My favorite detail: everyone telling Marta they wanted her at the funeral but got out voted, meaning none of them really did
Yeah one of my favorites too. I soon as Walt said the same as Linda, I was piecing it together that they really dont like her
And their different descriptions of her nationality.
this isn't even any issue to vote about, OF COURSE she should have attended the funeral as she was obviously close to Christopher Plumer's character. but nope, this huge family simply treated her as a stranger, like a random pizza delivery boy. they didn't care about her and had zero empathy. no wonder the whole family was disinherited.
The one I noticed more was them all referring to her as being from a different country, at various points throughout the film. Again proving they had no interest in her
Yet at the same time, the way that none of them know anything about her background ALSO subtly suggests that she might be running some kind of con. She isn't, obviously, but characters with vague backgrounds in mystery movies usually shouldn't be trusted. So it's character development via red herring.
I have to say I love the detail of Marta telling Blanc “Nobody in that house is a murderer.” And that’s because Ransom isn’t in the house yet
but she couldn't have know that...
@@Muyuyu439 She doesn’t have to it’s coincidence in the universe but intentional in the filmmaking.
At this point she also thinks that she’s the killer still
I’m pretty sure she says “ If you wan’t my opinion on the family, none of them are killers.”
i think it’s cuz Marta feels like the murderer…
My favorite detail is that Blanc says "I am but a passive, quiet, observer of the truth" and plays a piano key when someone lies.
That is Genius, how did I not notice that?
thats so good omg
the piano key is more of a reminder for elliott to ask when they arrived at the party
Not a passive and quiet observer of lies.
@@inebri8ed I saw an idea that the piano key noise would stand out on the waveform of the interview recording, so they could easily go back and find the parts where the family recount where they were at the time of Harlan's death
I just realized that Richard referenced Hamilton by saying “Immigrants: we get the job done” even though a week prior he was making racist comments AGAINST Mexican immigrants at the party
Honestly that's pretty believable for a rich white man.
@@ab-wj8yg wdym "source", IT'S IN THE MOVIE 💀
I thought about that a little bit, and I came to the conclusion that he wants to make himself look good in front of the detectives (obviously) and he wants to prove to them that he's not racist and that he wouldn't have any sort of prejudice against Marta, and so he panics and just says the first positive thing that he can think of about immigrants- THEN follows up that by saying that he saw Hamilton at the Public (when it was off-broadway, a major flex) which is him showing that he only knows Hamilton because it gives him bragging rights as a member of high society to say that he's seen it- NOT because he actually appreciates any sort of the message about immigrants rising up, which of course leads back to the previous line. SO MUCH characterization with just TWO LINES.
but I feel like he said that to emphasize the fact that she is an "immigrant" or "foreigner", to further say that she is not part of the family
He also called Jacob (the alt right troll) a creep and badmouthed him in front of the detectives. Dude was a two face.
“Has anyone every dropped something because of a surprise in real life” *ahem* “Stop! I could have dropped my croissant!”
Bruh 😂

That's my third monocle this week. I simply must stop being so horrified.

Another fun little detail is how Blanc perfectly pronounces Marta's Spanish surname, setting him aside from the family that can't even remember where she's from.
my doctor says my last name wrong, should i be offended? i also don't know their ethnicity.
@@Fleato The idea here is that a caretaker for the patriarch of a million-dollar family is completely not worth knowing by the family's ideas. She's considered a close companion of Harlan's yet the family treats her as though she's the help. When they're discussing Trump and immigration, she's waved over and then not invited into the discussion. Richard Drysdale even hands her his empty plate while they're talking without even looking at her. So this family who should know Marta very well can't even remember where she's from, let alone pronounce her last name. Beniot Blanc immediately pronouncing it correctly would imply that he a) cares enough to try and b) possibly knows where she's from.
I love that her name is Marta which is the Atlanta transportation system and a big plot point is that her mother is an immigrant that moved to the U.S.
