Building Log Cabin Alone / Start to Finish / 3 Years in 30 Minutes
It's hard to believe that I've been working at the log cabin now for over 3 years. Doing most of the work by myself and doing it the way I envision it takes a lot of time, but I would not want to do it any other way. Here I've put together an overview of the last 3 years, cut into a 30min video. I've done a lot of work to get the cabin to where it is now, with over 50 hours of videos produced and I thought it would be nice to have a shorter video showing everything from start until now. I can imagine that not everyone would like to go through all of the episodes or my longer recaps at the end of the year. Although watching the episodes, gives a completely different understanding of how the building was done and it shows more into the details the process.

building my cabin was a life altering experience, i remember peeling logs at midnight in 12 inches of snow but i also vividly remember the euphoric feeling when i got the roof on.

A man cannot live forever but he can leave things behind that remind his legacy that he was here. Great work friend.... I am still finishing my cabin, i am 25 years old and i am almost done. This cabin has taken me some time but its been a life lesson and has had a huge impact on my life. Wish you the best and you made a great home friend!
Having watched this series from the beginning it brought back some great memories! I would urge anyone that hasn't seen the series to watch from episode one (envious of that!) as this 30 minute video does not do justice to the work Nik has put into this project and there is lots missing in this very short video. You will not be disappointed!

It is so amazing to just watch it grow. I was trying to put my finger on what makes it so special, and all of a sudden I realised: you are not simply “building” a house, you are sculpting it! It is far more a piece of art than a house.
If you appreciate the "sculpting" aspect, there's this Swedish kid, he's like 20 years old and he's building a log cabin by hand too, BUT he's only using hand tools. He only wants to use what our forefathers would've used, like hand drills, axes, etc. It's really incredible to watch. I'll go find his channel name if you'd like
Nik, Your work on this cabin brings joy to me. I have been a subscriber from the time I saw the first video. Ingeniously constructing the huge jig from lifted the logs into place was quite impressive. But the most beautiful part of all is realizing that here is a guy with a beautiful family building his dream home with help of true friends, all the while, you are taking the time to shoot video of the surrounding environment of nature, great photography of your family sharing in that hard work, and the beautiful country of Slovenia in the snowy weather and other seasons. I have thoroughly appreciated the meticulously, painstaking time you have allowed to make sure the work is done well and cutting NO corners by not compromising your work. I am watching intensely from America and enjoyed all the details and all you have accomplished with your hard work

Erik, glad to see you watching Nik's project. It is however of another nature different from yours. Nik does make extensive use of advanced technology and equipment , I th8nk mainly due to the monstrous size of his cabin. However, I have to give you credit for your PROJECT ( yes, with all capitals) the hand tools only type is very unique, and your engineering skills are as impressive as Nik's. I have watched since you cut down the first tree. At first, after a time, I was not sure I would have the patients to watch the build because it was taking awhile. I jumped into this channel much later, have enjoyed going back to the beginning on some episodes, this 3 years in 30 minutes is very enjoyable! I will go back to see others I missed, as I enjoy the detail of each video. I am AMAZED at what this young man has done, to watch his maneuvers with those huge logs is incredible!!
This is truly beautiful to watch I’ve had a log cabin on the lake for 30 years now. I always stare up at the logs and wonder what hands built this amazing place for me and my family to love. I feel so connected to my cottage and this feels like I’m at home❤️
It's been a long time coming Nik. I've been watching since you peeled those first few logs. For someone that doesn't do this for a living, you sure make it look like you've been doing it for a long time. As a retired carpenter I know that we always see the flaws in our own work but what ever flaws you may have had, the job looks excellent from my perspective.
Amazing how a 30 min video reveals more than 3 years of hard work. The thought and effort in this build is remarkable, not only that but some of the camera angles are clever too. You did a fine job Nik--much respect and admiration to you.

I've seen this video before but still watching now I love how you work hard to build a shelter for your family..I envy those people who are like you and your family and all those who are living their lives off the grid because it gives you the sense of freedom and fulfillment... it is my dream to do the same things as yours.. I hope my dream will one day come true.. a new life a new house off the grid a peaceful and harmonious life off the grid... working so hard into the woods as I can see as paid off... unlike me here working so hard in the city yet still struggling and I fulfilled, lots of complications and problems. Watching this beautiful journey has been the perfect antidote to the last couple of years. I’ve stayed up long nights transfixed by the sheer scale of this project and the skilful workmanship. Every stage of this build has been huge. Carrying out an inventory of suitable trees, bringing them down, dragging them back, preparing a means of storing them, stripping the bark etc etc. It’s an incredible achievement Nik, I’ll miss it when it’s finished. Inspirational, one of the best things I’ve ever watched on a screen.
Have watched from the beginning and would highly recommend watching everyone of them. The simplicity and remote surroundings make for an inspiring series of how to build a log cabin with not much more than simply tools. Keep it up Nik!

@@aniketdp6690 what's the problem? This man did the literal most sustainable, least carbon impacting house build one could ask for. Raw logs like this never make it to a mill. Therefore they were never processed, which means no pollution. Houses are made of 100s of different materials, all of which were processed and damaged the environment just to be created. You clearly don't know a thing about life if you think a log cabin is somehow more damaging to the earth.

Simply an outstanding job! So many awesome things that you put into this home. Originally one of your videos popped up while I was sleeping. The one were you were making the platform for the staircase, the upside down root ball. Made my decision to go back to episode 1 and watch all of um. Simply amazing work, and mostly alone.
