  • Awesome job. I’ve been looking at the many examples of these and this one combines a) simple to make b) very versatile c) no super fancy tools required. I’ll make mine modelled on this with a few variable spaced slots. Cheers

    • Murray…agreed. I’m going to make one with 4” angle so I can bend 3” flanges on caps. This build is genius. It will save us all thousands on a new finger brake.

  • It looks great and seems pretty cost effective but personally i would have used used thicker stock across the top and done away with the bracing just so i could have more room above for more longer intricate bends. Also would have knocked out a few slots at the end and drilled out long slots for some sliding adjustable teeth just so i could adjust it to the size i needed. Still though great build.👍

  • Like the idea of the bending slots, however I would have one of the end two spaces notched with 1", 1/2" & 1/ 4" spacing as well to make those odd size box bends

  • Pretty impressive! I'd have turned the welder down a tiny bit for those thinner pcs for the handle uprights, as I saw the holes burned into them. Other than that, pretty good. Would've liked some dimensions, as it would make it so much easier to do, though. 😕 (Edited to say I wished for dimensions)

  • I love how simple this build is. I do have one question though. Most of the videos I've watched on how to build a sheet metal brake require cutting a notch in the angle iron for the hinges. How are you able to get away from doing that and how does it not affect the way the sheet metal is bent? I'd love to hear from you. Have a great day! 😎

    • Thanks for appreciating. Mostly people used capsules hinges pin that pin hinges required notches in angle iron on the other hand i used simple door hinges that’s why no need of cutting notes in the angle iron. Now I’m making a sand blasting cabinet which about to done. I’m bending 16 gauge sheet metal with this bender. You can watch details bending in my next project. Thank you

  • Nice idea! Why not vary the slot spacing? You should be able to come up with a pattern that gives you at least 1/4” increments?

  • Groove it out were the hinges go and turn them over so the axis is centered, you will get tighter bends that way. the hinges the way they are now swing out when you make a beak. But still nice job.

  • Love these and all. Its wonderful to make things like this. But realistically if I had a welder, a chop saw and bought all the steel to make this... Not to mention a big steel table to dedicate it to, I could probably just go down to harbor freight and afford to buy a brake for 150 bucks. I suppose it would depend on your situation. Nothing against it and I really love the video.

    • 36" box is the biggest HF carries and it's $300 before any coupons. A 48" from other sources is $1,000 minimum on the low end.

  • It must be good when you order metal you get the thickness you want. Here in Ghana everything on the cheap, box section 1mm thick, angle 2mm. Getting 3-4-5-6mm is out of the question.