Fleato well depends how well you know your doctor I guess
@@tatumgallahair7729 Marta is a common name bud
Extra shout out to Marta's mom referring to Marta's boss as Marta's "dear friend who she loved". What a great way to let you know more about Marta and Thrombe right off the bat and then immediately juxtaposed by that phone call.
when my grandma, who is a nurse, saw the scene with harlan being administered the ‘wrong’ drug she knew something was up because harlan showed no symptoms
thank you that is one of my only problems with the movie is that neither Harlan who was familiar with the drug nor Marta an actual nurse even noticed
I figured he didn't want to suffer and slit his throat before the symptoms started showing?
Anna Mauro he would’ve showed symptoms before he slit his throat, almost immediately after being administered the drug
@@olipender483 yeah, Altho Marta was freaking out and Harlen was very assured he knew what he was doing.
That's the twist? Marta never poisoned him, ransom switched the labels in hope that Marta would kill him, but she was such a good nurse that she new which was which by the weight/volume (I cant remember) she only started freaking out after she noticed the labels.
My favorite detail: saying Ransom “wouldn’t know a prop knife from a real one”. Absolutely perfect setup!
Very much a Chekov’s gun, or is that a Johnson’s knife?
Yeah I heard that and was like too specific. That's coming back.
it really is perfect, and i could guess it at the end even tho the rest of my family couldn't, which is WILD
@@smargio Yeah same. And then when the moment happened I was like "wait...This is too overdramatic...WAIT I remember that line!" and started cracking up. Meanwhile, mom was staring with her hands in "oh my god!!!!" position over her nose in horror right up until the reveal at which point SHE cracked up and was like "Did you know?!" XD
Actually, it was a bit artificial gimmick. Weird way of describing someone's state of mind, but later it turned out why he used such a bizarre metaphor. Mostly brilliant movie though. There's couple other flaws though A) kitchen magnet really isn't enough to erase VHS tapes B) the whole deal with the medical bottles was unrealistic. You wouldn't be able to tell by feel C) Fran's plan to meet the suspect in that place was suicidal
*Oh the director responded.* That, everyone, is how you politely flex.
Your reaction was hysterical
Wait what?
What??
I was thinking "ok he's being too cool about this"
WHAT???
This movie was so entertaining, and yet...the big reveal was heartbreaking. Harlan is an amazing character. He only thought how to protect someone he adored.
E x a c t l y; even when facing certain death, he found another way out in the best way he could come up with to save the one true person he cared about. That sacrifice genuinely made my jaw drop and really nailed home his character :')
I absolutely bawled at that part oh my god He was such a selfless man
I think he wanted to go out with a flourish
Throughout the whole movie I kept saying he loved her like a daughter and I will die on that hill
He’s also a moron, though. When he finds out about the morphine, he literally kills himself in order to stop Marta from doing the job he pays her to do, in so doing causing most of Marta’s troubles throughout the film, rather than just waiting for the ambulance.
The "Eat Shit" scene is one of my favorites of all time somehow
"I'm not eating one IOTA of shit!" absolute gold
Expecially when Captain "Language !" was saying it
this detail is actually very interesting, since the initial line was supposed to be “fuck you”. Rian Johnson mentioned in an interview that if so many f-bombs were thrown (there were lots throughout the whole movie), it would have to be rated R… thus Chris thought that “eat shit” had a ring to it: they went with it, it worked, and that, combined with the removal of all f-word lines, successfully got the movie to be rated PG-13!
@@littlechickeyhudak "You want some more cookies Hugh?! Maybe Harlan left you a cold glass of milk in his will, ASSHOLE!" I swear Michael Shannon gets so many of the best lines

Here's one great detail in the movie: the Thrombeys mix up Marta's nationality. One says her family is from Uruguay, and another says that she's Brazilian, and the like. Add that to the list of ways that the Thrombeys don't care.
CrashJakFan1994 Thats true, i saw it today for the first time and i actually think they say Paraguayan but maybe i miss heard it being Uruguayan but maybe.
@@brandonrojas9214 Everytime a Thrombey says where she's from, they change it. It starts out with something like Paraguay, then Ecuador, then Mexican, then Peruvian, Guatemalan, etc. It's never the same
@@brandonrojas9214 Maybe they said both, which would contribute to the fact that they don't care.
