Driving a 600bhp tuned Toyota GR Yaris (and how it was modified). And it's still 1.6 litre! This is thought to be Europe's most powerful Toyota GR Yaris, with over 500 wheel horse power and over 600 at the flywheel. It was built by established Supra mk4 2JZ speed shop Garage WhifBitz in Monmouthshire, who were a known tuner back in the Max Power days.
Jonny Smith finds out all the mods that make this GR Yaris double its factory power without exploding, then drives the sequential gearboxed fiesty 4WD on the road (in rain).
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show. For merchandise head here: thelatebrakeshow.com/shop
The Yaris' crank/flywheel horsepower of over 600bhp (when 506 wheel horsepower was proven on the dyno) was calculated using this link: www.mk5cortinaestate.co.uk/ca...

That you can make 500-600 hp reliably with very strong power curves. I don’t think these other cars had 7 speed sequentials lol but really is it a competition or is it people modifying cars because they’re just that passionate about cars and the sensation of driving enthusiastically.

  • Always good fun to see what people are doing with the GR's. If my other half didn't love it ours so much it would have seen the inside of some turners in already :) I've got a rather rapid "7" (north of 500hp/tonne) and honestly the GR point to point is reeeeeediciculously quick out of the box, quicker than the big power RWD machine. The grip levels are fantastic. Nothing I've had or been in comes close on twisty roads. Throwing a lot of power at it addresses the only "problem" of the stock circuit pack car - it's almost got too much grip, so getting it out for some mad lairy 4 wheel action is hard work (say compared to the big power Audi RS's, just turn off aids, throw it into the corner, power oversteer out). This one ^^^^ would be awesome fun in the dry. Well done lads! Saving this video for later !

But this one is just too hardcore for use on the road, I guess mostly the tyres ruined it in this weather but it’s loud, the suspension has been made stiffer, sequential gearboxes only enjoy being driven flat out. If I had one I’d keep it original to how they are out of the box which is one of the most capable point to point B road cars you can buy, but just enhance that with exhaust, intake, seats, wider tyres and a modest tune

  • Thats just awesome! I still love the fact that Toyota decided to get GR to build a proper homologation special for the WRC car when everyone else just bases it on a fwd hot hatch. Future classics for sure those things...

  • I sold my Porsche 944 Turbo and got a GRY. Reasoning was to get a car I can drive all year and reliabilty without sacrificing any of the fun. I have not regretted it for a second. This car just brings so much joy! Norwegian 10 year Toyota warranty is obviously just a massive added bonus.

  • That is an extraordinary amount of money to drop, but what a result. Huge numbers, yet still perfectly driveable. The other end of the scale is - my mother in law has a Yaris (not a GR, obvs); should I show her this video? Thanks Jonny and the Late Brake Show team for more great content 😍
