  • Nate if there’s something I appreciate more than anything else in your videos, it’s the clear narration and no backing music. It’s just refreshing seeing a professional clearly explain the in’s and out’s of a procedure that helps a cow feel better!

  • I occasionally have seen other trimmers who have more "extreme" cases, and while I love to see a really severe hoof issue (because I'm a weirdo), I CANNOT get over how fast and careless their knife work can seem. I really appreciate your videos because your knife work is methodical, precise, and gentle. I also love that you don't feel the need to jazz anything up: I appreciate the work, some narration and explanation, and the content speaks for itself. Thanks for sharing what you do with us. It's a bit strange for laypeople outside of the dairy industry to take an interest, I suppose, but it's really interesting and enlightening!

  • On the Dremel tool idea, there is also the problem of the heat generated by the abrasion/friction. That can cause additional injury. The podiatry version certainly can easily cause burns in people, (just ask me!) and the deluxe watercooled model does not exactly lend itself to a mobile cattle hoof treatment operation. 🇨🇦💕

  • 4:38 like so many other channels, your well thought-out methods applied to so many other fields. You might laugh, but I’m in audio production, and today I had a situation exactly like that hoof block question. No, I’m not going to do retracking, let alone a final mixdown, because all of the comments from the stakeholders have not come in yet. However, I do use salicylic acid on every mix to prevent … DIGITAL dermatitis!

  • I can definitely see some uses for a Dremel tool. But it's a question of using it under the right circumstances and using the right technique. My foot doctor uses something like a Dremel tool to grind off calluses. It works well, and I barely feel anything. Sometimes it tickles, but that's about it. In terms of vibration, I'm thinking it's somewhere between the knife and the grinder. And it's ability to remove material will likewise be between the two.

  • A Dremel tool will also add heat to the surface you’re working on. Podiatrists who use them also use water to keep the foot cool. I have been around cattle for a long time and the air gets caustic in barns. You will destroy your Dremel quickly, even if you use the flexible wand. A Dick knife is the correct choice.