This is the order it goes in: Linda says she is Salvadoran Then, I think Richard, says she is Paraguayan Then someone else, I don’t remember, says she is Uruguayan Then Ransom, 😍, says she is Brazilian Sorry I love this movie so much. I already watched it twice
Definitely an Ecuador
Best detail: *Richard is completely responsible for his wife finding out he was cheating on her* 1. He goes into Harlan’s office and breaks into his desk leaving the “blank” letter just sitting around. 2. Scoffing at what he thinks was a bluff, he throws Harlan’s prized baseball out the window. 3. Detective Blanc finds the ball later and gives it to the dogs. 4. At the end of the film, Jamie Lee Curtis sees the dogs chewing on the baseball and goes to put it back, thus finding the letter. Had Richard not broken into Harlan’s desk, the letter would have stayed undiscovered, and probably thrown out since Marta keeps the house at the end. Now that’s some amazing detail ladies and gentlemen 👌
Wow, that's a amazing detail! Nice catch

Just gonna leave this comment here about ramsom's reaction: Chris Evans is a hell of an actor. The moment he started laughing the first thing I thought was "he knew" but then he started laughing more and I thought "wait, is he genuinely enjoying this? Did he not know?" and I'm positive this is completely intentional. I can't even imagine how I would do if a director told me to do that. Like, what's a "you knew but you realize halfway through that you can't make it obvious because other people can't know you know so you have to look surprised" laugh?
eh i'd imagine the direction would more be telling them something the rest of the cast doesn't know. " you know that everyone else is cut out of the will, but don't tell them because ransom would want to witness their reaction at the reading" that's why his reaction when they asked him " you were cut out of the will" and he jsut says " yup " all smug like, because he knows he is cut out of the will and just bascing in their smugness thinking they are the untouchables. the only reason he showed up was to watch the rest of them burn just like him as they are no better than he is.
I also like that Rian casted Chris as the bad guy because we assume he’s a good guy because he’s Captain America
I think Chris Evans was also laughing because in real life, Michael Shannon is very comical and having his character be the way he was to Chris Evans character was causing Chris Evans to not be able to keep a straight face.
@@Superbl0bby indeed, which is a good strategy for Chris in avoiding the typecast role of 'good guy' - he definitely should take on other kinds of roles, no doubt he's shaping up to be a versatile actor.

Henry Chiang he was excellent in this
Chris Evans should play Reverse Flash
I feel like Chris Evans who has played the same character for 9 years seemed to have fun with this role
There's so much to take in, it's hard to mention everything. A detailed that really got to me at the time was how, while Richard is using her as a prop for his argument, he just holds out his empty dessert plate for her to take, without asking, exactly as he would with a maid servant. My jaw dropped when I saw that in the theater.
I saw that too!

Oh my gosh!! That's such a great allusion I didn't even catch that!

Ho. Ly. Shit. This movie keeps throwing curveballs! JR, you genius, you!
The Reason why Harlan was so keen on getting Martha out of the situation to the point he didn't even care about the symptoms is because he was afraid the slayer rule will nullified Martha's in heritage and his will
good point! Did he know about that legal clause though? I wouldn't have but he seems to have been well read. On the other hand, saving the mom simply because he cares is enough of a reason.
@@tristanmoller9498 I think he would know from his writing research. That's the type of stuff people include in their murder mysteries.
while this is true, and harlan is for sure the most moral of all the family, i believe that despite having thought about this in truth he didn't think far enough. he wanted dramatics, no matter the fact that it would put marta and her family in treachery. he made a big deal out of marta, leaving the will to her, failing to realise that the entire family would turn against her, and find out about her undocumented mother. this was harlan's great flaw; his lack of foresight, despite his attempts. great film if there's so much to be said about everyone
He knew someone had switched the medication when Marta told him she had mixed it up and the ‘antidote’ was missing. He mentions that he doesn’t feel anything, meaning that he knew she didn’t screw up his dosage. He also now knew that Ransom was trying to kill him and make it look like Marta did it to nullify his will to her. That’s why he killed himself. He knew the toxicology report would show that she hadn’t screwed up his medication, thus making his death a suicide. Harland knew if he didn’t take himself out right away while Ransom was sure the toxicology report would show Marta’s guilt, he would try again to kill him or Marta. Harland just chose to beat him to the punch.
