  • For those of you that have followed me for a while, you know that I don't do many brand deals. That's simply due to the fact that I'd like to keep my channel as genuine as possible, and only I choose to showcase products I truly believe in and support. Most, if not all of the products I use, I am not sponsored by. That being said, showcasing a rescue zoo in Denmark is much more important to me and my values. Please subscribe to Niko and his channel, in the support of his many rescued exotic animals ❤ kzhead.info

    • Yes, I noticed that! I used to want a Newfoundland, but then we got a St. Bernard/Lab mix (the poor-man's Newfoundland, lol)... great dog, but he made it necessary to keep a slobber towel in every room, and I know a Newfoundland would be much worse. Our next dog was a Bernese Mountain Dog, which many don't realize is a non-drooling breed due to their typically non-fluted lips and non-sagging jowls (although some genetic lines run more massive and can be an exception). ICYDK: Generally speaking, when dogs drool, it's not usually because they produce more saliva than other dogs, it's because their mouths have a problem holding saliva (and/or they have some problem with swallowing normally, but that's less common). Sagging jowls allow saliva to pool up, where it thickens and leaks out of fluted/folded lips. The more sags and folds, the more and thicker the drool. Of course all dogs will temporarily produce more saliva at the smell or even thought of food, and even dogs without mouth sags and folds may drip a little, but it's typically thin and clear, rather than thick and frothy, because the saliva hasn't had a chance to pool up and thicken first.

  • Penelope is a dream, it always breaks my heart that xxl dogs like her don't live as long as the tiny ones, thankfully when you have a gorgeous mix breed like her you they're less likely to have severe health problems from their purebred standards. @CHLOCHLOLP@CHLOCHLOLP2 жыл бұрын
    • @@CHLOCHLOLP As well as their joints, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue not being able to hold up under all that weight. The best things you can do to help a dog like that last longer is to keep their weight down and give them enough regular moderate exercise to keep their bones and tissue strong (as well as heart). Unfortunately, these dogs usually only get short bursts of energy and then just want to lay around and sleep the rest of the day,.. and if you're a lazy (or I suppose very busy) human, it's too easy to just let them, lol.... And then of course some breeds, including many of the big ones, are just genetically more predisposed to cancer. I actually had some guy argue with me once in KZhead comments when I stated that mixed breed dogs are generally healthier than pure bred dogs. He just couldn't wrap his head around that. When I explained the genetics behind why it's true, he attacked my writing skills and said I wasn't making sense and was contradicting myself, lol. I told him to ask any veterinarian and they'll confirm I'm right... wonder if he ever did that, lol..... :P

      @TieDyeVikki@TieDyeVikki2 жыл бұрын
    • Mixed breeds are not more likely to be healthy than purebreds. Mixed breeds have mixed health issues. A well breed purebred can be health tested and is cleared of genetic faults, a mixed cannot, and no ethical breeder will produce mixed breeds. People think of purebred dogs as being less healthy because of puppy mills, who are not ethical in any way. Mutts are great dogs but they should only be rescued, not bred. (mixing is not the same as making a new breed btw, but that is another story.)

      @shadooper@shadooper2 жыл бұрын
    • Mixed breeds being more seen as healthy in general is only a symptom of most purebred dogs that you see being from puppy mills and not ethical breeders. Ethical purebred dogs are health tested and produced by breeders who care about the health and purpose of the breed. A well bred purebred has predictability in its healthcare needs and will overall cost less in average vet bills.

  • back in pre-plague times, the hospital where I work would get periodic visits from this newfoundland therapy dog and his handler. picture if you will, nurses practically throwing themselves at this shaggy beast for pets, the two of them going into hospital rooms for private visits with patients, and the sheer excitement that would dift down the halls whenever a particular unit would get blessed with a visit. obviously they haven't been back since the world fell apart, but I still miss them.

