  • Carly is good for European models, but not much else. I use it mostly on BMW and VW, however it cost you a yearly subscription (about AUD 368) to keep it operating because, unlike a normal scanner, they have you by the nuts because it needs your phone to operate. If you do not pay the subscription, your phone no longer hooks into the carly system. It is a great tool if you are using it all the time, but pretty costly to keep the subscription going if you only use it occasionally.

Someone spent at least $10k on servicing though, so maybe that was the breaking point or maybe it was a few owners ago. But sometimes rich people don't give AF. They just drive shit into the ground and then dump it, moving onto the next fun ride. I used to know a Rolls Royce owner (now deceased) who stuck his damn gum on the dash before going into a restaurant for lunch.

Cold fluid level when idling should be around 22mm on the ziptie, hot level should be around 65 to 70mm when fluid is at 160-170 degrees. I replace the conductor plate on my Mopar NAG1 trans(M-B issue)at each service, not that expensive and is cheap insurance. Good score, Sam!

I always wanted a C32, but nothing makes me as excited about Mercedes as an E55 or E63, E430 or E300 estate. I love the supercharger and I had a few different Kompressor models, but that 55 engine...!!!

Although I didn't know much of anything about the car other than motor is hand built and it has 500 horse power. I learned a lot and most of all that its within my reach if I look at something besides Craig's list.

  • Regarding missing trans fluid, check TCU connector. Fluid can leak and travel up that connection. Also, I would check the condition of coolant. Trans fluid/coolant mixing is a big issue in this era of Mercs. If coolant looks brownish change radiator asap. It's a very expensive issue if not addressed. If there's ever an AMG you can abuse and still get away with it's this one. No way an M156 or M157 car would be worth fixing if it was neglected this badly.

  • The old mercedes conductor plate is definitely an issue but you definitely have to replace the seals as well especially the one around the harness connector the guide bush. This is sealed inside the conductor plate around the main harness connector that goes out the transmission casing by O-rings. I seen many shops disregarding this and overtime destroys that harness and even TCU. It definitely a big issue with these, as the fluid works past the wiring harness as seal goes bad and worst seen it works it way though the wires the harness and into transmission computer. Also valve body in those transmissions need overhaul as very problematic and will cause erratic shifting and popping no out of gear, or not going into gear. I repaired and rebuild a few of those transmissions over the years. That AMG E55 is a great car and one of my favorite once you work though issues is a reliable one and worth getting sorted even if you end up having to replace, or rebuild transmission.

  • Hey fella! I love your channel, I recently found it and have watched pretty much every single video! It's SO good! :) I really hope you reconsider working with Carly - if you find that it doesn't work properly with your car, it's tough, you can't get a refund. They try and get around it by saying the scanner is 'free', but the software is completely non-refundable. I used it on my Audi, and a lot of the programming functions didn't work.. I sent it back, and now they are arguing the refund with me. We have quite good consumer laws in the UK, however I know not all the countries will have these. Not to mention the fact they will automatically charge your card after a year to 'renew' the software licence, unless you contact them. I wish more KZhead folk like yourself would look at all the reviews about Carly and how they operate before working with them.

    • Hey there. I can understand your frustration if it didn't work for you, but I've been using it since 2020. It has always been my go to for VW/Audi and BMW cars. Since they have expanded compatibility I've used it on this and a few other MB cars. I have a few different code readers that do full function but every single one of them is at the very least $600+. For the price Carly is really good but that's why I always direct everyone to their site to check their make and model and look at compatibility. Every code reader is different but the bottom line here, you'll save way more just diagnosing your car vs going to the dealer and having them do it.

  • With the 'overboost' smaller top pulley you need to be very sure the injectors installed are big enough to give the sufficient fuel supply with the extra incoming air, at higher rpm WOT. The two rearmost cylinders are very sensitive to 'leaning-out' and overheating, scoring, even seizing! It's a fairly delicate beast here. Is the smaller top pulley still 'clutch-equipped' so that it can 'freewheel' like the stock one, on light throttle? (better gas, reduces belt slip and whip issues) So is there a 'belt-wrap' mod fitted so that the SC belt doesn't 'whip' and depart from the pulleys on the over-run, or 'slip' under sudden WOT boosting?? There was a small Porsche specialist Swiss chip tuning company 'Sportec' that used to put out a power kit for the AMG55, with a different sized lower pulley (yes, 'lower' pulley) AND a new engine management board..! The stock 2003 AMG55 actually produced 530hp (but only 469hp was claimed) but after a few early breakages the 2004 models were detuned back closer to the claimed output allegedly. First release road review journalists were regularly breaking, within 30 minutes, the stock 2003 engines on test tracks!! (usually the rear two cylinders!)

I been a Mercedes owner for over 15 years from a CLK500 to a GLE400 and the E55. I replaced the conductor plate on my old CLK500 and I'm about to do it on the E55 the good news is no programing on that transmission. Like the 7 speed the conductor plate need to be programed. When doing a conductor plate make sure you get the connector adapter plug w/o-ring, new trans pan bolts and trans filter.
