♦ Sims 1 vs Sims 2 vs Sims 3 vs Sims 4: Cheating & Break-Ups
Hello there! This is a brief comparison of cheating/affairs and break-ups/divorce in The Sims. I tried to cover the basics and this is mostly focused on married couples since that does the most damage.
This was a learning experience cause I rarely make my Sims divorce or break up, I mean, they cheat lots but I make sure they're never caught lol, so it was news to me seeing just how easily Sims get angry over lovers, specially Sims 2 and I'm not sure if that's good or bad, what do you think? What do you appreciate in each game?
My opinion?
Sims 1 is very bland, marriage barely exists so I guess it's not surprising to see little to no reaction towards cheating, at least in my game, Sims didn't react at all, I thought it was a bug but this is quite common apparently. I think they didn't know how to handle relationships there cause you can't even break up and once fight your Sims is just gone! So it makes it hard to really want to engage with strong emotions.
Sims 2 improved a lot from Sims 1 as usual, Sims are super jealous and they know when Sims are cheating right away, you have to be careful to cheat on this game and it feels very real in that regard, breaking up results in Sims leaving again and I really don't like this, I get it's to give it more weight but it feels very forced and it's something that bothered me cause I had to get out and move them back in, cause c'mon! They're not that bad lol
Sims 3 followed Sims 2's lead but this time breaking up can be autonomous and the cheater ends up regretting it more than their partner, if you break up, that is. I like the addition of being able to cause break ups since it gives couples a chance for a peaceful divorce.
Sims 4 Sims are a bit less intuitive when it comes to cheating, they have to be really near to get what's going on, and again, breaking up doesn't have to be terrible for everyone, I liked the addition of the friendly breakup because, again, not everything needs to be dramatic and it's good that is a choice and not forced. Overall, my only nitpick is I wish Sims were smarter, you literally ask them about their lover and no one reacts and that's a missed opportunity.
So in conclusion, Sims 2, 3 and 4 have my thumbs up since they each brought something new, except Sims 1, but it gets a pass for being so old lol
But that's just my opinion, let me know what you think and I'll see you on the next one, I may finally get to apartments but I'm still unsure.

@@anaalina5964 Sims 4 was made in 2014 while Sims 2 was made in 2004. They had a decade to improve mechanics. And they downgraded a lot. They just now fixed the issue of sims washing dishes in the bathroom.

I don't get how sims "washing dishes in the bathroom" was an issue...? Some people do that in real life... My point still stands. Stop trashing Sims 4 when Sims 2 was worse at a lot of other things.
@@anaalina5964 Sims 2 was worse because it was newer. Sims 4 should be leaps and bounds ahead. I can't even get a sim to not stand in front of a fridge to eat when there are ten chairs at the table next to them.
@@emilynightray Sims 4 is leaps ahead to Sims 2 in my opinion. That problem didn't happen to me, even in a small kitchen, so I can't comment on that.

In 3 a relationship councilor talks to sims for like 10 seconds and they love each other again..... I love 3 but come on people do like it was super complex when it was basically sims 4 with better expansion content and worse social interaction it is a trade off not a downgrade

Sims 2 was emotion. I think Sims 3 open-world, creatures, and some other good features such as going to someone else's house. Sims 4 is only good for graphics in my opinion.

Sims 2 - The ex will continue to pester and bother you after they've been thrown out the house. They will steal your newspaper and kick over your bin leaving rubbish on the floor to make you ill, and stalk you every night.
Definitely way more realistic than the Sims 4.

In Sims 3 when the husband flirts with someone else, the wife and her brother get upset. In my game, the brother-in-law slapped the cheating husband while the wife was crying and shouting for her broken heart.

