I'm not Latinx, I'm a Spaniard and as a descendant of colonialism it really ain't my place to tell people what they are. However, I can tell you how she's generally seen here (as a celebrity, I mean). Among Spaniards Jlo has never been perceived as a Latin American singer. Sure, she's Latina but she's American, as in a US citizen first and foremost and the songs that made her famous here are in English, not Spanish. So it kinda surprises me that there is this situation going on. Latin Americans in Spain don't care about her either so most of us grew up thinking she was just another random US pop star.

I feel that is common because she's technically a usa citizen so she'll appeal to people who she's culturally similar to. Unlike someone like Shakira who actually did grow in colombia. Shakira is more legendary than jlo to, I'm not even from Latin America, but I'm from the caribbean. Even caribbean artistes that grow up in usa don't really appeal to a caribbean audience. Nicki Minaj for example, Trinidadian but even if she reps the caribbean, yes she is a legend, but we have support for other caribbean artistes who rep our culture better becuase they actually grow up in the caribbean.

This is such a transparent reversal. Celebrities need these businesses because their lifestyles are expensive - jets, private security, entourages, hair/make-up, styling, private school plus all the extra life/home costs for their multiple mansions. It is a different living beyond your means because their lifestyle is just not sustainable. They need us to fund it by buying their inauthentic products that most do no actual work on. I’ve heard her natural voice, it’s cute. It’s not strong, but could be better with a vocal coach. I think a reason why we tolerated her for so long is because when she first came out, she was one of the few Latinas in mainstream. However, I can tell you how she's generally seen here (as a celebrity, I mean). Among Spaniards Jlo has never been perceived as a Latin American singer. Sure, she's Latina but she's American, as in a US citizen first and foremost and the songs that made her famous here are in English, not Spanish. So it kinda surprises me that there is this situation going on. Latin Americans in Spain don't care about her either so most of us grew up thinking she was just another random US pop star.

Nicki Minaj for example, Trinidadian but even if she reps the caribbean, yes she is a legend, but we have support for other caribbean artistes who rep our culture better becuase they actually grow up in the caribbean.