Another small detail that I love is when the detectives and Blanc are reviewing everyone’s stories of the night, Joni either forgets or (what is more likely) purposefully hides/lies about something. According to the detectives, when Joni checks up on Harlan and Marta, she ends the conversation with “love you” but in reality, she ends the conversation with asking/talking about the “family situation” and the double dipping in allowance. Just another detail to how Joni was really secretive about her need for money. It’s small but it shows how when we remember, we tend to remember what we want to. It’s easy to slip something false into a lot of truth
Two things that you missed (unless you cover it in the end wrap in part 2) 1: the framing of each character in their interview changes and makes the background knife circle's center get closer or further away depending on that characters relationship with Harlan. Additionally, Marta is positioned the same way but framed from the other side, pushing her away from the knives, showing that she's different from the family and is uninvolved with the murder. 2: If you have the Blu-ray, take off the like outer sleeve it's in that has the knife circle overlay and put it on backwards, such that the side of the sleeve that would go with the front side of the case is actually over the back side of the case. The back side of the case has all the characters lined up together, and when you overlay the sleeve, it centers the knives directly on Ransom, showing that he's behind it all.
That is cool af!!

One detail you forgot but i really like is that when Harlan is talking about Ransom before Marta knows she messed up, he says that Ransom could’t tell the difference between a real knife and a prop one, and that is exactly what happens when Ransom tries to kill Marta at the end
That's probably a win down the line? o.O

Everything great about "Knives Out" is that everything about "Knives Out" is great. Super-solid film.
Except for the medicine error. Anyone with any medical training knows how ridiculously flawed the ketorolac/morphine information was.
Someone else also pointed out how the coin flip is when the whole genre of the movie changes, which is a super cool detail.
You should have also winned the fact that when Marta sees Harlan slit his own throat, her face turns red. It's a sign of great acting on Ana de Armas' part.
true ( though make up and affects can be used for that) if she managed it on her own that's insane to have that level of bodily control

2:24 Ya gotta love how close Marta clearly is with her _real_ family, because they go out of their way to care for her emotional well-being, something the Thrombies (other than Harley) never did without personal motivation
I actually think the dropping the tray worked in this movie. She didn’t let go and let it fall to the floor. She got distracted and lost her grip on it so it slipped from her fingers. Then she caught. I have done that so many time.
That and the fact you can see her attention immediately got to the mug because if was full of hot coffee and spilled on her, which is why she continues to struggle with the tray. It's far more realistic than outright dropping it.
If CinemaWins didn't already exist, "Knives Out" would necessitate it coming into existence. It's a great movie loaded with so many details we need channel like this to point them all out so we can properly appreciate all the masterful filmmaking.
It’s such a shame the cinemasins equivalent has a million views :(
How is it a great movie when all the characters in it are plain stupid?
@@vilas3421 I politely disagree. There are some moments that make the characters look stupid at first viewing but if you rewatch it again and again, all of our their actions fall into places in such a great way. The family was just too blind by the will that they didn't care much about Harlan's murder and attacked Martha for getting everything from them while Ransom was too arrogant and confident enough to pin the crime on Martha to get the will but because of that, he wasn't able to differentiate a prop knife to a real one and got reckless. On the other hand, Martha was just trying to remove herself from suspicion and ended up finding more and more clues about Ransom being the culprit. And detective Blanc is slowly piecing every mess that comes into play together like a true detective.
@@ghadlydevastated2067 Can you explain what Blanc was doing in the whole movie? He was not doing a thing until he saw that toxicology report with which any person can suspect it is not Marta, you don’t need a super smart detective. He believes whatever Marta says is true because everyone thinks she cannot lie without vomiting. And a nurse who is giving medicine without checking the labels when it can be lethal. And the maid who is blackmailing a killer in a lonely closed place. And an ‘intelligent’ mystery novelist who cannot differentiate the effects of medicine and poison. I have no problem with behaviour of family members since they contribute nothing to the plot as they are not interested in solving the murder. And Blanc suspecting Ransom just because he knows Marta’s story is BS.

