Former infantryman here....I almost died with the mortar attack story - "couldn't put the clip in the gun". My two deployments we were shuttled back and forth by these sky jockies in C-130s, funny crew. On the first, they had such a relaxed demeanor, yet here we (19 yr old kids) were getting ready for our first lead dodging...it was the funniest contradiction of stress levels I think I've ever seen.

Oh my god, I was a teenage loadmaster on C-130s (I enlisted at 17, my parents gladly signed the paperwork), that bit had me crying laughing. I can't even talk about some of the things we did. I will never regret my time in the Air Force, it was life changing.
I am a white hispanic similar to Sarduy. My family is from Spain and Portugal. I am always told that I am to white to be hispanic when hispanic is not a race but a culture. There are white hispanics as well as black hispanics and all the shades in-between.
Not just shades but features too. I once had an Asian lady talk to me in Chinese or something. I just have that look.
If your familial origins are Spain and Portugal alone, then how does that make you a Hispanic instead of a Spaniard/European?

A kid I grew up with, my brother's best friend, went to the USAF Academy and became a cargo pilot. Have your ever seen a C-5? They make a 747 look like a Piper. Anyone who can fly that thing has my respect. As for the Latino color spectrum: my Jamaican grandparents and their siblings emigrated to Cuba, Costa Rica, Panama, and the UK. And that's just my dad's side. I just tell people I'm Caribbean American because it's complicated beyond that. One cousin is on Costa Rica's World Cup team.

As a Latin, we come in all shades of white, black, asian, Arab, and the all in between. We are NOT a race nor ethnicity but rather a culture, and every country is vastly different culturally and linguistically. Y'all need to travel people, its the best Education.

It doesn't matter what kind of day you're having. It could be the worst day of your life, and it was for me once. I found Jose's first Dry Bar special and laughed every single minute. I felt so good afterwards that his first special, and now his second one, remain at the top of my watch list and will never leave. I watched these at least once a week just to top off my smiles. Thank you Jose. Okay, so I was just listening to this while driving to work, and I started cry laughing. Luckily, everyone is safe, but that was the most terrifyingly hilarious drive of my life.
Thank you for making me laugh. My son was also AF, but he was Security Forces/SWAT, and OSI. In your first routine you talked about how Security Forces was pumped for something to go down, you were so right!!! My kid was writing tickets at the gate more then others cruising Lackland. I relate to your mom and being worried. When my son was deployed and something was on the news, I was calling right away! My son would say, geez mom, I’m not even in that country! 😂
LOVE YOUR SHOWS. I was a stewardess for Delta years ago when agents rolled a 90 yr. Old lady onto an L1011 Atl to LA. As they lifted her up with 2 fingers, i asked if she would like to sit by the window, she grabbed her little hat and said,"Oh no honey. I couldn't stand all that wind!'" That was the best of my 10 yrs!