@@arieltales8952 it's what I found when my Sims seduce one of the sims of Marshall family in appaloosa plains, one of the kid from Riffin family saw it and instantly dislike my Sim and the sim my Sims seduced(they used to be in good relationship)
@@tsubrando As a conclusion, TS3 has the best and most complete cheating system. However, the Sims reputation changed automatically after having a lover despite not being witnesses of the betrayal and the cheated Sim would slap your Sim anyway sooner or later. I'd prefer the cheated Sim would know about the betrayal because an acquaintance in common told it or witnessed the partner flirting with someone else. Sims 3 also added second opportunities. However, there's a good thing about Sims 4 system. It considers the Sim is cheating and has a romantic interest just by using any romantic interaction while in Sims 3 it was necessary a love confession or a first kiss. Literally, in TS3 didn't matter your Sim had flirted with many others as far as you didn't use those social interactions, the game would still consider your Sim is faithful. I also like Sims 4 ashamed and mortified faces after being caught.
Sims 1 made cheating seem like a death sentence. Sims 2 made me never want to cheat because you genuinely feel bad for emotionally hurting the other sim. Sims 3 made cheating so funny, and entertaining because of how dramatic it was, really gave more spice and fighting in your gameplay. Sims 4 made cheating boring, because the sims are so emotionless and unaffected by it.

I can say tho I never play sims 4, but I will appreciate parenthood and the season's calendar, and maybe the magic trees are a bit cool. That'll be it for me. What's your favorite sims game.

I swear the only think Sims 4 did well and fleshed out was Vampires, and that's an occult that only the minority of the fandom (Including me) like.
In Sims 3, if a Sim's friend witnesses their friend's lover cheating, they can tell their friend about their unfaithful partner. Not sure if anyone else mentioned this. I used this a lot in my gameplay.
Oh yeah. Started back up playing Sims a while back. Decided to make three brothers for the university pack (one jock, one rebel, one nerd). Jock brother is the typical playboy had multiple gfs and the other brothers knew but were silent (more so because one of those gfs wasn't afraid to flirt with the rebel so my headcanon is the brothers think they deserve each other). Now when the graduated and back home, jock has once more began schmoozing and even got one of the other sims (Morgana Wolfe) pregnant (and then she died literally two days after giving birth due to electrocution and now have plans to use cheats to move illegitimate son into home as a headcanon that her husband found out who the baby daddy really is and ships him there). Brothers still chose to not say anything but the rebels wife who is a little miffed will if she has the option (may or may not be saving this option when I have jock and nerd brother's wife hook up). Gonna be fun

In the Sims 4 I played with the Caliente household and made Don have romantic relationships with everyone in the household. I then got Katrina and Don engaged, and planned out a big wedding where the chaos and drama would ensue. Because seriously, who would be ok with attending their mother's wedding, only to find out she's marrying your boyfriend? And literally, nothing happened, Dina and Nina got ever so slightly annoyed, and then were like 'Oh well, best eat this cake that's here' and then continued to flirt with Don. Emotions my arse, the Sims 2 had more complex and long lasting emotions!

I did nearly the same thing, the entire guest list was 15 of their other lovers, and just nothing
yeah in the sims 2 I had my girl sim cheat with a lot of guys behind her fiance's back and when her and the guy got married I invited a lot of her cheated loves and the guys kept fighting each other, ruining the wedding. And even after they married after the animations the guys who liked her were mad and continued to flirt with her. Oh, and the dude she married was with another woman married but divorced her, and then the woman he was with kept coming to the house messing with it and leaving because she was jealous. So that was realistic.

It's funny that in the Sims 3 toddlers could feel betrayed by their parents cheating, while in the Sims 4 even teenagers don't care about their parents cheating. From one extreme to the other.
They should've kept the betrayal aspect from TS3 and use it in TS4 for all kid groups except new borns and toddlers

What I love about Sims 3 was the reputation system. It was sooo intelligent and funny. I loved how you could be branded “eternally faithful” or a “cheater” and the whole town would know. They’d gossip bout it too 😂 also it wasn’t my sim cheating it would be my neighbors. The Sims 3 was so inclusive and so real ugh 🔥🌟
The spouse can just walk by the other chick and be like you cheated!!!! Suddenly you are are liable a cheater in you town.

My sim was cheater, and it was so fun. He was in relationship with 7 or 8 people. One woman was actually married and almost married on my sim. I was like "wtf?Yeah, i'm a cheater too, but girl, go away" and my sim's Sister beat her ass and kick her out of house.

I do really like The Sims 2 cuz they’re playing with memories. So it’s kinda fun to take a look at NPC’s households and learn their background stories. 😂 no hate but playing with emotions in The Sims 4 just doesnt make it memorable..

