Sir Keir Starmer has written to the head of the civil service to request the start of access talks designed to prepare officials for a possible change in government, ITV News can reveal.
We understand that the Cabinet Secretary - Simon Case - received a letter from the Labour leader within the past few hours and that talks are likely to start by the end of the month.

  • The media decide who is 'controversial'. The fact that they're labelling Starmer as boring should be ringing alarm bells but instead it looks like many are about to fall for it. How Orwellian. Oh, and on the topic of the video, i don't see why he needs to book an appointment with the civil service to enact his plans, they've been working alongside labour for years.

  • I think most people have had enough of the current government but I don't think this guy attracts enough support for him to be able to form a majority government, meaning we're back to an impotent minority government or coalition. Sunak was right in that things need to be done differently if we are to achieve results, but what he did differently unfortunately didn't work and I doubt this guy will have the numbers in the commons to get anything done. Back to another bullsh*t five years again I suppose.

  • For me, he's not aggressive enough. I'm with Mick Lynch: it should be about taking from the very wealthy and redistribution to the poorest. So far, the lowest in society have suffered the most. I can see why Starmer is being careful, but Britain 🇬🇧 could do with a radical third option and reformed electoral system. As between the Tories and Labour over the last few years, the UK has got poor value for money and under the Tories criminal under investment in infrastructure, houses, and public services 😢

    • This is a standard thing to ensure a smooth transition of power and has been in place for decades. The Tories had it ahead of the 2010 election. Miliband and Corbyn would have had the same deal. Unlike America where they vote for the president in November and he takes over in January, were Starmer to win a majority he'd become PM the day after the election.
