  • Keir Starmer is a Tory politician wearing a red rosette. He attacks GPs as lazy and standing in the way of change when they're doing over double the work they were 10 years ago, the NHS is suddenly not underfunded, but just 'underperforming' and in need of privatisation (known to be one of the issues that is causing it's decline, alongside staffing - which is directly linked to pay and working conditions). So staffing - he wouldn't pay nurses a living wage during a cost of living crisis and 40,000 vacancies, he's not going to loosen the purse strings at all - so cheer for Austerity 2.0 (known to have shrunk the UK economy and thrust millions of people below the poverty line). Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are both supported by many past Tory ministers as a (quote) 'safe pair of hands' to continue their legacy. Keir has many friends in the Tory party, which just proves that it's all a game to him. How can you be friends with someone who votes to prevent hungry kids being fed during a global pandemic? Ministers including the ex chancellor George Osbourne, the godfather of austerity are cheering him on. Keir is supported in his stance on migration by Nigel Farage, he's been delighted to receive the adoration of Jeremy Clarkson (saying it proves Labour had changed - changed into what, a racists, misogynist white middle aged fever dream?). Keir received awards from the most right wing press in the UK - The Spectator no less. He won't support strikes, won't support Unions in their talks, or talk about the stagnation in public sector pay and attacks on working conditions, but he likes football and a pint, and his dad owned a toolmaking business, so ignore all of the above...

  • If he genuinely cared about people not being able to pay their bills he would campaign for an even higher minimum-wage increase. He would campaign for higher tax-free personal allowances. He would campaing for a much higher marraige tax allowance for couples with only 1 income. He would campaign to let poor people access live tv without a license fee. He would campaign to make council tax bands fairer. He would campaign against Sadiq Khan taxing the poorest people in London traveling to work. Instead he wants to leech even more money from those who are genuinely the poorest in the country and give it to people in professions where even the starting salary is at or above the national average salary. People should be able to expect minimum service levels from emergency services (as they do in many other western countries). If Labour thinks the bill proposed by the tories is crap (which it probably is), they should tell them the changes needed to make it fairer and get it through parliament. As it stands they're wasting time by sitting on the fence and rejecting what is proposed while also failing to acknowledging that the public deserve some sort of minimum service guarantee from emergency services. I'll judge Sunak and Starmer based on their manifestos because I've had enough of hearing a bunch of vague statements which never translate to anything good on the manifesto. I would have voted Corbyn if he stuck with his promise to fund his public sector plan by taxing the biggest corporations, but he folded and I think Starmer will too when he realises how much it will cost to fund pay rises for everyone who is on strike, as well as everyone who will inevitably go on strike once they realise Starmer is easy to sway. Still waiting for Starmer and Labour to tell us what their magic trick is after they 'got around the table'. Still waiting for Starmer to tell us what the target Ambulance times would be under a Labour Government. Still waiting for Starmer to tell us if the windfall taxes on energy companies will be on the Labour manifesto.

  • The intention to encourage foreign investment is a mistake. By definition foreign investors expect to take out more than they invest. Foreign investment in areas of new UK technology are likely to see the rights to new inventions lost to the UK. This is particularly important in new green technologies. As with all government efforts to encourage investment, it is the tax payer who funds the risks, while the investor takes the profit. A profit that is invariable taken out of the UK economy and exported to offshore accounts. Any substantial foreign investment also provides foreign actors, (governments) with leverage over the UK, opening up the our government to state controlled blackmail, with the threat of withdrawal of the investment and the potential closure of an entire industry, with all its associate skills and technology. Foreign ownership of UK companies is not the panacea that will provide economic growth. It is a recipe for a tenant nation, of economic slave labour. By all means foster investment in new technologies and industries, but source that investment within the UK. The reason that many of our industries are now foreign owned, is not because of poor quality workers, but poor quality, inadquite, greedy, myopic, self serving, British managers. This has been repeatedly proven by the likes of the car industry, where foreign management was able to produce world class manufacturing using a UK work force.

Labour's tax policies are barely a shift in the needle of the £180bn per annum public sector net cash requirement. The real issue is intergenerational fairness and obviously with the conservatives that is never going to happen, but at the same time I wish Keir would at least acknowledge this problem so that there's a chance of creating something that can work long-term.
