Her work really is top-notch with getting the viewer to actually pay attention and get lost within her world of stills. Really loved her journey from way back to now. i'm a canon shooter and really appreciate this video from Nikon with Amy Shore. Thanks, Nikon for the coverage and info on this tech.

  • When I started my photography (decades ago) I adopted that same [focus on a point - the re-compose] practice. The Z6ii and Z7ii have helped me wander a bit from that - and I think the Z9 might even more so... but old habits die hard!! Incidentally, much of my past photography was race car work. Great presentation of this new body. Thanks for introducing me to Amy Shore's work - she's a fantastic shooter.

  • Oh the temptation. I have a D850 and a Z6ii. Didn’t invest in a Z7ii as I just couldn’t get the same confidence in the autofocus system I have with the D850 when using a Z6/Z6ii. No doubts now.

  • I'm still happily rocking my D800 from 2012 and that machine changed the way I worked for both video and stills. I stopped most pro photography & film in 2015 but if I were tooling up now, 2021, I couldn't afford to be without this camera. Those low light portraits of the drivers at the end were the best for me.

  • This is great content! As a professional fashion and beauty photographer it's super useful for me to be able to see real world application of the Z9, as well as the more detailed auto focus capabilities explained comprehensively. As someone that regularly shoots fashion editorials for magazines such as ELLE, Grazia and L'Officiel, I often have to switch how the camera is being used considerably on the shoot. Meaning sometimes I need to shoot like a sports photographer (models on the move), other times like a portrait(close up headshots) or landscape photographer (model environmental shot). I currently have a D850 and Z7ii. The Z9 looks to combine what I love about both DSLR and Mirrorless, and then some!

    @JohnSansomPhoto@JohnSansomPhoto2 жыл бұрын
    • Can you explain to me how you how you have to switch considerably how the camera is used when going from portraits (close up headshots) to more landscape photographer (model environment shot)? If you're shooting for ELLE and others...I'm just not understanding what you mean by implying there's all these considerably different modes you're having to operate in.... Aperture priority...open up for portraits....done.....for models in an environment...aperture priority....fstop varies by how much of the environment you want sharp.....it's that simple. .....for models moving....uhhhh...aperture priority...and maybe move AF mode to servo.....that's all cameras for the last ten years..... so exactly what did this video teach you about the Z9 for your purposes?

    • Hi @@locophoto6881 , I hope you are well and thanks for your comment! It's been my personal experience that the type of subject that I photograph and goals for each image, can vary considerably, both on a specific shoot and from one project to the next. The point I was making (albeit generically) is that for my creative process (i.e. how I choose to create images) the Z9 has capabilities that I will be able to put to great use and benefit from, in my photography work. The detailed specifics for which, will vary greatly on a case by case basis and I'm afraid, are beyond the practical scope of being coverable suitably in the KZhead comments section. I also don't teach, offer Workshops, Masterclasses or anything of that sort presently either. Sorry 😉 It's always super interesting to learn of others experiences and approach to creativity! I appreciate you taking the time to share. Thanks.

    • @@JohnSansomPhoto Personally I don’t find it difficult to understand what you’re talking about at all. That maybe because I have often been in those very different situations myself and having to switch over to a very different way of shooting in a blink of a second. Only knowing your camera intimately well will allow you to do that rapid switch successfully, right? That’s one of the things I love about Nikon cameras that we can customize so much in them that we’re able to switch gear and way of shooting in a heartbeat. I’m sure getting to know the Z9 is going to take awhile. All the new and fascinating technology it offers have great potential but before it becomes part of our muscle memory we will not be as quick switching between different modes as we may wish. I think that’s one of the biggest reasons professionals stick to their trusted camera bodies for so long because they have learnt to operate them intuitively without even thinking. In many situations there’s no time to think but a sudden and instinctive reaction is all that’s being given to us to either succeed or fail. Sure, professionals are very good at preparing for a shoot, they have to be! But there’s always going to be spontaneous moments that falls outside of the zone of preparation, which could mean getting a real golden nugget, once in awhile, isn’t? So I think your comment is completely understandable and relevant in conjunction with a video of this nature. And I know it comes from a place of real experience. Cheers

    • @@JohnSansomPhoto Well John...I call B.S. to be completely honest....as let's face it....if you're offering workshops, Masterclasses, and the rest..then SURELY you can articulate to us here just as "effectively" as you must articulate to your students exactly what you mean by the highly dramatic claim of: "I often have to switch how the camera is being used considerably on the shoot. Meaning sometimes I need to shoot like a sports photographer (models on the move), other times like a portrait(close up headshots) or landscape photographer (model environmental shot). " The simple fact is each of those scenarios is covered by Aperture Priority mode, Autofocus on, and for models on the move you might turn on servo mode of AF rather than single shot AF...that's pretty much it. Your reply? You can't answer my question because: "The detailed specifics for which, will vary greatly on a case by case basis and I'm afraid, are beyond the practical scope of being coverable suitably in the KZhead comments section." Complete B.S. You can't even describe one scenario in which the mode changes are so "considerable"? And you're a teacher? What kind of teacher can't teach even one example? " I also don't teach, offer Workshops, Masterclasses or anything of that sort presently either. Sorry 😉 " I just looked up your channel and randomly picked three videos....there are no comments on your videos....no one is watching these "Masterclass" moments you're sharing?? Teaching a workshop in today's culture means nothing as we both know....anyone can teach what they know to people who know less...that doesn't make you an expert, it just means you've conveyed something to someone else and called it a "workshop"...others call it a lesson...and no....you've not taught a Masterclass...you might have attended one and perhaps that's what you meant, but again....not trying to be a bully but adult to adult...it denigrates the reputation of photographers to be so overly dramatic about simple simple things that have been around in photography for decades....fast AF and simple mode selections....there's nothing in the categories of photography you mentioned or that you do that involve having to "switch how the camera is being used considerably on the shoot." It's just exaggerating the process as if it's more intellectually or technologically challenging than it really is when in truth the work you describe and what I've seen of your portfolio is no offense more on the simple side in terms of difficulty. Not meant as an insult sincerely....but front lighting with a telephoto lens cropped to a headshot is dead simple...as are outdoor ambient lighting shots with a battery powered strobe with a model walking at normal pace. I do look forward to hearing from the "Master" though with an example of how dramatically you have to change modes on your camera to go from landscapes to shooting portraits....

