It's funny that you mention that the song sounds like it's from 2007 because it came out that one of Jojo's unreleased songs was written by someone else and then bought. Once people found that out people started speculating that Karma was also bought, which it is as on Spotify Jojo may be listed as the main artist but not the lyricist/composer. But you know who is? Antonina Armato, who had written Miley Cyrus's songs in the past during, from what I could find, 2007-2010. And you know who Jojo kept comparing her rebrand to? Yeah, Miley Cyrus! So it may just have been a canned Miley song that they took from the vault, and that's who Jojo/her team wanted to imitate for this rebrand.
