Hear me out, we build a massive lake for electric eels, constantly put prey in there for them to hunt and harvest the electricity to power homes. It’s a win win. We get clean energy, they get a never ending supply of food.
That's actually one of the best ideas I've ever heard.
Nah that wouldnt work in practice, it would cost more energy to keep those eels alive than you would receive from their shocks, remember that an eel only shocks for a split second which amounts to a very little amount of electricity compared to sources that constantly give us energy

Fact correction for timestamp 4:17 The electric eel never was involved in the invention of the battery cell. Galvani a physicist, was working on 'animal electricity', using different metals. After observing a frog's leg was still twitching after it was dead. Along with Volta, the latter, who worked out that the frog's leg was nothing to do with the 'electric', swapped it with brine soaked paper. Soon after, the Voltaic Pile was invented, and essentially the first electrical cell. The electric eel species Electrophorus voltai, described in 2019 and the strongest bioelectricity producer in nature, was named after Volta, though.
Galvani and Volta were certainly influenced by the earlier research into electric eels. So no, the electric eel wasn't directly involved but it was indirectly.

@@hellomark1 yet he also said the first e. Eel didnt do that. Also, I dont think it needs enough charge to trigger the tesla coil for electrosense. I mean, sharks and platypuses(or platypi, whatever it is) do it and they dont create enough for a person to feel a shock in the water. It was probably the hunting medium shocks it uses to stun smaller fish. Or it was indeed warning shocks

That’s not an animal… that is a Pokémon
"Murky" water probably has a high electrolyte load and why this animal could successfully evolve in that way to assist in environmental sensory, feeding, and defense against predation . No mention about the conductivity of the water in that tank which could have been deionized to some extent for safety concerns while making this video. Put a pound or two of salts into solution in the tank and the shocks would probably be much worse. Those organs they mention are modified muscle tissue that can move ions through membranes to create missive amounts of electric potential. It is active transport accomplished by specialized proteins using energy derived from ATP. All living things do something similar to this on a much smaller scale and do it all the time as part of the functioning of just about every vital system.

Well even if horses are bigger than humans, they cant stand as much electricity as humans. Humans can stand in general more electricity than other land mammals, cause we are on two feet and other land mammals on four. Electric shock is such a strange kind of pain... I remember shorting an electrick drill, getting 220V through my right arm, and it took almost 2 days before the pain was gone, and everything worked correctly again, with two fingers basicly being paralyzed for a few hours before they started to work at all. And even if i was fine otherwise, my boss dropped everything and took me to the E.R for a checkup, and besides the odd weirdness from my heart you might expect shortly after a shock like that, the doctors deemed me safe to go home and ride out the pain myself, and just look out for any symptoms of problems with my heart... Electric shock is no joke, and complications can sneak up on you!

In the wild, when electric eels are angered by a terrestrial animal, they'll jump out of the water, wiggle through the air, and wiggle up against the animal to significantly amplify the shock. It is incredibly deadly, so when locals see electric eels in rainforest rivers, they either avoid them at all costs, or try to kill them with as much distance and protection as possible. A truly fascinating animal. It's no surprise how much mythology and folklore surrounds them.
Is dat really true ??
@@OfficialJJayRap | Yep. You can look it up, and you'll find some studies and videos of the phenomenon.
It is true that they jump out of the water to attack, however they are not deadly in the slightest to humans. If you have a very weak heart or have pre-existing conditions it can stun you long enough to drown you but that’s it. The average human would shake it off very easily, the reason for this is the power delivered. An electric eel on average will produce about 500 volts at one amp, this is only a 500 watt shock. Compare this to a 240v outlet on a 20-35 amp breaker which will be a 4800-8400 watt shock, much much more deadly. Basically, this guy is completely overreacting for views and shock factor, if they react like this to an eel imagine if they accidentally touched 240!
@@orangesforall2053 mark totally looked like he was shaking that shock off real "easy" there. Literally we all can see a full grown man go to his KNEES from just poking the god damn thing. I find it interesting how your ears were red. I was badly electrocuted back in 1994 from an induced current from a 240k volt tower. At contact, I pretty much only remember my work boots at my face and the thought of bad then I woke up on the ground with what I was told was 12 feet from the pole where the induced current had been created. When I came to, I had no use of my arms. (was my right hand that made the contact) and could not stand. This occurred at North York Branson Hospital in Willowdale Ontario where I worked. I remember a young woman I knew while very upset calling out a window and saying that help was on it's way. Another woman approached me and I remember someone yelling "don't touch him" and then I passed out again. I was told that they heard me make a noise when I got electrocuted like someone stomping on a dog or a cat. The woman that was upset and yelling out the window heard the noise then she figured about five minutes later she was curious and looked out the window to see me lying unconscious on the grass. I knew this woman very well since we were kids ans she was so upset I was dead. I was rushed into the hospital into ER. I had torn muscles in my back and damaged the nodes on my heart. One odd thing was that so many of the nursing staff and the doctors that came in would grab and feel my ears because they said they were so incredibly red. This video made me remember it again.
I had an experience like that as well with a 240v outlet. I was pulling it from a junk trailer but the power was still on so I just shut off the main breaker and in my stupidity I assumed the power would be off but little did I know the outlet was wired directly into the meter bank. When I undid the wires I pulled the whole thing through the metal hole and both the hots touched the casing and I saw a big flash and woke up on the ground. I got incredibly lucky I didn't die as I was alone. A big learning experience to ALWAYS double check with a voltage meter to make sure something is off. Will never be making that mistake again.
@@got2strpk This situation with me was quite the oddity because the wires were not connected to anything. The current was induced from the towers. I never dreamed it would be live as I had touched numerous times in the past while cutting grass around the pole. They changed the code here because of my incident and two weeks after me a guy lost two fingers by a similar situation so from now on the wires have to be terminated at the top of the pole and grounded. 240 really hurts too if it does not kill you. I used to work as an electrician and once touched my pinky on a 600 volt bus bar while doing some work. My arm hurt for about three days.
@@davebrittain9216 you've got some really interesting stories man. I'm curious has the damage from the tower healed completely or is there any lasting injuries? I can't imagine torn muscles ever heal well.
@@got2strpk Permanent damage to my lower back and I have a ECG that looks like a man 20 years older. The electrical signal to my heart is messed up they figure what they called the "nodes" are messed up. Nodes are the electrical connection from the brain to the heart.
My ex was an army kid and when he was living in Germany as a toddler. In their apartment there was a 220 volt transformer that powered the whole apartment (this was in 1980 and the apartments were old). His mother was vacuuming and the cord had come out from the wall. She told me that she had turned around to walk over the other side of the room to plug it back in and she hears "I help. I do it" and before she stop him, he'd reached down and was trying to plug it back in. She said as soon as he made contact with the transformer, it shot him across the room. He had blood coming from his ears. He was rushed to the hospital on the military base and the doctor said that the only reason he didn't die was because he had socks on. I THINK that's correct. It has something to do with completing the circuit. Either it was able to or it wasn't. I can't remember and him, his mom and his father are all dead now. Anyway, the only permanent "issue" he had from the incident was that his hands constantly shook. It looked like he was cold or had low blood sugar. If he ever had to hold his hands still, his head would shake. I always wondered why that was, like how they were connected. He and his mom always said that it was because he fried the nerve endings in his hands. Ironically, he was a phlebotmist for awhile and graduated 2nd in his class. But the whole point was that his mom had talked about his ears being red and even years later, they were prone to reddening quite easily. I'd never thought about it until I saw this video and this comment.
