Or the moon ring? That will be awesome!
Hey. I was just wondering, how do you paint over the silicone? I've had trouble finding articles/videos that show you how to do this. I'm doing a small scale Mermaid tail for a doll and I'm struggling with this aspect! Thanks (:
heyyy sorry for the late reply, I mixed pigments with the silicone used and brushed it on :)
Where did you get the waterproof paint for the tail
Giovanni Montalbo hi! I got it from a Dutch store called “de kwast” it’s from the brand Marabu
Mytisch Crafts I wish I could try this but I don’t think any of the stores in my town area doesn’t have these materials
Giovanni Montalbo aww that sucks! :( I had the same issue but I could order it online.
@@MytischCrafts I live in the dutch lol
That’s mertastic! 🧜♀️
ok remember that dont forget :) :o awesome
What sewing machines can u use for this?(what one did u use)
diy cat hi! I actually used a kids sewing machine. And that didn’t go to well. it did sew but slower and it broke down a few times. I think pretty much any adult machine with a strong needle can handle it. ( I don’t know much about sewing machines but I hope it answers your question)
Wauw so geweldig !
Hello ! : D I just wanted to ask where did you get your white neoprene? Because I can only find black neoprene or it's scuba neoprene and the texture is not the same ...
Neoxynne hi!!! finally someone who starts with an hello! Haha I got mine from a local store. But I would suggest checking Etsy or Amazon, maybe a fabric store nearby? You can also try bathing suit material :) hope it helps!
@@MytischCrafts Hey! I'm so happy that you answer the questions so quickly !! ^^ I'm sorry for my English, it's really not that good since I use google translate since I'm French ^^ Anyway, I've already made one in neoprene if we can talk to each other in private, I could tell you more and show it to you ^^ But the basic neoprene fabric was black so it suited me very well but unfortunately the sites or stores that I usually go through only have black, skin color or white but it is neoprene scuba and I don't want to use lycra (swimsuit fabric) because I find that we see too much of the details of our real legs ^^
@@MytischCrafts But I thank you very much for your answer: D
Neoxynne yeah no problem! You can talk to me on insta? Would love to see it! Mytisch_Crafts
@@MytischCrafts I have already subscribed to you ^^ I like what you do so much, you at least show how we can manage cheaply ^^ and it's so beautiful what you do: p I send you a message on instagram ^^

You are sooo talented you should start a tail making business ❤️ xx

#Black Cat LPS thank you so muchhhhhh!!!! I hope you’ll be able to make an amazing tail!
Well recently I had my grandmother help me create two beautiful fabric tails but I just absolutely love the look of silicone tails which now I can try to make!
#Black Cat LPS oh that’s awesome!
Unfortunately though it was fall time when we finished the tails and now since its winter I wont get to enjoy them I until like this June or july :(
#Black Cat LPS same! I’m currently working on a H2O tail. And even though it’s almost finished I have to wait until June as well.
You can do this on a store bought tail right? I have a neoprene kinda mermaid tail, but it’s a bit boring. So I want to do this!! ❤️❤️
Emma Gunter yes absolutely!!
Mytisch Crafts yay
This is cool
kyra and nevaeh salazars this is a cool comment
How many tubes of silicone did you use for this project and where did you purchase the neoprene from? And what brand of waterproof paint did you use, please.
L C I used about 10 tubes of silicone. The neoprene is bought in Holland. The brand is called Marabu, mixed media art spray :)
Thank you
How do you only have 3,700 subs? There are so many you tubers that have millions and you’re not one of them? Wow
Bratz Girl yeah I don’t know why hahaha
🤩 wow!!!!!
Can you give a link for where you got the silicone please? Or a website
That helped me start busses. Now I make mermaid tears size 10/12 and up
I like how she just doing this like oh yeah a fun craft and everyone else doing these are making a ocean of tears
Haha ocean of tears, hey I cut off the parts where I was crying :)
I know, all of my questions are prolly getting annoying, but What type of silicone? Aquarium or does normal clear silicone work? Also how expensive was it to make this?? Thanks!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
As long as the silicone it’s waterproof it would work, but if you want to be good to nature a aqua life safe one would be best! It costs me about 40€ to make (when the monofin is not included)
Full of nice shoes 😍
Great job you are so creative Love from SL 🇱🇰 and where are u from
Thank you!!! I’m from the Netherlands :)
Wow this is amazing I’m going to convence my parents to buy the ingredients so I can make that!
Aubrey Tittle good luck!!
What kind of plastic do you use for the monofin and where do you get it?
MoonStonetheCat Sapphire Hi! I used a piece of plastic form ikea :) www.ikea.com/us/en/p/kolon-floor-protector-44881100/
Cool
That looks so cool. Yet so expensive
Well, yeah, it's silicone. It's not going to be cheap, sweetie, lol.
What kind of plastic do you use? I see polypropylene, but what do you call the material you bought, so it is elastic and not just a strong piece of it?
So you’re watching all my videos I see, thanks for watching! The plastic is from Ikea it uses EVA Plastic. Look for any plastic that doesn’t break or use a monofin :)
@@MytischCrafts Thank you a lot! So IKEA sells those EVA-plastic boards... or was it made as anything else and you just changed the use? :D Thank youu!
@@ColdLUGIA I used my mahina, the plastic is indeed from Ikea, the ikea also has floor protectors who actually work perfectly
can you paint over the silicone?
Cookies and Crem yes, but only with silicone paint, or you can try mixing pigment/oil paint with the silicone you used and cover the silicone with it.
ik hou echt van dit
what brand of silicone did you use?
What kind of neoprene is it in your h2o tail? Sorry for all of my questions, I am making the h2o one and want it done by our trip in December.
Its scuba knit, a ''fake'' neoprene that's a bit cheaper :) but it works the same
@@MytischCrafts great thanks! and what type of plaster sorry its just I know you used the wrong one first
Very beautiful ♡♡♡♡
Wow very good
How heavy was this tail? I'm a beginner and am buying my first fabric tail but would like to make my own silicone one without it being overly heavy.
Hey!! This is actually very doable for a beginner tail. I don’t think it weighs more then 2 kilos.( without monofin) you decide how heavy you make it based on the amount of silicone you use.
What silicone would be best? What waterproof marine safe paint/pigment?
Aquarium silicone caulking, or dragon skin silicone. Paint wise, go for fabric paint or pigments
Did you add velcro to the bottom or just leave it open?
I added a bit of velcro in the middle!
Hey so a few questions! I think I want this do be a project I do over quarantine! About how long did it take? How much does it cost?
Not longer then a week if you already have all materials, about 100 -150 dollar not including the monofin
@@MytischCrafts ok thanks!
Can you suggest the marine safe painting brand?
jenny wong it’s fabric paint, from the brand Marabu
was this based off of h2o just add water because the tail looks similar to it but blue
hailey_renee 221191 yes I took some inspiration from H2O! (Because it’s my favorite show)
Mytisch Crafts omg Mako Mermaids has one just like this tail!!
@@samanthamcmillen4289 yep!
