He's so far behind his time that he's ahead of his time.
Came full circle lol
Full circle is where it's at!
It's not that he's ahead of his time, it's that everyone else is traveling in the wrong direction... all these feminists and safe space sjws and other forms of mental illness. If you had a rabid dog you'd put it down. Have a rabid human apparently you let them live.. that's truly backwards if you ask me.
@@livedandletdie I think you have it on a very good analogy. We used to understand that we do things for the common good. Now it is pull apart and destroy. Each time we separate a little further based on race...gender...economics...income...We waste more resources in this country on total BS and we don't seem to get that.
It's called timeless.
Norm MacDonald has surpassed dad humor and has entered grandfather humor territory.
you're onto something there. he is an anti-anti-comic. he is self-aware, completely confident, extremely intuitive, empathetic to his audience, and a master of delivery. comedy is almost secondary to his whole presentation, but somehow, it makes the comedy better than anything else out there for how unique it is.
Superb vintage, ain't it? :)
@@BlueFinch I think what sets him apart is how much he can do well. He goes into all these clean bits just to set up a dirty joke. But, that's not all he does. You never really know where Norm is going to go and that unexpected suprise is a big part of comedy.
Blue Finch exactly
He's always been. It's more apparent now that he's ACTUALLY old, though
Norm is proof that the actual joke is less important than the delivery
Thank you for getting Norm. A lot of people miss this about him. That's what made him great.
The journey is always more important than the destination.
Comedy is almost entirely about the delivery. I can tell a really funny joke and it falls flat. As I can’t deliver it.
Actually, he is proof that they’re both important. A bad joke with amazing delivery is still bad. A great joke with poor delivery falls flat. But a good joke with flawless delivery is something to behold.
I remember when he brought his brother on Weekend Update on SNL to fill in for a minute and said to him “Not so easy is it?”
" Until I met my wife I always felt incomplete , now I'm finished ". I'm gonna surely say that line on my wedding day 🤣🤣

@Bink "SOCIOPATH" WAY off.
imsnb you just defined the word genius.
"simultaneously sound like" That's the act. Norm's said most audiences don't like comedians who are smarter than them, so he talks in an ordinary conversational way a lot. He now has about 42 years of standup experience at that. And he dropped out of high school to do jobs like garbage man himself. But now he's one of those guys who own the OED, and he often throws in a subtle point or his literacy or a third layer of absurdist humor*, because he can hardly help it or because a juxtaposition makes his comments funnier. *Everyone likes grapes.
He's a dirty dog, that's how.

I love how Norm keeps using the grapes metaphor until Conan becomes a bit annoyed. The mischievous glint in Norm's eye when he says, "... people that like grapes!" tells the whole story. Wonderful.

Conan always knew where Norm was going and always let it happen lol
Can you explain the joke?
@@MarceloRamos-uk8cd Most people would assume that the doctor told him to perform oral sex on his wife in order to wake her up. It's obviously not something a doctor would actually recommend, but it almost seems like it could possibly work. The punch line shows that Norm thought he was supposed to make his wife (who was in a coma) perform oral sex on him. It's funny because it's a surprise and is also poking fun at Norm himself. It's ridiculous for him to believe this would wake her up, or that it would even be a reasonable thing to do to an unconscious person. It also plays into a common joke that men are selfish and only like to receive oral sex, not give it. Norm also liked to push the boundary of what could be said on Conan's show, and this joke did that as well. As with most Norm jokes, his delivery is what really makes it funny. The joke by itself is just mediocre.

@@jayzenitram9621 I think the anticipation was more so a matter of "I know this joke, and I know the punchline, and I can't believe this son of a bitch is trying this..."
He laughed hard at norm’s chairman of the bored joke too
I can’t describe the joy that the first “ya dirty dog!” brings me 😂😂
Can’t believe I’ve only just discovered Norm Macdonald after 43 years on this planet 🤦♂️😩. ‘Wife in a coma’ is genius and has me in stitches every time! So sad he’s no longer with us as his humor and delivery was just amazing to me
That 'Doc, she's choking." is literally the greatest joke I've ever heard.
Was the greatest joke* rip
That's modern medicine
@@marcogutierrez107 The joke lives on.
I thought Conan was going to fall out of his chair he was laughing so hard!! 🤣🤣🤣
What does that mean? Can someone explain??
At 4:13 Conan literally starts shaking to hold in his laughter when he realizes what the punch line will be. This might be the best clip on KZhead.
I’m sure he heard the joke in rehearsal already.
@@dBro4769 Norm is one of the few that Conan allows to skip any rehearsal/pre-inteview questions.
That laugh has to be a combination of knowing the punch line and not believing that Norm is actually going to do this bit.
That absolutely ruins the joke if you have to rehearse it
@@GreatLakesLogger When he did the "moth joke" he didn't even know he was gonna be in for another segment, so he had to come up with something and try to drag it out. It's one of my favorites
The best part is the subtle beginning - “here let me read it” - *reads silently* - “well that’s rich”
😂
“Before I met my wife I felt incomplete now I’m finished.” That’s most powerful ‘Dad joke’ I’ve ever heard in my entire life. RIP Norm you were truly one of the best Canadians this world has ever had.
I just heard of Norm's passing. Sad, he was truly a unique soul. RIP Norm.
It’s the little things, like when he says “let me read some of it” then proceeds to read it silently. To himself. In front of an audience. These small details are what separated him from everyone else.
Andy's "Oh yeah" response to Norm's "... go through that charade, keep appearances up" is an underrated gem in this interview.
The way he glared at him lol
A Norman show with Andy as his sidekick would be good 🤣
@@Vamos82 oh boy
@@Vamos82 Boy, do I have some unfortunate news for you. I don't know if you're a history buff, but...
@@LindysRuffians context? Did they have a show together?
this is so good, what I don't see in the comment section is people giving more credit to Conan for the way he sets Norm up for the jokes and also the way he reacts, the chemistry is real
Norm was that comedian that would keep quite, lay low, and all of a sudden come out with a new project. I was so looking forward to that. I would gladly rewatch his old material whilst waiting on a new show, stand up or an interview. Now, I can only rewatch his brilliant works and laugh. But seeing him so happy and funny on his last Conan appearance did bring a tear to my eye today...
He idolized Rodney Dangerfield. He's doing his best impression.
I just heard someone tell a story of norm and rodney meeting. Apparently norm was trying to tell rodney a joke, and rodney just looks him dead in the eye and says, "you know man, I'm not big on jokes" and walks off 😂😂😂
@@michaelking2050 this happened to another guy working for SNL, Norm was in the room with them and convinced the guy to tell Rodney the joke. 😂
go watch Norm MacDonald Live when he has Jerry Seinfeld on. he does the best Dangerfield impression you will ever see or hear
I tell ya Rodney and Norm are telling wife jokes as we speak.
Oh man yeah I didn’t realize it now but you’re 100% right
3:54 the face he pulls after saying that you won't hear this from any 1935 comic
love that part
a master of the dramatic pause
Every facial movement he makes from that line until "doc, she's choking" is golden.
Norm is The Comedic Genius Of All Time! I can watch his performances repeatedly and laugh uncontrollably every time. There is no other comedian who has mastered that effect on an audience before. He truly is a comedian's comedian.
*"Doc, she's choking"* 🤣😅😂