@@idk_who2320 Sims are downgraded a lot when you move from CAS to Live Mode in Sims 3. Sims 4's lighting is superior and Sims 2 has better texture quality and look identical to how they looked in CAS. I think you're not thinking in terms of graphics but of poly count and realism. A cartoony art style doesn't mean graphics are bad.
I wish Sims 4 had a memory system like sims2. I have 6 generations now and wish I could look back what happened before I stopped.

there is technically a system, but you have to take screenshots yourself and mark them as a memory, in which case they'll be associated with whatever memory the sim you were controlling at the time had, so...may as well not be there
After playing for 6 years I still couldn't tell you what happens when Sims cheat in the Sims 4 because it's so insignificant.
It's so rare to see your sims in a mood that isn't just constant smiles and happiness, and I can't think of one thing in the gave that actually has consequences. You know what the game reminds me of? A dystopia that's painted as a utopia to its inhabitants. We Happy Few style. Just take your happy pills and don't question anything ever.

I dunno but... Sims 4 just feels so dry, so lackey. It doesn't convey the same emotions as it would in previous games.
For real tho, Sims are always fucking smiling, even when they're just "fine" It's so dumb I feel like there should be more "fine" or "ok" moodlets, not only in vampires, but in basegame... Becaus let's be honest: who's always happy and smiling when all their basic needs are covered? Maybe there should be "fine" which is slightly more positive than "ok". Because Sims 4 Sims are always fucking smiling like Jeff the killer with their big ass mouths. It's so annoying.

"Just be friends" is also in Sims 3
One thing I love about the Sims 3 one is as long as the "Betrayal" moodlet is active, the sims have a really hard time to get along as most interactions will fail and the romance ones aren't even available. The betrayed sim will keep wanting to argue and slap autonomously too. So it's actually really challenging to repair a relationship and there's a major chance the other sim decides to break up autonomously after a few days.
Oh yeah, this game's relationship system is the best they've implemented imo. If a Sims is attracted to another it'll be easier to romance them and you can have one sided relationships.
Suddenly I really wish I could get TS2 and TS3 😔

Sims 3: "I just gained the ability to form a memory and I'm disappointed in all of you!" Sims 4: "I caught my mom cheating and now my family is splitting up... but this pizza is incredible!"
In Sims 2 you can catch your partner cheating by inspecting the date flowers that the cheaters lovers have been giving them. It’s not as impactful as being caught cheating regularly and it doesn’t create a memory, but as far as I remember it’s enough of a relationship decline to cause a breakup if you’re quick, since they will only be furious at their partner for about 4 hours and after that their relationship will have mostly gone back to normal.
I loved the "enemies with benefits" part.

Sims 2 for me is the winner. Stories are really fantastic. My heart ached when the child witnessed his/her parent cheating. Look at 1:02 had u felt bad for the kid? Never been truer in real life.
If Sims 3 was just a Sims 2 with an open world and an aging neighborhood, it would have been the best game ever.
I think sims 3 is the winner there are also a lot of details that players missed probably even more than sims 2.

In Sims 3, if your Sims cheat in public, their partner can find out from gossip. Also, if your Sim is caught cheating and their partner receives the "betrayed" modlet, if you don't try to repair the relationship in those five days, they will divorce! Oh and in Generations there is also a reputation system!
If they get divorce is there a way to get them back together after the 5 days are up.
I think at some point the reputation system became a base game patch - my sim in my current save got the "eternally faithful" reputation even though I'm only playing with base game
I don't care what Sims it is, I just wanna stir up drama in every sims family i use, like the dude will cheat then leave his girlfriend because he got her pregnant I--

Here’s some facts you missed about the Sims 3: -When two guys get married with the wedding arch, the hearts that fall are blue instead of pink. -If someone witnessed someone cheating, that person can tell their partner. For example, Bella and Mortimer are married. Bella cheats with Malcolm Landgraab, funnily enough, Malcolm can tell Mortimer that Bella cheated. Then Bella and Mortimer lose relationship if I remember correctly.
I actually tested both but neither worked for me, not sure if my games are getting buggy with so many save files