    • Oh man, I wasn’t planning on crying when I read the comments on this video. What a beautiful story. I can feel how much you love and miss your puppy. You must’ve been so proud of her when she saved you from a snake, especially since she killed it without even getting a scratch!! She must’ve been a force to be reckoned with, all wrapped up in a small package. I have a chihuahua right now that I rescued from the streets. My neighbor called me one day and told me to keep my other chihuahua inside because the pound was coming to get a stray chihuahua that’s been running around in the neighborhood for a couple months. Nobody had been able to catch her up until that point because she was using holes that wild rabbits had dug under the fences to run between everyone’s back yards. My family and I have always had a special place in our hearts for rescuing animals, so when I heard that the pound was coming to get her, I knew I couldn’t just let the pound take her. So I got my sister and a friend to help me catch her, and we chased that poor dog for over two hours back and forth between 6 or 7 backyards. We finally caught her by splitting up and we had one person wait on the other side of a bunny hole while the other two herded her towards it. The poor baby screamed like she was being murdered when she slipped through and was grabbed. She gave me the craziest side eye I’ve ever seen from a dog the whole walk back to my house. In retrospect, it makes complete sense that she kept looking at me like that. She was abused terribly. My neighbor said somebody moved off and left her a few months back. Once I got her back to the house, I fed her some canned puppy food, and I thought she’d never stop eating. Poor thing was starved, and she was COVERED in fleas. It was crazy. So after she ate, I gave her a flea bath and picked them out of her fur as best I could. What absolutely blows my mind to this day is that she figured out I was helping her. In the middle of a flea bath with water from the garden hose in my back yard, she leaned up and kissed me on the nose. I didn’t know how special it was at the time, because it took a few days to realize how terribly she had been abused. Originally, I was planning on rehoming her because I already had one dog, and I was about to go away for college. But after a few weeks, it became pretty clear that she wasn’t going to adjust to a new home very well, and she was so incredibly attached to me. I’ve had her for 9 years now, and she still is. She’s been the best damn dog I’ve ever had. She literally does anything I ask, as long as she understands. When I take her places, I carry her in a backpack carrier, and all I have to do to get her in it is open the backpack up and put it on the ground. She jumps right in it every time. She’ll jump in any bag, she really doesn’t care as long as she’s going. She’ll also let strangers pet her if I ask her to. The first time she did it, a friend of the family was wanting to pet her and was sitting on the couch across from me. I snapped my fingers and pointed to the empty seat beside my friend, and Lady got up from her spot beside me and walked over and sat next to my friend. My friend was stunned, and she said, “wow! She really does anything you ask, doesn’t she?” She really does do anything I ask. It’s very sweet. It’s like she’s never forgotten the day I took her in, not even for a moment. She’s gotten used to strangers now, and letting them pet her when I tell her it’s okay, because I started taking her to work with me at a doctor’s office. She’s still a bit of an odd dog because of the abuse, and she needs patience with some things, but she really wants to please. It honestly breaks my heart, because all I did was feed her and bathe her, and she thinks she has to return the favor with the utmost loyalty and obedience. But anyways, tell you all of that to say this: isn’t it crazy how a rescued dog never forgets what you’ve done for them? Your dog saved you from an actual venomous snake. How crazy is that? The bond between a dog and their person can be so incredibly deep, and it’s so special. It’s absolutely crazy and so incredibly sweet how they never forget, and they’ll love you their whole lives for it.

    • Animals always pay kindness back ten folds... I had the same incident happen to me too, only, it was my cat who saved me from a spitting cobra.. I took her home when she was a kitten, all drenched in the rain and abandoned at a bus stop near my house.. I named her Pudu (in case you're wondering, her name means grape in Korean, and it's my favourite fruit).. Pudu is still alive today but she's really old.. Most of her teeth has fallen out but she still demands to eat her kibbles so I always buy tiny kibbles meant for kittens and she just swallows them whole.. I dread the inevitable day when I would have to part from her, but for now, she's gonna get everything that she deserves and more from me..
