DIY: H2O just add water mermaid tail!

Anyone who watched h2o just add water wants to have their tails, right?
What if.... you can actually make one??!!
(ps. I made an updated version! check my channel :)
In this video I'm showing YOU how to make a h2o style mermaid tail!
And the coolest part? you can swim in it! The swimming video with this tail is already uploaded on my channel!

This craft isn't super simple, you need some crafting experience!
things I ended up changing:
Added monofin
added foam to hide heels
paint job over the whole tail
sewn scales on (if you want to glue, use e6000)

summer 2020 for sure!

€5 second hand swimfins
€30 fabric paint
€20 neoprene
€12 clay

how long does it take to make?
it takes about 2 weeks to make if you have all materials already, and kinda know what you are doing.

if you make this item for personal use I totally allow it! Personally I don't want people to follow these tutorials and use that to start a company or sell it to others. I put a lot a research in the techniques that I show here, and also in the techniques that didn't work and isn't shown. I always test A LOT before I make these tutorials and that costs money.
The point of these video's is that people can make a mermaid tail or necklace, etc. for a reasonable price If people follow these tutorials and use cheap and/or bad materials and sell if for way to much, people could get scammed (yes this actually happened) and that is not what I want.
if you want to use techniques shown in the video for selling tails, tops, etc, please contact me, because usually I am fine with it as long as you just ask :)

  • Imma be honest, I've been researching for months how to do a tail and it never occurred to me that the body could just not be made of silicone, it's gonna be covered by scales anyway (i get the need for the silicone to be attached to something and it's stronger with itself). I was also planning to sew some of the scales, glad to know it's not the worst idea. Can't wait to see the swim, I'd rather have an extended fluke like you did, but im concerned for the strength and balance lol

    • YoYSoloYo yep the body can be made out of neoprene! Silicone is also so much harder to put on and off. Also the extended tail is so weird! It kind of has a mind of it’s own (as seen as in the bloopers) I’m also very excited to make a swim video, because I have no idea how it’s going to swim!

  • when I saw this I’m not going to lie, I was like “okay, let’s see this person try to make like a knockoff tail that would be cheap,” since the people who made the original tails did it sequin by sequin, but the second I clicked on it I was like damn she really did that piece by piece.   • I have seen many mermaid fin making videos. One I already tried and it didn't really work out. And this fin looks so real! Since I speak German, I had to translate everything for myself, but this is really the best fin I've ever seen (also the best instructions). When I have the needed material I will start right away. But I already made the shape, only instead of one garbage bag I used three bags. PS: The top is also great!

  • Well I'm glad you used fabric to reinforce the silicone. I was worried it would tear. Still worried about joining the tail and body suit. I thought of going all silicone but I don' t want to over heat. Nice work. Thank you for the ideas.

  • Im in the process if making my tail and this video has helped soooooooo much i got alot done. I have my legs, forearms and feet molded. Have fin templates on plastic so i can sculpt on top of it. I have my fluke template ready

    • Linn Kohlbecher the fluke and fabric are glued together with silicone! And the zipper is below the backfin, they are actually 2 backfins glued on each side of the zipper!

  • Another amazing tutorial! Did you use anything to keep the silicone from sticking to the plaster/clay molds? I originally wanted to make the fluke of my tail this way but I chickened out at the clay sculpting 😬😄🧜🏻‍♀️🧡

    • Mermaid Estari hii thank you :) I forgot to mention it in the video, but I used a layer of varnish to keep the silicone from sticking!

    • Another thing you can use is vaseline. If you heat it up and brush it in the mold it keeps all the detail and is a cheap alternative to mold releases.

  • This is a gorgeous tail! I'm a guy, I love so much H20: Just Add Water tv show and I love so much the tails and I love so much orange shiny tails in general! :) You made an excellent job! The scales is a very nice touch, very realistic and beautiful! :) Thank you so much to have made this DYI H2O mermaid tail video I'm gonna rewatch it several times again! :) Speaking of tails, an SFX Costume designer made a me a gold silicone/sequins merman tail like I wanted and I'm gonna receive in a few days I'm so excited and another SFX costume designer making me a silicone merman tail which comes from a famous movie! Haha :) I will show you the photos of my gold silicone/sequins merman tail if you want to see it! :) In any case, very good job again; your H20 tail is stunning! :)
