  • It's hard to find anything new in builds that hasn't been done dozens of times, but I've never seen anyone embed magnets to prevent bits from rolling off a work surface before, and that's something that you can use in other situations too. Nice build overall, extra kudos for the magnet trick.

  • Love your work. I came here to KZhead today to find a solution to my sad and sorry vertical drill press that was a hand-me-down from my deceased dad. I'm going to SO enjoy making this and give new life to his press.

  • Yep. I find this super useful. This is on my list. I have a floor model drill press. It’s old and has some issues. I’ve been “storing” it for a friend for about 10 years now. I’ve wanted to switch to a small counter model like yours. Tomorrow my friend is bring me hers and this is what I plan to do. This may end up being my first cabinet build for the shop. I can already see how great it will be to get all my bits in one place. I laughed when you talked about having to get your box of bits out, open it and then go back to the drill. I only laugh because that’s pretty much what I do and I get annoyed. LOL. That plan bundle is looking better and better.

  • I think my favorite feature is the table extension. I really like the amount of detail you have added which is the lament edge and surface of the plywood, and an adjustable metal bar for making straight drills and making sure the piece of wood will not go anywhere. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Especially for me since I am just beginning my DIY journey

I love the dust collection addition, but I am thinking about attaching the strap to the block with a t-nut that can be positioned in the t-track. No extra hole in the table and the position can be moved to either track.

  • Very nice job - not only a good presentation for drill press, your building techniques are really down to earth and effective and your presentation is easy to follow. And you don’t waste a lot of time but you explain things as you go along. There was a lot of little things in here that can be taken from this and applied to other things in the shop. All in all, an excellent presentation and and a very nice looking and well thought out project.

  • This is awesome. I love your design for every part. The magnets are a stroke of genius. Easily the best part. I built a similar table a couple of years ago using melamine which didn't hold up as well as I had hoped. I used an 80/20 extrusion for a fence too. Best decision. Now I think I need to rebuilt it and definitely add the magnets. Awesome project 🍻

  • This press has worked like a charm for my projects kzhead.infoUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

  • Great design with some helpful details I’ve never seen before! On dust collection, I’ve found putting the hose as close as possible to the bit gets nearly everything, even with a Forstner bit.

    @lucasjw@lucasjw2 жыл бұрын
    • That's the key. I've also tried using my 4" hose, but it's just too intrusive and can get in the way of operating the drill press

      @MWAWoodworks@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
    • Try adding a step down adapter from 4" to 2" which will increase the velocity as it tries to maintain airflow. While you're down to that diameter, consider adding on one of the flexible semi-rigid hoses that hold shape and position to manage the perfect position close to the bit and stock.

In Australia we are very limited on quality ply with out spending a fortune. I have already spent over $340 on materials and thats not even using premium ply. I will do a video etc for Aussies with metric conversions and explaining about rubbish wood. Where do you get your wood from. What are your major outlets like.

  • Some really awesome suggestions! Love your solution for holding the vac hose. I made a very similar drill press table by laminating 3 pieces of 1/2 baltic birch plywood, complete with track runners for hold downs and a homemade fence. I cut a rectangular hole in the top layer thinking it'd be easy to make replaceable inserts. It turned out pretty well and I made a bunch of inserts. Only problem is -- I NEVER have to replace them because I still use a scrap pieces on top of the table when drilling holes. lol

    @philshock3805@philshock38052 жыл бұрын
    • 😂😄😂😂 I used to have a table with rectangle inserts and I never changed them because it was a pain to pop them out. I'm hoping this way just rotating it is simple and I'll actually do it.

      @MWAWoodworks@MWAWoodworks2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MWAWoodworks Lol Would love to hear how the circle works for you in the long run -- agree spinning would be easier. Mine are easy to flip around or swap out, I just can't get past the idea that a single hole is going to require more effort (minimal as it may be), and add another step the next time I have to drill something. Definitely a mental obstacle and sounds silly but I've found it's too easy to keep a piece of MDF on the table and freely move it around. John Heinz has a video where he made a new drill press table sans replaceable inserts for the exact same reasons. Mentally, I went ... YES! haha At any rate, keep up the fantastic work ... appreciate the heck out of you!

    • Question, first Thanks for the reply, I saw in this video you had a ship fox drill press and then in another video that I watched that is close in time you have what looks to be a Nova Viking, if that correct? Why the change and would you recommend either one?

      @Vinnie45acp@Vinnie45acp3 ай бұрын
    • Yeah I upgraded my drill press shortly after that video. I like the Viking because it has a dial to change speeds among lots of other features like a direct drive motor (no pullies to change) I never changed the speed of my drill press because it's a pain in the butt on almost all benchtop drill presses. Also my shop fox became very rumbly and became hard to cut precise holes. Mind you this was after 10 years of use. The Viking is expensive so it really just depends on how much you use a drill press and for what purpose (wood/metal/acrylic)

  • Did I miss how you mounted the press to the stand? I'm assuming just some bolts though the bottom of the press into the top of the stand?

  • I really admire your ingenuity, in designing some of these accessories, and I like the look of your drill press stand. Could you tell us the overall dimensions please? I need storage space, and am trying to get the max possible storage out of each shop project. I understand that plans could be modified, but too much modification might destroy the clean look. I’m trying to gauge whether I these plans would work for me without too many alterations. I was hoping for something around 26-27 inches wide by about 23 inches deep - and I should add, at least some of that is due to the concern about tipping over sideways. So many drill press stands are extremely narrow! Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks!

  • That was bad ass and a pleasure to watch. favorite feature was the magnets. Nowhere near as talented as you but I'm going to steal as much of this as I can manage when I get a drill press!

  • That's going next level...then taking it up a notch. The only thing I can possibly think of is adding a sanding drum to give your drill press that capability.