    • Great comment! Personally, I would like to see a Z8 with a “huge” sensor, exactly same body as Z9, NO VIDEO, same battery capacity as Z9, much slower frame-rate. A camera completely dedicated to highest image quality and resolution possible but with all the latest focus technology and no mechanical shutter. A camera dedicated to focus stacking, time laps and even panoramic captures (if that’s possible?). A camera that can truly compete with medium format without costing an arm and a leg. That’s what I wish for Christmas, ha ha!

    • This is a question that’s very interesting to me too and I imagine to millions of others as well? So far we haven’t seen much in the way of reviews concerning IQ but these are still very early days and I’m sure it will come as soon as people are getting real copies of the Z9 in their hands and start taking real photos in raw that they can independently examine on their computers. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the Z9 produces at least as good results as any previous Nikon camera though. Traditionally, flagship cameras prioritize hi-speed and low light performance with a lower megapixel count over dynamic range but with this hi-density sensor in the Z9 I’m not so sure how it’s going to perform in real life? I’m starting to get the feeling it’s a camera that could be described as the jack of all trades, but still too early to say yet? Exiting times up ahead, in any event!

Increased focus points on all lines, Expeed processor bump on all of them by 1-2 generations, nothing less than Expeed 5. D5800+ gets more focus points in OVF vertically (when holding the camera in landscape) so portrait shots can be out of the middle of the frame. D3800 and D5800 get better subject tracking and face detection, 60 focus calculations per second D7800+ Liveview performs as if it were a Z5/Z50 with better tracking and face/eye detection--60-90 focus calculations per second with either system. D3800 keeps stationary screen. Improved sensor for better iSO performance, no change in resolution. Expeed 5 processor. D5800 keeps articulating screen. Improved sensor for better iSO performance, no change in resolution. Expeed 5 processor. D7800 gets articulating screen and Expeed 6, FPS and video capabilities remain the same. Improved sensor for better iSO performance, no change in resolution. New battery grip. Regains dual UHS-I slots. D580 gets the Z9's screen, menu touch function, 1-2 FPS increase, D6's focusing system and the focus points in OVF are corner to corner, just about. Gets Expeed 6. Improved sensor for better iSO performance, no change in resolution. Compatible with previous battery grip. Records in 4K60. D680 gets articulating touch screen. Same sensor as Z5, Expeed 6 processor. Up to 4K30 video recording. Dual UHS-I slots. Face and eye detection in live view, face detection when using group focus mode. New battery grip. Focus joystick. No top screen. D780 mkII gets articulating touch screen. Dual Expeed 6 processors. Improved eye and face autofocus, subject tracking. Keep card slots, can do up to 4K60 (cropped) but only with V90 cards. New battery grip, matches up to D680's. Focusing points cover 70-80% of OVF. Full silent mode available. Top screen is same as on Z series. D880 gets same screen as Z9. Focusing points cover 80-90% of OVF. Dual Expeed 6 processors. Live view gets vastly improved eye and face autofocus, better subject tracking. Uses improved battery grip that just houses 2 standard batteries instead of getting everything to take D6 batteries. FPS increased by 2, no boost with grip but grip unlocks 4K120 (cropped), 4K60 is full sensor width. Full silent mode available. Top screen is same as on Z series. D3800 and D5800 use a new EN-EL14b battery with greater capacity. D7800+ use EN-EL15c. All cameras get USB-C 3.2 gen 1/3.0. D880 is capable of up to USB 3.2 gen 2. All can charge via USB-C PD. Mini HDMI stays on D3800-D7800, full size HDMI on D580+. 10-bit 4:2:2 recorded internally on D580+, D580-D680 can do N-Log externally; N-Log and HLG with D780+ internally. All max frame rates are rated at RAW 14-bit, lowest compression--increased compression increases burst rate by 1 per step AND increases buffer size. D6 gets discontinued, pushing users to Z9. D6 trade-ins end up being like 70% of MSRP when purchasing Z9 + FTZ + 1 lens, as long as it's in working order--shutter clicks be damned. After final release, commit to 3 years of making these new bodies. Afterwards, it's Z and Z only. 10 years after final camera's release date, F lenses either get discontinued or drop in production to every 10 Z lenses made, only 1 F lens is made. And any duplicates between the mounts get discontinued, for sure. Sorry, ADHD at work with this and I've been thinking how I'd market and plan their lineup for a while.