Rian's gonna rue the day he made Luke drink Thala Siren tit-milk." Then Knives Out was a critical AND commercial success and that part of the fandom tried to sweep its success under the rug because they have no integrity.
My favorite detail is when the whole family was talking about immigration and what Trump is doing, Richard called Marta over and asked her to say sth even though she seemed to be really uncomfortable, then handed her his plate that he just finished while he kept talking. Marta took the plate tho but really, Richard only sees her as a servant.
Chris Evan's expressions made the movie! He was so awesome in this. Made me forget him as Captain America. And I love him as the Captain.
One of my favorite running "gags" throughout the movie is that no one in the family remembers where Marta and her family are from, so they keep changing where she's from. The ones that I remember are Uruguay, Brazil, and Ecuador. It really shows that they do not care about Marta to remember things about her personal life.
Also no one mentions Cuba, which is the country Ana de Armas comes from
I really thought Brazil , Ecuador and Uruguay are the same place .
This film was so great, I loved how the plot twist is so clear on multiple viewing. I loved how the initial revel of who was the killer made the audience think there was no question of who killed Harlan, but the movie pulls the rug out from under the audience with the true plot twist. One of, if not the best plot twist in the modern era of movies. I loved this film every single time I watched it.
Something else that was really clever was Ransom not appearing until the first act. It takes attention away from him, while the other characters are being focused on. By the time he appears, the viewer probably already has a theory on who killed Thrombey, that involves another family member
And why couldn't Rian Johnson show the same level of competence with TLJ?
@@akumaking1 Suffice it to say, competence wasn't the issue. Overconfidence was. Johnson wanted to take a risk. He wanted to flip the script and approach TLJ completely differently than anyone expected him to. It was an admirable effort that ultimately didn't pan out.

She just kinda goes slack and all of her focus goes from that to the gruesomely dead person she knew. Seems very realistic, and her "shit" was even more so.
I think dropping things isn't just from shock/surprise, but also because people want to check if the person is really dead or if they gotta call an ambulance.. you need free hands to check the pulse and be quick about it etc.
@@silversamm The point is that she doesn't actually drop it. The tray just leans forward and sort of tips over, because she loses focus. The little detail of her shock making her forget she is holding a tray, only for the mug to spill what we can assume is hot coffee which then probably burns her and shocks her out of her shock. Only then does she regrip the tray and recover herself. Great little detail that adds some realism.

@Geralt of Trivia Condemning Rian just for doing The Last Jedi is almost on the same level of stupidity as cursing David Fincher for doing Alien 3.
@Geralt of Trivia I'm giving Fincher a pass on Alien 3. Given how much of a clusterfuck the film's production was, the fact he was able to get it released at all is Goddamn commendable.
@Geralt of Trivia One thing I can wholeheartedly say about the Disney Star Wars movies is that the acting has greatly improved across the board. Sure, there was some good performances in prior movies, but it hasn't been a consistent factor. And honestly, when my biggest gripe about TLJ is that it introduced swearing such as "bastard" and "ass" to the Star Wars movies, then I don't really have any problems.
I like that Blanc is not an asshole detective because even if he knows Marta is telling the truth, Blanc still dug deeper to not blame her for it because he genuinely empathizes with Marta and I find that quite nice. :)
At 11:21 he also hands his plate to Marta without even looking at her even though - She’s not the wait staff - He called her over their to join the conversation
6:25 I think that it's worth noting how they actually put invisible ink on that blank letter and if you look closely enough, you can see the outlines of the stains
I love how it was hinted at too. Because early in the film she says she had to learn to play Harlan's games in order to feel close to him, so as soon as I saw it was blank I told my husband I bet it was a secret message since it was intended only for her.
yea when Richard picks up the letter, you can see the faint outline of the letters from the glow through the window. I just noticed that and smirked
I love the fact that during the interviews Marla was the only one where when viewed strait on, the knives would all be pointing to her. All the others were off to one side but she is lined up perfectly.
Queen of Lawstuff‘s reaction at 14:05 is priceless!!
I love how the family kept naming different South American countries of Marta's origin (Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil), further proving that they don't really care about her.
