  • When solving large dodecahedrons (5+ layers), I actually solve 6 centers on one half and then put in the edges. It doesn't really slow down making centers or edge pairing for the second half and ever so slightly speeds up later edge pairing because there are simply less spots the pieces can hide.

  • Well done! Personally, for minxes larger than megaminx, I like to complete F2L first before doing the rest. I find that it helps tremendously to have the lower half of the puzzle solved. Makes spotting pieces a bit easier and I'd imagine constantly rotating a puzzle as large as an examinx gets pretty tiring.

    @javeywavey@javeywavey Жыл бұрын
  • In my opinion, once you have made the first center (white) it is easiest to build all of the segments of the next several faces by using the opposite (grey) face as the assembly point. You avoid messing up the faces you already have assembled and you know where you need to go with the piece after you find it.

  • To get faster at big minxes, you should do this (it’s basically Big Minx Yau, but not really because you don’t have cross edges done before centers): Start by solving the F2L centers as per usual, and then solve the cross and F2L edges whilst inserting them in with the corners so that you have a fully completed F2L done and out of the way to make it much easier to find pieces in the rest of the solve and you have extra room to make edge pairs during F2L Then, solve the top center, followed by L5C. What I like to do is hold F2L on the left, but if you hold the cross on the right for Yau4 or are just more comfortable with it on the right, then do that. So, it’s basically like half/third/etc centers. Also, keep in mind that you can turn any of the outer layer S2L faces as there’s no cross. What I do is I solve the first half or more of 4 of the remaining centers and leave the last one on top and I usually do this similar to third centers, although it may be more efficient to do it differently on bigger minxes, so whatever works best for you. What I mean by the first half or more is everything except the R side, so on a Mebiminx, that would mean everything except the last 1x2 bar on the right, and on a Gigaminx, that would mean everything but the last 1x3 bar on the right, but then just whatever it is for whatever size puzzle you’re solving. 2x4 bar on Gibi, 2x5 bar on Tera, 3x6 on Tebi, 3x7 on Peta, 4x8 on Pebi, 4x9 on Exa, etc. Then, just solve the last bars like third centers on 5x5/half centers on 4x4, except there are just more and bigger bars on higher puzzles, and you can solve them in whatever order you want, but working from the back towards the front is the best just like how inserting into the back slots first during F2L on 3x3 is the best. So you can do the first bars on all of the 4 centers working from back to front and then the same for the rest, or just a whole center at a time, or a combination. You can do all of that with only outer layer U moves and inner layer R moves. Once you have the only center on top and final section of the center in front left, just solve L2C regularly without messing up F2L, and you shouldn’t need any moves besides U and inner layer R moves unless you have to do a commutator. Once all of THAT is done, just do edge paring and it helps to do techniques like slice flip slice back, replace solved edges with another edge pair that will pair up with something else when you slice back, out solved pairs on the bottom of S2L (that’s kind of annoying, but it helps to keep everything on the top and middle so you don’t end up not being able to find anything or having to take them out of the bottom later), and even freeslice in the top layers. You can also try to solve the bottom edges of S2L first so that you can insert them with the corners into Balint Blocks and get them out of the way, but don’t ignore good cases for other edges of course. And PLL parity for Mebiminx (4x4) is: (r U2 r’ U r U2) r2’ (U2 r U r’ U2 r).
