Hi! This is a brief comparison of Mermaids in the Sims 3 and Sims 4, introduced in Island Paradise and Island Living, yeah, first time trying one with only 2 games and if Sims 4 doesn't introduce other creatures this might be the case in the future with zombies, fairies, genies, etc. But for now here it is!
As I've said in my community post, I was having issues with lag in Isla Paradiso and I didn't solve it 100% so sorry for the mild breaks in animation, etc. If there's something I appreciated in Sims 4 it was the smoothness and the ability to fast forward time without worrying my game would crush.
Anyways, what do you think of the old vs new mermaids? I thought they'd be pretty similar but I'm glad they've got new powers and stuff, I would've loved it if they had ranks and more depth like vampires (honestly, the vampires game pack felt more complete than this whole expansion for some reason imo) but ooohhh well, let's just enjoy what we did get.
My opinion?
Sims 3's mermaids were revolutionary since that had never been done before and they're pretty damn solid and they can compete with Island living's mermaids, I like details like their transformation, the way to take care of their needs, their interactions like calling a shark attack are pretty neat but I found myself liking Sims 3's ability to actually visit underwater, it's perfect for mermaids to explore and it's just beautiful, I found myself missing that a lot in Sims 4.
Sims 4's mermaids are way more customizable than Sims 3's, you have a few tails to choose from and the new Sulani world is gorgeous, their new powers are great additions, the mermaid lullabies, the dolphin, the ocean threats, etc. Those powers are my favorite part of these mermaids but I wish they would've given them more depth.
So I think a mix of both's best aspects would've been amazing but if I had to choose one I'd say Sims 4's, but when it comes to the whole expansion? Sims 3 has soooo much content in that pack! But that's a story for another video, I'll see if i can compare the sea/beach in my next video and maybe include another game so I hope to see you soon!

Tilde 04 the sims 3 has such a better gameplay. I have all the sims 4 add ons and all but i still want to go back to sims 3 (started to play again yesterday and gosh... so much BETTER, so many possibilities, so complete)

Regardless of sims4 island living's shortcomings, I still prefer it to sims 3 island paradise. Sims 3 isn't really my cup of tea even if it doesn't lag (which it does).
Why you saying diving isn't relevant to mermaids when that was what makes then different. They could've easily made another lot and make it look like is in water with the loading screen system of sims 4

Not going under water is a HUGE disappointment. I really hope they make an Atlantis game pack with an underwater world for mermaids only with buildable plots with underwater specific items. The mermaids feel slightly incomplete without the aquatic life.

Sims 3 for a lot of reasons. I loved the mermaid scales they had on their legs, there was a legit kraken, you could dive with your mermaid and find treasures. There was movable water boat houses!! Not to mention there was different islands you could unlock. It was also open world Idk i just feel like it had more detail. I remember being able to own a resort/hotel as well in sims 3.

And the House Boat those things were the shit back in S3! Like the idea of moving around and just the look of them got to me and I was really hoping they’d use them in S4 was that they didn’t.

The worst thing with ts4 dlcs is that they get boring after playing a few hours. Open world is actually what was the best, and I will always miss that. Becouse running everywhere or knocking on the ppl doors with your sim was the best. And the diving with ts4 really dissapointed me :c

So you essentially is paying more for roughly the same amount of content just more fleshed out than it did. And plsss apartments?? I play sims 3 with all expansions and tons of cc on a hp pc with 8 gigabytes of ram and a regular intel graphics card and i experience mild lagging at most when i'm playing on a new town that needs to be set up.

There is one thing we all can agree about the sims 3.... even though it is a laggy game at times, the expansion packs never felt incomplete, like Sims 4. Yeah, there may be a few missing things that we wish were in game but are not necessities. In sims 4, they’re always missing depth in their expansion packs which seems like a scam for paying $40 for.
The Sims 3, they're more unique. Also for everyone saying the world is too laggy, you don't HAVE to play in Isla Paradiso to use the mermaid features, unlike The Sims 4 features aren't locked to the premade worlds.
Not entirely true. Isla Paradiso is the only world that has any diving lots, so if you wanted to use that feature, you'd have to settle for the constant lag and stuttering.

you do however need to use a world where the ocean is deep enough. Luckily, Sunset Valley is deep enough so you'll always have one option
I always see people say Isla Paradiso lags a lot, but I had played it before and it seemed to work fine with only minor lagging? Plus I have seen other youtubers such as IHasCupquake play there and it seemed to work just fine. Island Paradise is still, and always will be, my favorite Sims pack to date. Island Living was a huge letdown.

Sims 4's are basically regular Sims with the text replaced on a bunch of things that already exist in the game... hydration is literally just the hygiene need. Sims 3's are a new way to play the game because they actually bothered to make them different.

Sims 4 is like it gives you something cool but it always has something that is disappointing... Like, not being able to go underwater (not humans or mermaids), and not having a secret island (it could be like going to the secret places we already have). It is good tho

I'm with you, basically -- the customization options are better, and I like the different lullabies, but actually having an underwater area for them to live in and explore. . .Sulani would have actually been the PERFECT place for a secret lot of that type! Meeeh. . . What I get from these comparisons, essentially, is that to get the ideal Sims game, you need to put Sims 2 and Sims 4 in a blender, sprinkle in all the best stuff from Sims 3, and hit the puree button.