I love movies like this, when the actors are allowed to cut loose and have fun. You can tell that everyone is having a great time :)
It was too bad that Harlan didn't noticed that he wasn't experiencing the symptoms Marta said he would have in the time they took to plan the suicide.
As a gay southerner, I really feel for the way Marta is treated. Especially down here, a lot of conservatives put on the "we're a big happy family and we love diversity" mask. But really they find "friendly" ways to keep you out and make sure a line is drawn between you and them as an "other."
I always suspected it was ransom that killed him, and that thw medicine was switched, but I did NOT expect that Marta knew which was which, and that Harlan actually killed himself. This movie pulled the rug from my feet so many times, and I love it.
It's why the cops kept saying it was clearly a suicide, an open and shut case. The cops weren't idiots they were actually right.
“Has anyone actually dropped something because they surprised?” Ive dropped my phone about a dozen times because I looked up and saw a spider on the wall.
That's a lot of spiders
Its the opposite for me. I increase my grip out of habit. Id probably break something fragile enough if I was surprised
My cat likes to sit in front of the door when I have to use the bathroom late at night. I use my phone as a light to get there because the ceiling lights are too bright at 2 am. She meows really loudly when I open the door and exit the bathroom (and yes, she does this on purpose to scare me). The amount of times I’ve had to try and catch my phone that had gone flying...
To be fair, I'd probably do the same if I sudden see a Tom clinging to the ceiling.
I've yeeted my phone and tried to spare tackle nothing because I was coming out of sleep in the middle of the night and thought someone was standing over me
I had to stop for a moment and think to myself "was that a hamilton reference?" AND IT *WAS* My little theatre kid heart is so happy
I saw it in the theater and laughed embarrassingly loudly at that part
Kim Synonym OMG me too!
4:15 if anyone is wondering, it’s the shirt. The design is... well
I remember reading "Who Killed Harlowe Thrombey?" when I was a kid! But it was such an esoteric little book I figured no one else had read it. I was wondering if that's where the name came from. That made me so happy to hear I wasn't the only one who noticed. Awesome video, awesome series, made my day!
That opening shot kinda reminded me of the old Scooby-Doo openings
Honestly, when I saw the trailer, I expected this film to be like Murder on the Orient Express, which I 100% dislike. I just couldn't get on board that train with the idea of EVERYONE conspired to kill one person. I'm glad that I was SO wrong. A whodunit turning into a thriller with a curious detective instead of an attention deficient one as well as a whole family with EVERYTHING to lose still goes about this diplomatically instead of plotting to kill Marta after she receives their inheritance and assets from Harlan. And even when I thought the thriller was going to end quickly with Marta going down for murder (which honestly, it would have been involuntary manslaughter even if she really did switch the vials accidentally), the film shifts into high gear and Chris Evans really shines in this film as a Stark contrast to Captain America (the character he has been playing for over a decade). The cinematography was great, acting was top-notch (what else would you expect from Evans, Shannon, Curtis, Craig and the rest?! They were all fantastic in their respective roles), storytelling was fast-paced yet focused (Not a detail was ultimately wasted, like Harlan's mother's part in this story), and the THRILL was ever-present throughout the film with each detail unearthed just adding to the mystique and nothing truly linking up until the very end and the donut finally being made whole was satisfying. Amazing film. Definitely worthy of an award or a dozen.
I love how the movie played with us, when Harlan got "poisioned" we were told he would be showing symptoms yet he was still fine. At that point we thought it was just inconsistency, its revealed that he wasn't actually poisoned therefore effect on Harlan. Great shit Knives Out
Ana did a phenomenal job in this role. I'd imagine it would be intimating being the center of a film with so many names in the industry but her performance was the best imo. I still cant watch the death scene without crying because she looks so completely heartbroken and scared it will never not get to me
1:33 also, not everything slides off the tray and appears to be tied to it - so props to the prop master for having a tray with stuff that looks like it will fall on the floor but actually doesn't...?
13:58 Also, this tells me that Rian Johnson is legitimately a good guy. An actor (much less one with only a couple film credits) doesn't say something like that about/to a popular director unless they *know* he wouldn't be offended. Hollywood careers have been derailed for way less.