Another thing about the Sims 3. In my game, my sim witnessed her friend cheating on her partner (the friend's partner, not my sim's, and this was all a wedding no less -_-). She got the "witnessed betrayal" moodlet and IMMEDIATELY stopped being friends with her. A little while later, one of my other sims was talking to the friend's husband. One of the options was literally asking how their relationship was going. Yeah, if your sim witnesses someone cheating on their partner, they can legitimately ask them how things are. I don't know how it is with the other games, but that's just something I noticed.
I love that they also have the "feel sorry for [sim who was cheated on]" interaction when they speak to other sims. Such a cute detail.

I remember once in the Sims 3 I married a girl from University, and when they moved in together and I was able to play as her I had the option to confess to cheating. I had never cheating on him so I was really confused, but looking in my relationship tabs I saw that she had flirted autonomously with some random guy in her dorm way before her and the other guy were a thing lmao. The romance bar was almost 0 but the game acted like she had had a child with the man.

I think another point in sims 2’s favour is that teens have completely different / unique animations to their age , which doesn’t happen in sims 3 and 4 (Also they have the most realistic animations amirite )

In the sims 4 when you ask someone to leave their partner and they do, if they have kids you can move them to your house too, sometimes the parent that was left behind will send them gifts or letters, also call them, text them or visit them :)
i loved the memories/scrapbook features of the sims 2 and 3. it makes it so that each family has their own unique backstory. they really should've done something like that in sims 4
I don't have late night but my cheating Sims still get the cheating reputation. My loyal Sims also have the "faithful" reputation and after being married the "eternally faithful" reputation(I don't have generations). Also the "staying friends" also exists in the Sims 3 I'm pretty sure cuz I've used it
yes ask to be friends is definitely a thing, but I'm not sure how it affects relationship compared to 4,, and I'm guessing reputation was added in a patch at some point, like the attraction system

In Sims 3 even friends receive the betrayal moodlet. My sim was friends with a married npc couple and witnessed one of them flirting and got it. I think there is even an option to tell your friend that he/she has been cheated on.
I mean, that's realistic if you think abt it, I'd feel betrayed too if I saw my friend's s/o cheating on my friend for some other bimbo (no offense intended)

the buffs that happiness moodlets give are ridiculous,, it should be like ts3 moodlets where negative moodlets are prioritised - not only does it make it easier to see if your sim needs help with something, but it means not matter how many positive moodlets they have they're going to feel shit if something bad happens

I remember when I played sims 3. I went to university and flirted with everybody until 2 of my love interest met while I'm out dating the other one and then I was branded with a cheater reputation and kinda affected my celebrity status. Good ol days AND I also remember dating Geoffrey Landgraab and asked him to break up with Nancy. Then I would visit their mansion and pick a fight with her and their son 😌

I like that it's harder to catch cheaters in TS4. Back in TS3, when Generations was added, you could be accused of cheating because you had a romance with someone else in high school, before you'd even met your current partner!
The Sims 4 options aren't actually bad. The problem is the only consequence is a moodlet which is usually drowned out by all the positive moodlets, so there is essentially no consequence.

I have bought and played Sims 1, 3, and 4. My favorite is still 3, and still play them at least twice a year (yeah, I'm THAT busy these last few years). I just wish they had MBTI personality (maybe a mod that I can add). And maybe more traits per person, because 5 is too few to make a genuinely colorful personality I have in my mind...

Also in sims 2, sims can find out they've been cheated on through gossip and if they read the note on the roses (if the cheating sim went on a date). Also in university the mascots will sometimes flirt with your sim, if their partner sees they'll get a cheating memory
0:41 The trick is to get into building mode the second the bindle pops out and fence them in. They'll wander around their fence prison, shrugging with their bindle and occasionally fainting, forever

another thing with breakups in the sims 3 is that if your sims are arguing it can trigger an un-cancellable breakup. if a sim has the diva trait they'll be much more likely to do this

ironic considering the selling point ;) there is a bit of humour in some moodlet descriptions and buy mode object descriptions and stuff but it definitely feels lackluster compared to the other games. it feels like it lacks the slapstick spontaneous element
