I loved the fact all the family claimed to love the nurse, but no-one knew where she was from.
And how all of them said “I wanted you at the funeral, but I was outvoted”
Great character-building in the writing!
@@sanderflop It seems plausible the Katherine Langford character was actually telling the truth with that. She's really the only member of the family left at the end without the whole stain on her. That she genuinely regretted being pressured into making that call to Marta, and she was forgiven for it.
Mike Green that was the point 😂 they didnt really care about her, only the grandfather did. They just said it to make her feel better.

I had the exact same thought while watching the movie
Well it was a coincidence.
...Why did you, or anyone, like this movie? It broke the most basic tenet of fiction: show, don’t tell. Everyone was just talking about themselves the entire time. It was ridiculously overexplained. And that housekeeper’s stupid lie-puke disease is somehow both lazy AND not leaned on enough.

The sweater collection is a metaphor for "wolves in sheep clothing" I believe.
Brilliant!
Ahh, so cool! Would have never thought if it!
Wow! Cool!
Nah, the wardrobe department accidentally ordered too many sweaters
Nope, they're literally just sheeps. Also, Ransom isn't the murderer. Watch it again.
Actually Blanc was a great detective. We only think he's an idiot because he's so relaxed but that's because he has Martha figured out from the start, he knows she's hiding something but also that she didn't do it and is letting her lead him to the real killer. He also worked out Ransom was guilty without being privy to the same knowledge Martha or the audience had. Also why does he get the blame for Ransom's attack of Martha at the end? He's only a P.I, there were two state troopers in the room who could have also intervened.
Well... let's be glad those state troopers didn't intervene. We know how that would've ended up.
I gave this the 68th upvote... I lead others to a treasure I cannot possess.
@ModernNetMonk777 that's exactly what it is, definently a detective comedy
Columbo, basically, but with a southern accent and far sharper dresser
Good thing Ransom couldn't tell a stage prop from a real knife.
My favourite part of the movie was imagining that the Nurse who called saying “I’m terribly sorry, she didn’t make it.” Was met with Marta going “That’s great news! When can we talk with her?”
@Christy Sara "imagining" ... r/whoosh
That's what I was wondering😂
The hospital could have been in on the sting
That’s what I was thinking
Maybe they were thinking that she was so shocked by her death, that she was in denial about it.

I don' watch enough movies!!!! I only got the Bane(batman right?) one
Did you miss the part where Blanc knows Martha was at the crime scene from the very first second he meets her? The first thing he does is look at her shoe and we know there is a blood stain there. He even explains that later in the car. Or the part where he loudly exclaims that the REAL mystery he's trying to solve is who hired him and why.
Which is really dumb. Firstly, that spot of blood was the size of an ant and would be almost impossible to notice unless actively looking for it. Secondly, just because she has some blood on her show doesn't mean it is automatically from the old man. It could have just been from a small cut she had, a nosebleed, from someone in her family etc.... He could have asked her where the blood came from and even if she managed to hide her lie he could have the blood tested in a lab. Thirdly, and most importantly, if he thinks she is a suspect then why allow her to accompany him in the first place? She even tampers with evidence on multiple occasions (throwing away the broken piece of the window sill, erasing the tape, messing with the footprints)
@@elyesses6467 Maybe it's a stupid plot, but that was the plot. Honest Trailers are usually really good on that, but here they seemed to miss it.
@@CompleteNewbie they're good at the last question, why didn't he kill himself in front of anybody to witness it and clear out the maid ?
@@elyesses6467 1. It's a drop of brighter red blood on a white shoe, it stands out if someone is being observant, which Blanc is shown being several times over 2. The brightness of the blood would indicate it's freshness. If it was her own blood, there's a much higher likelihood she would have known it was there and cleaned it off. 3. He never thinks she is a suspect except for that time between Ransom "telling the whole story" and looking at the tox report. Even in that window, it'd be at worst manslaughter and unlikely that. He explains exactly why he brings her along - he feels he can trust her, and knows she knows more than has been stated. You can blame him for trusting too much, but that's about it
I love how they casually threw in "Fear of Bernie Sanders" as the 3rd most common rich people death.

Benjamin Abramowitz I laughed so hard at that part in the movie 😂😂😂
One of the funniest movie quotes.
That retractable knife scene was BRILLIANT. I thought she actually died
me too its one of my fav parts! i love how ransom managed to pick a fake knife instead of a real one, because when harlan was ranting to marta about ransom the night before he died he said "theres so much of me in that boy, playing life like a game without consequences until you cant tell the difference between a real knife and a prop"
Harlan didn't want to kill himself, and clear Marta of all suspicion. He wanted to leave his family with the best murder mystery of his life.
Dude would rather have his death be a great set up for a story than do the logical and responsible thing.
Wow I actually love this reasoning
I kept expecting him to suddenly still be alive and reveal it was all a swan song-type setup
I kinda feel like whoever wrote this missed the entire part where the Detective saw the blood on the shoes almost immediately and knew that she was there for the murder. That explains the majority of his complaints
tbh 1. she was on the opposite side of the room when he cut his throat, how did she get blood on her shoes? 2. she's a nurse who does injections all the time, she could've got the blood spot anytime
@@pepsimilkhotel They explain in the movie that the reason they think it's suicide is because the blood spray pattern didn't show any objects blocking it. That was the hint that she would of had blood on her if she was in the room and what the detective looked for. Blood doesn't spray out from an injection into a vein, it would dribble out. It's possible it got on her shoe that way but unlikely.
It doesn't explain why he allowed her to destroy physical evidence. Especially when there was no need in any complicated schemes, he could just question her more persistently, and she would have to tell him the truth.
@@user-fn8tq2wg2e Yeah well, it's rian jonhson, don't expect a crystal clear flawless scernario

@@mish375 Same, and I've been here since the beginning.
Harlan didn't kill himself in front of anyone else in the house probably because he figured he didn't have the time. If he started feeling and exhibiting symptoms of the overdose, foul play would've been suspected immediately.
and he wanted o give his family a lesson, not traumatize them for life
She didn't really give him the wrong drugs though, she thought she did but she didn't
DAC_clara99 MJ But Harlan didn’t know that Marta gave him the correct drugs. He thought he was going to start showing symptoms of overdosing any second.
@@axelcosgirl Nah, it's a real plot hole. He knows what morphine feels like. She's been hitting him up for a very long time. He might not know what overdose symptoms would feel like, but he should be completely aware that he wasn't feeling ANYTHING at all, no morphine high of any kind, after several minutes, despite having been shot up with what would be dozens of times more morphine than ever before.
@@limitedexperience492 exactly. There was quite a few plot holes. Just like this, in his mind he was ODing, so he creates a plan to cover for her mistake.. 3:58 In all seriousness I think it's because he was worried that his family would take advantage of the situation and collaborate to pin his death on Martha
No
There's one very big clue early on in the movie that Ransom is responsible for Harlan's death. He's the only adult member of the family who doesn't get interviewed by the police. He claims sarcastically that he's too grief-struck, but since all the interviews are interwoven with incriminating flashbacks, this is really where the movie-maker's hand shows as Johnson tries to delay the big reveal until the end.

This goes to show that Rian Johnson when directing the kinds of movies he specializes in is outstanding, but people for some stupid reason want to get him out of his comfort zone like with Star Wars. @@lanceturley7745 same lol. I love love TLJ and I think he can do something original with the new trilogy
