    • @iatealready I'm sure most people won't want to be bothered with doing it themselves. It takes time, effort and patience to do it yourself and it's often easier just to pop in or drop off the vehicle and have someone else do it all while you're at work, etc. But for those of us who are struggling financially this is a life saver.

Makes me feel better to know so many of you actually have curb rash just like me and now I don't think I can be bothered fixing it because I will only cry if I go to so much trouble, do a great job and then curb 'em again soon after!

  • I got a "rash" on a new Explorer ST and the new wheel would be $1200.00 bucks at my dealer. Ford dealer service advisor told me he had a service that could fix the wheel, but I did not believe it. He said I would never know the difference. He was right...and I could not figure out how he did it. This explains what the Ford dealer did, and I feel great understanding it now. Great video. This is why KZhead is the best website out there.

    • What a great find! Wish I had run into someone like that when my TT careened down a long, steep, snowy hill a couple months after I got it. I ended up buying snow tires of course to protect the remainder of the car and occupants but it was a horse out of the locked barn as far as the rims were concerned. Since this info/service was unavailable at the time, I painted the rims Alizarin Crimson (as in the song by Donovan Leitch ca. 1968) with the caps a very bright yellow. Blue first gen Audi TT (no air dam) so it was a truly primary clown car. I was pissed until I liked it. But it cost a small fortune when the lease was up. What an uncomfortable car.

  • People laugh when they see playing cards in my mechanic and bodywork toolboxes, as if I plan of wasting time on the job by playing cards. I used them for masking bodywork, and also for things like getting the nasty grit sitting on a ring out from between a piston and the cylinder wall if I'm doing a head. Also pretty good for cleaning out dried buffing compound from between a fascia and a body panel. In a pinch I've used them as precise body filler spreaders and also as spacers when I'm putting a fascia back on. Pretty good and cheap tool.

  • This looks like a legit repaire I have always question grinding the corners of the rim. I was actually going to get someone to do it for me but then i researched about the safety of it. This looks pretty good considering you have not made any modification to the design of the rim

    @edwardarakelian8315@edwardarakelian83154 жыл бұрын
    • This was ok. I have done thousands of wheel repairs. First: don’t use filler on edge of rim, it will break apart either by hitting a pot hole, or when having to remove and replace tire, the pressure will blow the filler off. Second, easier to just take the wheel off the car, then no taping lug bolts or trying to mask off the brake caliper and rotor. Third, clear coat in a can?!? Crap! Buy a cheap gun and spray proper clear coat. Lastly, I hardly ever, 1%, use filler. If you have a small grinder, use 3M Roloc 3” discs, the red ones, and grind the damage out, will have to fan out wider, then follow with 3” 220 sandpaper with a small sander, then 3” 400 sandpaper to feather out. I prefer the red 3M scuff pads versus the gray for wheels, the red are more aggressive. I also will use a wax n grease removal with the scuffing, this really gets the wheel clean of contaminants.

    • Some people are picky about these things. Kind of like going to sleep with a clean face but then waking up with acne in the morning. I'm sure most would hate that. This is similar when you become more in tune with your car and it's image.

      @MacMac1313@MacMac13135 жыл бұрын
    • Removing curb rash definitely helps with resale value. Bumps and scrapes says a fair bit about how the car was treated. So taking the time to do this could be the difference between getting your asking price or not.

  • Thanks a lot, man! I did this to the rims of my 2010 vw cc which I just bought with onlu 50k on it, but the rims were scratched and dinged worse than yours. The only thing I modified is I just went ahead and scuffed the entire rim with sandpaper 120 after I sanded the bondo filler. The scotchbrite is not enough to get some foothold for the primer. I also did not use the primer filler because it left uneven areas and I did not want to sand it again, so I used a regular primer for metal (epoxy primer). Other than those, they came out perfect for me. Of course, some areas I over sprayed with both paint and clear coat. I tried to follow your advice to start with light sprays first...but I got overzealous.
