I'm not completely happy with the outcome of this haircut, but that just goes to show after 11 years in this industry, I still have a lot to learn.

    • Years ago I had a husky, Neiko. I started taking him to the groomers at 5 months old, so he’d get used to the smells, the sounds, other animals, being touched all over, etc. It was this big Plaza, and his groomer place was 3 doors down from my hair salon, and his vets office was in the plaza too. It worked out great. When he was almost 8 months old he got out of our yard and was hit by a car, he had a broken leg, he had to be recasted every 2 weeks. Bringing him to the groomers early on really helped with how he was at the vet’s, calm and cool. He was one of the groomers favorites to come in. He was so calm there she’d let him roam n he’d greet people and their pets being dropped off. Loved that boy so much. (The lady who owned the grooming place had 2 beautiful Afghan’s, she had showed this breed for years in the shows. They had this nook in the corner for them to hang out in, at times you’d walk in n think they were statues by how they sat facing forward. What’s funny is my husky boy would get up there with them, so you’d see these 2 beautiful regal looking afghan’s n then this ball of fur laying on his side with his paws up and tongue hanging out his mouth ljke a goofball. 😆)

    • My jaw dropped when I saw how matted his fur was. I don't understand people who get dogs, with a lot of fur, and not brushing them weekly. You just cant go a month without brushing them. I also don't understand people who think that it's enough to get the dog groomed once in a while and not brushing them at home. I own a samoyed mix myself and he's getting frequent brushes, which of course is very needed especially when he's in his shedding period. I couldn't imagine leaving him with so much matting..

      @handigirlXD@handigirlXD2 жыл бұрын
    • @Jay maybe when they got him being able to afford the best of care was not an issue? Especially in these days with so many people being off work or even completely losing their jobs or businesses through absolutely no fault of their own. I was at a very well paying job and ended up out of work for over a year and then finally got a job making HALF of what I had been earning previously. During that year I had a entire litter of Pyrenees puppies dumped on my property at about 4 weeks old... and I had to chase away the pack of coyotes that wanted to make them supper. I found an excellent home for 1 but the other two were so traumatized I wouldn't send them to the shelter because it would have been too much for them to handle and people wouldn't realize what good dogs they would be. I assure you, I did without in order to do the best I POSSIBLY COULD DO for them and the two other rescue dogs I already had. Wasn't as good as I had been able to do before, but they have never gone hungry or been unloved. Sometimes circumstances can be beyond a person's control, before judging them maybe just please take a little time to think about what they may be dealing with or going through. I had many days that my dog's were the only reason I keep putting one foot in front of the other.

  • A family friend breeds and shows Newfs, although she paused for over a decade when there was evidence of heart troubles in her bloodlines. She recently started fresh with dogs from Italy. Anyway it used to be fall tradition to drive down to her lakeside home and socialize the Newf puppies. 10-15 bowling balls of enthusiasm. And once they were tuckered out and put to sleep, we'd say hi to the grownups. There's nothing, NOTHING, like being next to a lake with 11 adult Newfoundlands (she only had one litter per year but showed many dogs). The tails! The love! The drool! I always picture Newfs in a big herd on a sunny autumn afternoon.