I think Sims 3 wins because of the way the mermaids interact with the world but Sims 4 wins because they're actually better, mermaids didn't really have powers in Sims 3

I said it before and I repeat: The Sims 3 >>>>>>>> The Sims 4. Everytime TS4 release a new expansion theres always something missing or just over all disappointing. I was never disappointed with a Sims 3 expansion.
Too relatable
the main issue with sims 3 was that the packs felt a bit disconnected from each other. For example, late night's instruments were never viable for the musician career of basegame. I heard that there were different teams working on each expansion, so if that's true that's probably why. Sims 4 feels more gelled together, as the features from, say, get together, apply to every other expansion activity. However, the actual content that we got from the game was infinitely better.
i’ve spent hundreds on ts3 and i don’t regret it as there’s so much to do when you combine packs like seasons, pets, and supernatural. everything is so much more fun in 3, but in ts4 it’s all about looks and its much more boring than 3 imo
The only thing I didn’t liked was that almost every club you went to on Late Night,was empty. A And you couldn’t go out dining (only in those rabbit hole restaurants)
I also liked TS3 expansions a little more, but there was an unfinished Egypt map (worls adventures) that made me dissapointed, if you remember..

TS3 wins. I got Island Paradise for the underwater adventure and I was so disappointed to find out I really couldn't do anything with it other than talk to dolphins and have the hygiene need replaced with hydration.

In Sims 4 when a mermaid sings it gives me a nostalgic feeling from when I watched Ariels voice being taken in The Little Mermaid.
Sims 3 is a winner for me, like everything in the game, I like sims 3 better ♥ The only thing the bothered me is that mermaids didn't show their tails when they are taking a bath but that's just a small feature. Sims 4 mermaid's swimming animations seems great but it's shame that the ocean floor is weird and they don't get underwater lots or that mermaids don't have scaly legs. Also the female tops are great, do someone know if any modder/cc creator converted this to sims 3?
Sims 3 has features that I wish were in the Sims 4.. And Sims 4 has features and mermaid designs I wish were in the Sims 3.. Both feel incomplete..

Sims 3 wins! The sims 4 mermaid tail is more pretty. Also like the teeth and cas in general. But the sims 3 mermaid is more fun. You can build an underwater house and many places to hang out underwater for them. You can swim in all worlds and experience more. They are more badass, because they can sumon sharks to kill your Sims. Also appreciate the colorwheel especially for being able to create very cool designs. Merchildren also have scales instead of looking like a totaly regular sim. Gameplay > Graphics.

Sims 4 mermaids are better, for sure. Although I like the scaly legs in human form from Sims 3. But Sims 4 mermaids look better, move better, have powers, etc. I also really love that we can create them in CAS. I would like to be able to go underwater with them like I could in Sims 3, but that's a problem with the expansion pack and not the lifestate itself.

The Sims 3 by a landslide! I prioritize gameplay over good looking! I pay for play not to take pictures.
I wish Sims 4 allowed us to freely customize the tail color as well as other details about our Sims (Clothes, hair, accesories, etc.) because I was pretty disappointed when you weren't able to do that.
Same, they could've done a color wheel without the textures, I still think they didn't include it because it was rushed and not because it would've been buggy, the game is buggy every new pack and that doesn't stop them from releasing it
Sigh ... Island Living looked so promising and different than other expansions but it's the same lack of content as always. They cut mermaids down to a bare minimum and that's extremly sad. They already introduced a power system in Vampires and Get Famous but didn't apply it this time even though they got complimented for this innovative idea. I hope they don't mess up witches/wizards as much as they did now with mermaids ... And even though there wasn't much to do under the sea in Sims 3 it's still hundred times better than making a rabbit hole out of it. Heck, Sims 4 feels like diving in Sims 3 in general - beautiful, but not much to do!
the sims 4 is more visually aesthetic, but it lacks the gameplay that the sims 3 provides for us
I really wish they would give an underwater feature in the sims 4 like in sims 3, actually being able to go underwater and explore would be awesome.
This makes me nostalgic for the color wheel.
Ainda acho que The sims 3 por uma série de fatores sempre vai ser melhor. O gráfico do The sims 4,o criar um sim e a facilidade de construção é bom. Mas poder personalizar todas as estampas e cores,ter um mundo aberto 24 horas e ainda explorar o fundo do mar e outras cidades em volta ao mundo sempre vai fazer desse o melhor TS
my only issue with this expansion in TS4 is that you can´t actually dive, but ignoring that the mermaids were really well done

@SCREEE I'm pretty sure what caused the lag in Isla Paradiso were the houseboats and some of the other house lots like the castle.

Sims 3 graphics for outsides and food Not the sims The sims in sims 3 have the grumpiest child looking faces 😂
And yes you can kill sims with the sea threat and the sirens call but it takes a long while
