How Offshore Oilrigs Work, Float, and Extract Oil

2022 ж. 19 Шіл.
2 046 969 Рет қаралды

Offshore drilling is the process of extracting petroleum from reserves located beneath the Earth's oceans instead of reserves located on the mainland. Offshore oil rigs have developed greatly over the past years, and have become gigantic structures that house hundreds of people at a time.

    • Oh, deep water drilling is done in way too deep waters for that. Some deep water drilling is so deep that the rigs aren't even anchored to the bottom. They use dynamic positioning (thrusters on the hull) to maintain their position over the wellhead.

    • I am Cuban, 57 years old, I live in USA since 1986, spent 23 years in the shipbuilding and oil industry, 7 them working in several oil facilities owned by BP at the north sea, I was member a maintenance crew of 17 guys, welders, fitters, pipe fitters, crane operator, electricians and helpers, I was a lead welder, many times we spent up to 60 days working on those oil platforms, north sea is a hell of cold environment, then back on dry land mostly here in North Dakota I was involved in the work of lying down oil pipelines and also here was where I had the ugliest drama bullshit with bitches in my entire life, the fucking rig pig queens.

We bring personnel and materials/equipment out to the rigs, and there are thousands of us boat across the world. If not for us the rigs wouldn’t be able to operate. We bring everything from people to fresh water, food to cement. It’s an entirely different side of the job.
