  • This press has worked like a charm for my projects kzhead.infoUgkxajoEbapTfqWaadnqb04h6U576yxXp-FE . I didn't even secure it to my table top, mainly due to the fact that I was using a 15 lbs drill vise. It's not flimsy at all as to what others have claimed it to be. Make sure the locking nuts and levers are secured and there won't be any issues with light pressure and patience. I was able to drill through aluminum, plastic, and steel (steel took a while) with no problems at all. Yeah it took a little longer than a regular drill press, but I don't have the space OR the money for one.The instruction manual was worthless, but luckily assembling the press was intuitive. However, the manual would be good for ordering replacement parts if needed. There is a nice breakdown of the parts that are included in the kit. Before ordering, make sure it is compatible with your unit, it is clearly stated what models the press is compatible with.This was an excellent purchase for $40!!

  • Clamp idea was very cool. I may try that myself. Centre drilling is cool too. Have to be careful the chuck on the bottom can't slide out of alignment, though. You don't need the sides for the multifunction table if you have clamps for the t-track.

  • Plate of your drill press have place for the vise. You can just use vise or clamp it to the plate. Moreover adding pressure between top of the drill and the plate you can bend the axis of the plate and drilled hole won't be perpendicular. And last but not least - if your drill bit stuck in material (like thin sheet of metal) it not only start spinning, but also your "improvised vise" will fly away. You have to build a fence on the plate and screw it to the plate if you want to be safe or use regular vise

    • let's address your made up mental concerns 1. YOU CAN JUST USE A VICE. unless you have a milling vice, which is very expensive, you are not going to get the easy adjustability you get with his jig, nor will any vice be able to fit the range of sizes of piece you can use with his setup. so no, a vice doesnt solve many of the problems this jig solves 2. USING THE REVERSE CLAMP TO PUT PRESSURE ON THE PIECE CAN BEND THE AXIS OF THE PLATE. seriously? the whole press is built to handle some pretty extreme pressure you can put on that plate in normal operations by just pushing on the handle. moreover, did you happen to notice the point where the reverse clamp contacts the plate is much closer to the "axis" you are worried about than the drill head? which means there is quite a bit less leverage on the axis at that point than there is from the drill head. more-moreover, the clamp he is using is a squeeze type of clamp with quick-release that generates very little clamping force compared with screw type clamps. you see all that and you still imagine a problem in your head about 'bending the axis', and like all people who imagine problems you then believe your imagination instead of reality 3. THE FENCE SHOULD BE ANCHORED TO THE PLATE INSTEAD OF TO THE MULTI-FUNCTION TABLE BECAUSE IF A DRILL BIT BINDS THE WHOLE MULTI-FUNCTION TABLE AND THE FENCE WILL START SPINNING. please correct me if i have misunderstood what you are worried about here. cuz if i do understand what you are saying, this is the most nuts of your nutty points. here's a question for you. if you anchor your benchtop press securely to a heavy work table, which is bolted to the floor, and you bolt a vise to the plate and the bit binds, what will stop your whole house from spinning? that's a serious question. maybe you cant state the physics of it exactly but you would understand it intuitively. and still you're thinking a fence clamped to a wooden multifunction table, which has a good bit of mass, is going to start spinning like a little piece of sheet metal when a bit gets stuck in it. moreover, did you notice the multi-function table has a skirt that fits around the plate, which would prevent the table or fence from spinning? but of course, none of this will prevent the earth from spinning if a bit gets stuck. and if you believe that, boy do i have a good story for you about climate change

      @rb-ex@rb-ex6 ай бұрын
    • Have you ever heard of drill press tables?? They are use buy not only carpenters but machinist to. You are talking about drilling into the plate itself? Because that is what you typed in. There are slots in the plate designed for such things other than a drill press vise. He is showing ideas you can make on a budget. Some people can not afford fancy machinist vises, so ease up on the criticisms.

    @akaULF@akaULF Жыл бұрын
    • А в чем разница? В подавляющем большинстве устройств резец движется, а деталь неподвижна (сверлилки, циркулярки, фрезеры, рубанки, фуговальные и т д - все, кроме токарного)

      @akrivobo@akrivobo Жыл бұрын
    • @@akrivobo , пока не попробуете не поймёте. А если про теорию, то деталь будет крутиться вдоль своей оси и сверло просто не сможет промазать мимо центра. Даже на обычной дрели это работает, если сверло зажать в тиски, а дрелью вращать шпильку. Формально даже кернить не придётся. Но если надо накернить ровно в центр, то на торце вращающейся шпильки, надо маркером вести от края к середине, пока не останется самая маленькая незакрашенная точка.