These TLJ haters would just need like two days of Rian's tweets to calm down forever. Saw a ton of interviews, making-of and tweets, it's so obvious he's a great person. He's so funy, wholesome and supportive, and his Twitter is great too, shitposting and a ton of details, interactions with random people (fans and people who diss him) and movie recommandations
@@andiran23 What are some of your favorites?
I really love the appreciation given to LaKeith Stanfield. He is just an amazing actor. I love everything he does and he 100% deserves the “always a win” status
I think the main takeaway I got from this was that Harlan really wanted to be apart of a true murder mystery. He wanted to be part of a 'whodunit' in his own way. That may have been why he was so accepting of his death, and oddly enough from one writer to another? Dang what a way to go
As a paralegal, I can indeed confirm that we have to point out everything for the attorneys.
Soooo... does that make you another Queen of Lawstuff? 😁
Ana De Amas and Daniel Craig are stars, they were wonderful in this
*Armas, plz don't be like the Thrombeys', she's extremely talented lol
Lee: *freaks out over Rian Johnson responding to his tweet* Appropriate reaction. *Ding*
RIP Christopher Plummer
*CinemaSins:* Imma do a video on this movie *Everyone:* DEFINITELY eat shit
The same thing I said when I unsubscribed from that channel.
Hehehe
That was easily the funniest scene in the movie
I will not eat one iota of shit!
They loved this movie too though.
the closest we have to a modern cozy mystery movie despite the enormous popularity of the genre right now. Give us a Won-Ton Murder movie!
Enormous popularity? What other major mysteries film have even come out lately? This is a legitimate question I would like to see more.
@@nikkospelledlikethat8140 I wouldn't call Coconut Layer Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke major, or even a clever title as far as cozy murder mysteries go, but it did warrant a promotion at Barnes and Noble where we stocked coconut layer cakes at the café. Cozy Murder Mysteries are also their own section at B&N.
Nikko Spelled Like That I mean, there was that Murder on the Orient Express movie. It was pretty good, with some excellent cinematography and humor.
@@dewayner5388 but it's not exactly a "cozy mystery", because it's an adaptation of an older work which in it's time was not the tongue-in-cheek, campy, low stakes which define the modern cozy mystery.
@@nikkospelledlikethat8140 to be clear, 8 months later, it's popular book genre, not a movie genre. My OP was bemoaning that it's not catching on in movies. I do reccomend the recent Ms. Fisher Mysteries tv series. A middle-aged woman in 1930's Australia who owns her sexuality while butting her way into solving mysteries.
keith standfield "doesn't miss" there's a death note adaptation that would like a word with you
Still such a great movie, truly was an instant classic. Rest In Peace Christopher Plummer but thank you for giving us this one final masterpiece.
About the dropping things in surprise: I threw a brownie tonight because something settled in the kitchen sink and scared me
YOU MONSTER! How dare you throw an innocent brownie.
Did you at least have another brownie to eat?
Nikko yes I had a full tray left but I was SCARED
Talk about overreacting
@@ActualDisasterArt Startled, I understand. Jumping at the suddenness I get. Being scared and throwing something? Too much.
I'd love to see one about The Prince of Egypt if possible. I was just watching it and I wanted to see your take on it. Thanks!
Bia M YES PLEASE
Actually, when playing a certain video game (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors for anyone interested) there was a plot twist that literally made me drop my DS on my face :P
simonO712 Ah yes. That plot twist got me good. Especially with how well it’s implemented into how the game functions with the DS. The bottom screen and top screen having different views that clue you in on the big reveal. Amazing series.
"It's too late for Andre to get out" Damn this hit me right in the feels
I wanna point out that when Blanc is questioning Marta, he says “You are in the centre of this.” To her. Throughout the beginning he is questioning the family from a corner, while Marta is in the centre of the circle of knives. Showing she is in fact in the centre of the whole situation. Just something I saw that is pretty cool :)
Fantastic Madness yes! She is the hostage and the hostage is not freed until they get Ransom! Only plausible reason why a character would ever be named Ransom.
"There's something in this scene that would get me demonetized if I pointed it out." Me: "huh, wait... what?? Oh.... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh...."

