The Venturi Gas burners are constructions that mix the gas with the air before their burning. These burners are used in many metallurgy's tools like the ovens for melting metals or blacksmithing ovens as well as are used for many other functions.

  • I found that when I built a Venturi and used a welding tip for my gas nozzle it helped the performance of the flame quite significantly to trim the welding tip down shorter because the long distance that the gas has to go through the small hole slows down the gas flow. If it only passes through a small space for a short period the gas is still quite fast coming out the other side which draws in more air and makes a bigger flame.

  • Really nice work. I actually make these a lot (I sell forges). You can experiment with different jet sizes to get different results. I usually use .6mm or .5mm. You also don't need a flare at the end as when it's installed in the forge, it becomes redundant. None of my burners have a flared end and they work great. They don't look as awesome as yours though :-)

      @thomaslindroos1667@thomaslindroos16672 жыл бұрын
    • @@thomaslindroos1667 No, the venturi is at the other end, where the gas jet is. The high pressure gas draws in air for combustion, via the "venturi effect". The flare I'm talking about is at the other end, where the flame comes out. You put flares there to stabilise the flame so it will stay lit. I'm saying that when the burner is in the forge, the insulation does the same job, so putting a flare there is unnecessary.

  • Nice! My hard-learned lesson with burners is that flame doesn't behave the same in closed space (for example forge) as when testing in the open air. What seems like stable gas and flame nozzle setting in the open air can be unstable in forge.

    @Tachikomaster@Tachikomaster2 жыл бұрын
    • This is when you adjust the mix. Making a forge is easy. You just need fuel and air. My forge was just a propane tank and hose with a pipe inside and a fan attached to said pipe. Turn gas on and light and then turn fan on and adjust. It was very simple and works very well.

    @GSC-Operator-chan@GSC-Operator-chan2 жыл бұрын
    • It would be best to put one right before the burner, but that may have been extremely difficult/impractical. He may have put one after a short run of the rubber hose, but his demonstration was a very short run with looks being very important, so it may have not been running a flashback arrestor because it would make the burner "ugly". Either way, it's good that you mentioned flashback arrestors, because anybody looking to make a burner should be well aware of the dangers and safety devices to mitigate those dangers.

  • So much efforts to make such a simple thing... I have a diy forge with 2 burners. Both burners are made from plumbing stuff, bought in a nearest shop. Basically, they consist of a piece of steel pipe ,t-shape threaded end and a MIG burner tip. Made with angle grinder, drill, MMA welder and hand taps. No lathe, no milling machine, no innox steel. But works and performs at least as good as this one. At least im forge-welding with them totally fine.

      @JThyroid@JThyroid2 жыл бұрын
    • Time to make a cheat sheet :) I have been running CNC lathes for about 14 years, picked up a few tricks on the way. I doubt the knurling can be just as nice as from the CNC lathe, but getting the technique right should help a lot. And just like when cutting threads it is possible to run the tool over it multiple times, just do it exactly like if you were cutting a thread.

    @TheMadJoker87@TheMadJoker872 жыл бұрын
    • The heat from the forge does not rise up the tube as there is high pressure air and gas being pushed down it. If you had two burners and only lit one, then that might be an issue as the unlit burner would act like a chimney.
