Sir Keir Starmer has written to the head of the civil service to request the start of access talks designed to prepare officials for a possible change in government, ITV News can reveal.
We understand that the Cabinet Secretary - Simon Case - received a letter from the Labour leader within the past few hours and that talks are likely to start by the end of the month.

I don't know Starmer and I can't speak to his effectiveness or politics, but as an American, trust me, when it comes to politics, YOU WANT BORING.
Why?
@@clivet3252 You really need that spelt out to you?
@@Bighenlittlecock yeah
@@Bighenlittlecock boring people are dangerous because they're not put under the same scrutiny and they can do lots of sneaky things
yes we do keep to your own politics we dont want trump for sure
Boring some of you say ?He is a political leader not a television personality. What do you want a Trump like leader? Get a grip .
The country that voted for Burris Johnson? It’s clear that they do
And he’s not boring , he’s actually very witty. If anyone was boring it was Liz Truss
To suggest this is 'the final nail in coffin' is quite fankly ridiculous. It's been hammering away for many years, especially when we take into consideration Sunak was never voted for. Democracy?
I don't know about you, but boring sounds bloody marvellous after all the shite we've been going through with the Tories! Give us a GE now, please!
God I’m scared for this country.
He’s got my vote.
Said as if you have a choice.. 😂
He’s got mine too. Ready for a Labour landslide
I find this whole charisma thing weird. I just want a PM to improve our lifestyle and make the country better off(environmentally too). I don't care if he tells great jokes or entertains me. I want a better standard of living...
I want a PM that I can't even really recall the name of, just a boring bloke that actually does their job.
And you won't get that frae him. He is a proven liar who has broken every promise he made tae become Labour leader.
@@darthlazurus4382 Your grammar proves you got a Tory education mate
Ungraded footage from the Starmer/Asthana interviews + cutting off the video before the segment is complete - what's going on, ITV?
The media decide who is 'controversial'. The fact that they're labelling Starmer as boring should be ringing alarm bells but instead it looks like many are about to fall for it. How Orwellian. Oh, and on the topic of the video, i don't see why he needs to book an appointment with the civil service to enact his plans, they've been working alongside labour for years.
Bring it on.
I think politics shouldn't be about entertainment because it's about making serious decisions for the population. Also, after the chaos over the last several years, I think a "boring" PM would be a welcome relief.
What did his daughter say? Itv KZhead editor dropped the ball.
I would like to know if Starmers extended family in Israel (via his wife) live in an illegal settlement, as this would be a possible influence on a futire UK governemnt that would be counter productive and unhelpful.
The two main parties are a joke and although I think that a labour government would be better for the working class the whole first past the post voting system needs throwing out and replacing with proportional representation
Labour governments are never good for the working class.
@@clivet3252there always better than Conservative ones Trickle down Thatcherism is an utter failure Energy bills through the roof Nurses coming from Nigeria Raw sewage in rivers Billions spent on housing support due to council house sell offs

Mate I’m from a working class area. Labour destroyed it for decades and to say Labour would make life better is ridiculous. You clearly don’t understand the reason so many working class places turned away from the them starting from Blair to 2019.
@@thomashowe1509 Blair brought the in the minimum wage wage rise average salaries by +25% during his tenure
He was the cps when the post office scandal was going on. Would you trust him 🤔 😏

Like I know the current UK government is a mess but you really don't want to start counting your eggs before they've hatched. Bill Shorten did that here in Australia and it didn't go well.
It's normal practice in the UK because the day after the election the government is sworn in and hits the ground running.
I know. It’s a little odd how people just assume it’s over. Michael Dukakis assumed it was over in 1988, and he got obliterated in the end. Ask Neil Kinnock about 1992, and his overconfidence. In politics all it takes is one thing to change the entire race.
@@thomashowe1509 it's normal practice And The Tories are toast there's no 1992 momentum there on for an extinction event
He makes my skin crawl.
I hate that, when I put something on to record, and the tape finishes before the end. (The end of this video seemed to stop quite abruptly).
No thank you stermer vote reform
You cut the video off in the middle of a sentence. GB News do it too. Is it a latest trend?
Hardly a PM in waiting
I am a muslim and was a labour supporter but you WILL NOT GET MY VOTE
Labour and the tories both serve the elites in the UK. Reform UK could transform this country for the people
I think most people have had enough of the current government but I don't think this guy attracts enough support for him to be able to form a majority government, meaning we're back to an impotent minority government or coalition. Sunak was right in that things need to be done differently if we are to achieve results, but what he did differently unfortunately didn't work and I doubt this guy will have the numbers in the commons to get anything done. Back to another bullsh*t five years again I suppose.
For me, he's not aggressive enough. I'm with Mick Lynch: it should be about taking from the very wealthy and redistribution to the poorest. So far, the lowest in society have suffered the most. I can see why Starmer is being careful, but Britain 🇬🇧 could do with a radical third option and reformed electoral system. As between the Tories and Labour over the last few years, the UK has got poor value for money and under the Tories criminal under investment in infrastructure, houses, and public services 😢
So if you work really hard to build up your wealth, someone else should benefit from it? Thats a taxation on aspiration.
I'd love politics to be boring again.
Boring but effective competant govt of the people for the people, and by the people
Guess ITV does'nt like left wing
You are kidding?
I dont like both the wings
He is going to have a shock, his support for Israel will lose him this election.
Well Boris Johnson was certainly not boring and look how that turned out…
Oh, I think he was.
Its that Things can only get better moment!
Tories have got to go ....stammer got my vote 👍👍
God help us if he gets in

You realise carboard boxes are incredibly useful?
I'm labour and I agree. But Sunak is hardly the most charismatic individual.
Just get this man in simple stop messing about and get the clowns out

Labour for now for me sounds like Torry Light. I am a socialist and unfortunately what I have seen of Starmer, I am not convinced by him. Tories should be out no question but Labour has (to me) a tory with a red tie
Reform UK want real change. £20k income tax allowance, waste cut out of public spending, we need reformation, the political elite are rinsing us of wealth
In the current climate socialist approaches to just simply taking money from the rich is not the answer we need the rich to invest. Mick Lynch might speak well but he hardly went to the school of global economics

This is a standard thing to ensure a smooth transition of power and has been in place for decades. The Tories had it ahead of the 2010 election. Miliband and Corbyn would have had the same deal. Unlike America where they vote for the president in November and he takes over in January, were Starmer to win a majority he'd become PM the day after the election.