Nate The_Great her shirt has a fufu on it
@@NateThe_Great24 theres an anatomical vagina on her shirt. Cuz feminist I guess. My source being my older sister went to the same all girls college she mentions in the movie. 50k a semester is actually just about right so points for accuracy to the movie.
Thx y'all
Shut up meg
fun fact: in any movie with modern phones apple refuses to let the villain use their products and as such you just need to look at the characters phone brand and you can see if their the villain or not (such as in this movie)
The mom actually doesn’t ‘be sensitive’ around Marta. She literally points out exactly how Harlen died, and Marta’s affiliations with it, *directly in front of Marta when she’s telling her sister to turn it off because the murder angle.* The mom accidentally made the situation worse on Marta’s conscious while trying to be sensitive
If I may... Sensitivity is a relative term to Latinos, especially ones not born in the US like Marta's mother. What seems like harsh behavior is really just her being bluntly honest. As a Latino American I can confirm that she's doing her best to help her daughter despite how it comes off. (Apologies if you've heard this line before.) But it also serves three distinct purposes: 1) It opens the recurring juxtaposition of Marta's family (her mother and sister) versus her "family" (Harlan's relatives), where one side speaks their mind and often lacks subtlety, while the other side feigns courtesy everytime they breathe. 2) It shows that, before we've even met the Thrombeys, Marta is no stranger to people who try to do one thing and come off as doing something else. She doesn't argue with her mother despite her waving Harlan's death in front of her like that. It sets up her kind and selfless nature before throwing her to wolves when she goes to the reading of the will. And 3) It shows what Marta and her family are REALLY like before we have to put up with the Thrombeys repeatedly failing to know her, despite how much they brag about their "relationship" with her.
Ok CinemaWins how to you know so much about everything? I’ve been watching your other videos recently and it just amazing how many interesting little key details about different movies. In the medicine scene where you bring up how they do an accurate injection that people could think your a doctor or have a good amount of medical experience In the John Wick videos you seem to know more about guns better than the guy that gives John his guns in chapter 2 (I forget his name) And in the Spider verse video you act like an art pro explaining the different types of dots used in each scene. It just amazes me how you can point out the most random but interesting facts in movies Any also wanted to say your channel is always fun to watch and to keep up the good work
So, I do a lot of research for each video. But ironically those 3 things you mentioned are my "Slumdog Millionaire" things. (In case you haven't seen it, they're answers to questions he knows because of things from his past.) My wife is a Physician Assistant so she always gets angry when doctors stick a needle in someone's arm in a movie. My 2 older brothers are gun enthusiasts, it's a culture I grew up in (to be fair I did a lot of research to confirm stuff) And I owned a silk screen print shop for years, so I just happen to know about the art styles. I also really love learning about new stuff as well. Too a fault. I usually spend a full day or longer researching things but I only every use maybe 30% of it in videos. I just never know what might be interesting.
After Knives Out, Can you do Everything Great About The Iron Giant and/or The Prince of Egypt?
I'd love to see everything great about the Prince of Egypt
PRINCE OF EGYPT
I love the nod to Marta winning through the games she would play with Harlan. She never tries to really win. Every other family member tried to win the inheritance and wouldn’t stop trying to get it. Marla never once asked about it or made a move for it, she just tried to help as much as possible without giving away her possible guilt. She never tried to win, she just played her own way.
I love how both this guy and Cinemasins are able to point out flaws in Harlan’s death.
"Has anyone ever dropped something because of a surprise IRL?" My daughter, yesterday, when I told her about an exoplanet that's so hot that it rains iron. Her jaw dropped, and she involuntarily let go of the broom handle she was holding.
I guess you could be say this planet is pretty metal
@@andiran23 Thanks for that, I actually laughed out loud-
I remember watching this for the first time at Brighton film festival. Everyone in the audience went NUTS with every twist and turn. It's great!
it's weird, because this is one of the few movies that i'd say are even better to watch with an audience!
I didn't even realize that Linda foreshadowed her secret code with Harlan that is shown at the end of the film. I love how much thought they put in every single piece of dialog.
I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was watching this movie
